A wonderful comfortable home in the jungles near Lake Arenal, Costa Rica. Perfect for relaxing, bird watching, internet working, writing, or spending time with friends.
The home is off the beaten path, yet just 2 kilometers from shopping, restaurants, bars and the lake side park. The road is a bit rough so there are few cars and almost no noise on the property. You will hear birds, monkeys, chickens and wind chimes.
You may roam freely the acres of plants, bananas, papayas, oranges, lemons, yucca, flowers and regenerating forests which are everywhere. The property is surrounded by very large tracks of both pasture and open space for trekking.
The house has DSL wireless internet, a full kitchen dining living room combo, 2 bedrooms, bath with hot water on demand shower and of course american style washing machine and dryer.
This is a perfect retreat for someone working on their computer who wishes to be alone. Or someone who has purchased property in the area and is building a new home. Our guests also use this as a base to explore Arenal Volcano, Tenorio, Monteverde and other touristic destinations. No kids or pets without prior approval. We love both so do ask.
The farm has a full time gardener and you will be treated to fresh fruits in season. The owner or gardener live on the property and provide information, security and maintain the grounds and patios. Maid service is included and can be arranged by appointment one to two times per week.
We are near Lake Arenal, Costa Rica and one hour drive to La Fortuna. The town is called Nuevo Arenal not to be confused with la Fortuna.

I enjoy very must the david's cabinas. It's very nice place in the tropical forest. David is a good men who helped us for anything and he liked speaking with the hosts. I passed goods times with him and his friends. I recommended this place because it's very nice place, the home is very good for all things and david it's very sympathic.
Davids hideaway was wonderful! The house was new, very clean and very spacious. It also was very artistic; the wall murals were amazing, the woodwork inside was rich and beautiful and the view from the shower was unsurpassed. Our possessions were very safe in the walk-in vault. We spent a lot of our time on the back patio (which had just been beautifully tiled) watching the abundant and incredible bird and monkey life. The Howler's were always nearby during our entire one week stay and were such a joy.
We daily strolled the well-tended grounds with all the different trees and flowering shrubs. A favorite view of mine was from the far corner of the property, looking down and over a pasture that had a stream meandering through its rocky course.
With all this said, the best part of our experience was David, himself. He was a wonderful, friendly, generous and very helpful host who made us feel at home and welcomed us into his Arenal life. He volunteered to drive us into town anytime, invited us to sit and have a beer with his friends at the local hangout and we even got to do a little drumming at his monthly drumming gathering the last night we were there.
We had a great time, thanks for everything!
We arrived at dusk, very tired after a long travel day, in the town of Nuevo Arenal, with no address or other instructions other than to go to the gas station. When we got through to David (via his gardener, as he did not answer his phone), he showed up having been drinking, with a beer in hand. There isn't anything wrong with a drink but since we were then dependent on him to drive us to the property, this was a bit uncomfortable.
Then he insisted we eat in town with him. When we ordered at the wrong place (where we'd been taken to by him, apparently we were just meant to have a drink there), although we hadn't been told this, we were then hustled off as soon as we'd finished. To be fair we did all go to the supermarket together which was helpful. There were several off-color jokes and comments made during this time which would offend the sensitive.
David also informed us in the first half hour after arrival that he was leaving the next morning for an unknown amount of time, luckily we did not need assistance for rest of our stay as the house is very isolated.
We do not wish to be negative but feel it is important for the review to show this.
The house is a lovely big open plan space, good shower and Internet, and has a decent bed. The garden is full of beautiful trees, and we were visited by monkeys and toucans and many other birds and animals every day! The two dogs are also lovely. Nearly new, top condition fridge, washer and dryer and nice soaps and such were a nice touch.
The house is advertised as having a full kitchen but does not have a working oven nor any extras like a microwave. The gas level on the stove is very weak, and only two burners work. The kitchen is completely useable though, with a useful assortment of dishes and utensils as well.
The house is also full of windows which is great for wildlife viewing and the sunlight, but there is no privacy, especially in the bathroom. We did have a very tranquil stay, although this may be due to being almost completely on our own the entire time.
David is a very nice man who is new to the Airbnb network. His place needs a few things.
1. David does not mention that he has dogs that live outside on the property and will bark all night long. This IS NOT relaxing in any way or does it help to enjoy the space.
2. Owners should live in their units before they rent them as this unit is very basic and could use a few items. It could use sheets that actually fit the bed and do not fall off during the night. If you are going to enjoy the wonderful coffee from this region you will need a kettle or some other pot to boil water. We had 2 pots, 2 pans and could not really use them all as the stove only had 2 of 6 burners working.
3. When it rains the tree on the side of the unit will release large branches that hit the tin roof in a very loud BANG, that will make you jump out of your skin. Also the ran noise is very loud on that part of the unit because David said he has not finished the unit yet.
We know that this is Costa Rica and these things are bound to happen, just be ready for them.
The Dog issue, well that is for you to decide. Owners should tell their renters that dogs are present and that they do not live with the Owner, but outside. I have my own dogs and would not think of having them out barking all night long.
We really enjoyed our stay at David's "jungle hideaway"! The place was really awesome, you can see all those colorful birds from your window. House has all the creature comforts one needs - large kitchen, shower with hot water, WiFi internet and even a hot tub! David is a great guy! He was very hospitable and helped us in every possible way. Also he has been staying in Costa Rica for 15 years and gave us many helpful tips about the nearby places. Next time I come back to the wonderful lake of Arenal I would definitely stay at David's hideaway!
We stayed four nights on Davids nice place and had a realy good time there. The house is very lovely located in the middle of a big garden. The house has everything tou need for a pleasent stay.
David is a very funny and nice host and was very open and helpful. Nuevo Arenal is a great place to stay - a little nice village with everything you need (supermarket, nice restaurants, gas station and on top a great bakery) and its perfect located to visit Vulcano Arenal as well as Vulcano Tunorio (very much to recommend).
Thanks a lot David for the nice time we had. It was a pleasure to stay!
