About this listing
Cabinas Colibri is a privately owned Inn made up of a main house and two cabins. The main house is where our on sight host resides and oversees the property and the needs and comfort of our guests.
Each cabina has the following: two bedrooms, a bathroom with a large, tiled shower, a kitchen and a living area. With locally made ceramic tiles and high ceilings, the cabins remain airy and cool, even on the warmest of days. The furniture is all locally hand crafted.
The cabins comfortably sleep four people. For each additional person, there is an additional charge. See the Rates section for details.
The cabins overlook a lush landscape of local trees and flowering plants. It is impossible not to delight in the many birds that visit the property. Guests can also hear the distinct sound of howler monkeys nearby.
Cabinas Colibri has been described as a sanctuary by many who have stayed there. The cabins and the main house are connected by an ornate privacy wall which surrounds a courtyard that is filled with local, flowering vegetation. Whether relaxing in this home away from home or enjoying the sights, sounds and great food of Costa Rica, guests can relax in the privacy and security of their lodging.
The Beaches… they are simply exquisite, with amazing waves for surfers of all levels
World class sport fishing
Stand Up Paddleboarding
Please mention AIRBNB when booking.
The front house is visible from the main road in Playa Negra. The grounds are meticuolosly maintained
Our trip here was nice- the cabina was bigger than expected- so that was a pleasant surprise. We really loved the area- though the beach is definitely more geared towards surfing than swimming with the riptides. The few shops nearby were cute- all we really needed- Jalopenos restaurant was our favorite- organically grown ingredients and a very fresh healthy menu. The place was kept clean, though certain things needed repair- like the screens- we had a few visitors. We were a little surprised to find out that Trever wasn't actually the person to meet us- which made us a little uncomfortable. He has a property manager named Brian who was very helpful and friendly, we were just surprised to meet him and not Trever. Trever did come by a couple of days after our arrival and was also very helpful and friendly. He had offered to pick us up from the bus stop and found us a taxi to Santa Cruz for an early departure. Overall, I'd recommend Cabinas Colibri- definitely a good space for your money. Area is beautiful.
The cabina was large and in a lovely courtyard in town about a 5-10minute walk to the beach. The on site mgr. Brian was most helpful, and vey knowledgeable about the biodiversity of the area. The amenities are basic and adequate. I stayed a month and loved it!!!
I share the same oponion with the previous reviewers. Just adding a wonderfull mediterian architexture of the cabinas and sorroundings which makes a great compact with the garden and the front house. Recomend this and would come back anytime.
We spent two weeks at cabinas colibri and it was amazing! We thought we were going there in the rainy season but in the area it doesn't fully start before the end of august so everything is fine. Brian was so genuine and helpful as well as providing many advices on the area. Him and the two dogs were very often on the property and very easy to reach.
With plenty of things to do in the area, like fishing, snorkelling, surfing, horseback riding but we would still advise to have a car since public transportation closest stop is at quite a distance and taxi can become expensive. Even a very small car can manage their gravel roads. We had a suzuki alto and never had a problem moving around in the area!
I wish you to enjoy the magnificent sunset like we did at Playa Negra! They are amazing :)
Hola! My husband and I have just returned home after spending 7 weeks at Cabinas Colibri, needless to say, so sad we are not still there. Our stay at the cabinas was awesome! Brian, our "landlord" went out of his way to accommodate our needs and was eager to ensure that our stay was a good one. We rented one of the two cabinas for 7 weeks, the last week, members of our family rented the second one. The cabinas are basic, but comfortable, for us, it suited our needs perfectly! There are two small stores in town that provide basic necessities, for groceries, produce, meats, a trip to Santa Cruz (half an hour drive) enabled us to stay stocked with our food needs. We knew that we didn't want to eat out too much, and preferred to prepare our own meals - the kitchen was sufficiently stocked to ensure that. There are a few small restaurants in town for those that desire to eat out. The beach was about a 15 minute walk away, sunsets were exquisite! Brian was usually on property, but never intrusive. He was always doing yardwork and not he and the "boys" - Bubba and Boo (two friendly, friendly dogs) were too far away if there was a need. We would definitely book here again! The price can't be beat at your own little oasis!
Walking distance from the beautiful beach! The cabin was lovely and spacious! We did a lot of cooking in there, making ourselves at home (also the town is pretty tiny). It is a long ride to Tamarindo, and you'll really want GPS and a 4 wheel drive with heavy duty tires for the gravel road.Trever & Brian were really nice, and super helpful with all our needs.
About the Host, Trever
Im originally from Southern California, and grew up surfing and skateboarding. I have been coming to this part of Costa Rica for the last 5 years and have really fallen in love with the waves and natural beauty of this region. We have a large selection of great waves to surf in this area and we also have one of Costa Rica's only skate parks right here in town. There is great diving and fishing here and I have become an avid spear fisher and free diver. This area is well known for its fresh Snapper, local Lobster and small town vibe. Over the years I have found the best restaurants and the funnest surf possible. I am always happy to share my Costa Rica travel tips with anyone interested in listening. Whether you need to rent a car, find a yoga class, surf a perfect left, or reel in a healthy fish, I can help you with anything in Costa Rica. Don't worry about your budget we can help you enjoy your time in Costa Rica the most cost effective way. I'm a firm believer that "life is what you make it" so make it awesome and visit us in Costa Rica!
