Cabinas Colibri is a privately owned Inn made up of a main house and two cabins. The main house is where our on sight host resides and oversees the property and the needs and comfort of our guests.
Each cabina has the following: two bedrooms, a bathroom with a large, tiled shower, a kitchen and a living area. With locally made ceramic tiles and high ceilings, the cabins remain airy and cool, even on the warmest of days. The furniture is all locally hand crafted.
The cabins comfortably sleep four people. For each additional person, there is an additional charge. See the Rates section for details.
The cabins overlook a lush landscape of local trees and flowering plants. It is impossible not to delight in the many birds that visit the property. Guests can also hear the distinct sound of howler monkeys nearby.
Cabinas Colibri has been described as a sanctuary by many who have stayed there. The cabins and the main house are connected by an ornate privacy wall which surrounds a courtyard that is filled with local, flowering vegetation. Whether relaxing in this home away from home or enjoying the sights, sounds and great food of Costa Rica, guests can relax in the privacy and security of their lodging.

Hola! My husband and I have just returned home after spending 7 weeks at Cabinas Colibri, needless to say, so sad we are not still there. Our stay at the cabinas was awesome! Brian, our "landlord" went out of his way to accommodate our needs and was eager to ensure that our stay was a good one. We rented one of the two cabinas for 7 weeks, the last week, members of our family rented the second one. The cabinas are basic, but comfortable, for us, it suited our needs perfectly! There are two small stores in town that provide basic necessities, for groceries, produce, meats, a trip to Santa Cruz (half an hour drive) enabled us to stay stocked with our food needs. We knew that we didn't want to eat out too much, and preferred to prepare our own meals - the kitchen was sufficiently stocked to ensure that. There are a few small restaurants in town for those that desire to eat out. The beach was about a 15 minute walk away, sunsets were exquisite! Brian was usually on property, but never intrusive. He was always doing yardwork and not he and the "boys" - Bubba and Boo (two friendly, friendly dogs) were too far away if there was a need. We would definitely book here again! The price can't be beat at your own little oasis!
Walking distance from the beautiful beach! The cabin was lovely and spacious! We did a lot of cooking in there, making ourselves at home (also the town is pretty tiny). It is a long ride to Tamarindo, and you'll really want GPS and a 4 wheel drive with heavy duty tires for the gravel road.Trever & Brian were really nice, and super helpful with all our needs.
We had a very pleasant stay at the Cabinas. Our host was very nice and helpful. Playa Negra is one of the most beautiful beaches we found in Costa Rica. The restaurant on the beach has the most delicous ceviche and there is an awesome snorkeling beach not far away. You definitely need a car as everything is in quite a distance and the area is well known for its scorpions, which are nasty but not a real danger. An awesome spot for surfers!
It´s a lovely simple, rustic house in a gorgeous area and very good value for money. Brian is very cheerful and was always willing to help and he has two fantastic dogs! His friend, Mike, runs a local taxi service and was also very helpful in getting me on a bus in Santa Cruz!
There are a few bars and restaurants closeby that are fun and friendly places with good food and drink. The house has good kitchen facilities but there are not really any decent food shops around the local area.
Very nice place to stay, Beautiful, and safe! Brian was very helpful and great to talk to! The area was in the slow season, so there wasnt many places open to eat, but during the high season, this place would be full of life!
If you are searching by map, this property is not in Tamarindo though.
The cabina was clean, cute and cozy, surrounded by a beautiful garden. The property is all fenced so we felt really safe. Our host Brian was extremely nice and helpfull, so was everybody in the little pueblo of Playa Negra! A nice place to spend a few relaxing days away from the crowds of tourists. Great place for surfers too!
We had come to CR to find a place to retire to and needed a hub in the area to stay while we talked to other owners about long-term rentals. We had stayed at other hubs around the country and when we talk about all the places we kept saying that Trever's place was the best. It's centrally located in the city and just a one minute walk to a great restaurant and about a three or four minute walk to the beautiful beach. When we first got to the Cabina, it was not what we expected, but after reflecting we loved it. Thanx Trever
Great find! Really close to some of the nicest beaches near small towns with the friendliest people :)
