Neighborhood highlights

The Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach on the Mittelmosel is a true monument to the interest of the wine trade on the Mosel. Around 1900, it was the most important wine trade center in the world after French Bordeaux.

It was the heyday of the Mosel wine that was shipped from here worldwide. More than a hundred trading companies had their seat here. They sold their wines in England, Russia and of course the whole of Germany.

The wealth coming from the wine trade quickly became visible in local architecture. Supervised wine merchants and winery owners let prominent architects as the Berlin professor Bruno Möhring build stunning villas in Jugendstil, as well as extensive basement complexes. A complete route through Traben-Trarbach leads past the most beautiful of those villas like the Villa Huesgen built in perfect Jugendstil in 1904 for wine merchant Adolph Huesgen, as well as the one year later commissioned by wine merchant Gustav Breucker completed Villa Breucker with its mix of cube and Jugendstil.

In 1899 also built by Möhring and symbolizing the Art Nouveau period of the city is the Brückentor. This gate marked the first road traffic bridge between Bernkastel and Koblenz. Next door, Richard Feist had to build plans for Möhring hotel Claus Feist in 1903 that would soon get a legendary reputation. There are plenty of elements related to wine, not least the tower. It's modeled to the neck of a sparkling wine bottle, including muselette and cork. As a reminder of the name from the start time, the restaurant of the current hotel Bellevue still bears the name Claus Feist.

"Schieferjuwel" our house is located in a beautiful youth style villa.
