The space

Cabinas Colibri is a privately owned Inn made up of a main house and two cabins. The main house is where our on sight host resides and oversees the property and the needs and comfort of our guests.

Each cabina has the following: two bedrooms, a bathroom with a large, tiled shower, a kitchen and a living area. With locally made ceramic tiles and high ceilings, the cabins remain airy and cool, even on the warmest of days. The furniture is all locally hand crafted.

The cabins comfortably sleep four people. For each additional person, there is an additional charge. See the Rates section for details.

The cabins overlook a lush landscape of local trees and flowering plants. It is impossible not to delight in the many birds that visit the property. Guests can also hear the distinct sound of howler monkeys nearby.

Cabinas Colibri has been described as a sanctuary by many who have stayed there. The cabins and the main house are connected by an ornate privacy wall which surrounds a courtyard that is filled with local, flowering vegetation. Whether relaxing in this home away from home or enjoying the sights, sounds and great food of Costa Rica, guests can relax in the privacy and security of their lodging.

Everything you need. I recommend having a car as there are several different beaches within a 15 min drive. A great restaurant at Villa Deevenas is a short walk away. The grounds are neat and there is a locked gate to the courtyard and a locked gate to the cabina. We always felt safe and did not worry about leaving items in the room when we were out. Trever was very knowledgeable about activities in the area.

GREAT communication! Answered all of my questions about the place and Costa Rica in general. It was a small secluded area with a beautiful beach. My favorite part was there weren't too many people there. Very nice hosts. Place is as described.

We stayed at Cabinas Colibri with friends after a beachfront property I tried to book was no longer available. The property was beautiful and secluded, set back slightly from the road, which helped cut down on the road noise. The walk to the beach took 10-15 minutes, which is just about the farthest I'd want to carry a surfboard, but still doable! The price seemed reasonable (about half what we would've payed to stay at a beach-front property) and we liked that we had two separate cabinas for privacy. First, we loved Los Pargos and the location of the cabinas. A small village that seems to mostly cater to tourists, Los Pargos was mostly quiet with only a few shops and restaurants. (Be sure to buy gifts at Lula's and eat every night at Gregorio's up the road in Playa Avellana.) We swam/surfed/boogie boarded at least twice every day. There is a sandy beach that's great for swimming, and a rocky reef where the surf is better (but I'm scared of crashing into the rocks!) Things we might have liked to know before hand: + The cabinas themselves do not offer much privacy, with no bedroom doors or curtains. However, this makes for better airflow and there are ceiling fans in each room. + There are few amenties: no shampoo, no washcloths, no games or frisbees, no beach towels, just one bath towel per person a bar of soap and toilet paper. The kitchen lacked any staples (salt, pepper, oil, paper towel, reusable containers, extra towels). + The well water from the tap is very good for drinking. + Most of the wildlife we saw was in our cabinas, so keep that in mind if you're skittish. Inside: lots and lots of spiders & ants, some giant tailless whipscorpions which nearly gave me a heart attack, 1 scorpion. Outside: lots of adorable lizards, leafcutter ants, howler monkeys, birds, and the pets (cuatro gatitos and friendly dogs boots & bubba) + WiFi signal in the cabinas in very poor. Ocassionally, you can get signal if you stand in the window nearest the main house. That was fine by me - I was thrilled to be non-contactable - but if you're hoping to be online, you'll need to sit outside in the garden. + We got lots of bug bites at night, so bring your bug spray! All in all, it was a great trip and the best birthday I've ever had. I would definitely stay again, and bring two surf boards next time. Thanks Brian and Trever for all your help!

Trever was communicative with us, and the other owner Brian was also kind, communicative and helpful. The cabina is a great place to stay, very clean and cozy. About a 10 minute walk from the beach(which is a very nice beach). Will stay here again. Also this place has water for bathing, whereas quite a few of the neighbors don't have water anymore due to droubt.

My host Brian was extremely helpful and kind. We had long, interesting conversations and I learned a lot from him about Costa Rica and the problems the country faces (drought e.g.)

Im originally from Southern California, and grew up surfing and skateboarding. I have been coming to this part of Costa Rica for the last 5 years and have really fallen in love with the waves and natural beauty of this region. We have a large selection of great waves to surf in this area and we also have one of Costa Rica's only skate parks right here in town. There is great diving and fishing here and I have become an avid spear fisher and free diver. This area is well known for its fresh Snapper, local Lobster and small town vibe. Over the years I have found the best restaurants and the funnest surf possible. I am always happy to share my Costa Rica travel tips with anyone interested in listening. Whether you need to rent a car, find a yoga class, surf a perfect left, or reel in a healthy fish, I can help you with anything in Costa Rica. Don't worry about your budget we can help you enjoy your time in Costa Rica the most cost effective way. I'm a firm believer that "life is what you make it" so make it awesome and visit us in Costa Rica!
