Our homey, bright flat in Bandra is the perfect place to settle down after a day exploring crazy Mumbai!

The Space

We live in a bright, airy flat in Bandra. We're also experienced hosts- while living in London, we rented our spare room to more than 20 guests and had a great time meeting many people from around the world during their travels! Now we'd like to show you why we love Mumbai!

The private room we have available for guest(s) is just off the living room, with a large window and curtains. There is one 4 ft x 6 ft bed perfect for one, or comfortable for a couple.

In the room there are plenty of shelves to store clothes, toiletries, luggage and other items, and also space to hang some things.

The apartment has one toilet and shower (separate from each other) that we will share. You'll also, of course, have access to our living room, TV, WiFi, and kitchen.

There is no air conditioning in the room, but there is an overhead fan and two in the living room. The guest room has large sliding windows along one side, so you're able to get a nice breeze (and a a nice view of the area!) Separating the room from the living room is a curtain, but the space is very private and in a good position in the apartment (see floor plan in photos.)

We do have a maid who visits Monday to Friday to clean and do laundry. She will also clean your room/make the bed, but if you'd rather her not, you can let us know. If you have laundry, you may also have it done.

We are an American/English couple who have been living in Mumbai since January 2013 and plan to be here for at least two years. We love the city, and Steph works for a local city tour operator so will have plenty of recommendations for how to best enjoy the city (we also have a few guidebooks on hand that you're welcome to use), and you may even be able to participate in a tour for free.

Any questions, feel free to contact us!

Guest Access

Guests have access to our living room, kitchen, and bathroom. We provide towels, and you're welcome to share our toiletries. There's also space in the shower and in our bathroom shelves to store any items you may bring. Breakfast is not provided, but you're welcome to use any of our appliances and of course, our coffee pot! We also have WiFi, and have been told it's great for India. ;)

Interaction with Guests

Mumbai's a crazy city so we like to help guests out as much as possible. That said, both of us are usually pretty busy with work. When we're around, we love to hang out and/or have dinner with our guests, but sometimes it's just not possible due to our, or our guests schedules. However, we work for a social tour operator/NGO so consider ourselves experts in making the most of your time in Mumbai and are happy to give recommendations! Also, most guests choose to go on Steph's company's Dharavi tour, which we can offer free of charge provided you're willing to fill out a 10-minute feedback survey.

The Neighborhood

Bandra is one of the best areas in Mumbai, and more specifically, Mount Mary is lovely! We love living here as it has a nice neighborhood-y feel and relative quiet compared to other parts of the city. It's also very convenient; there are a number of shops below where you can get food, snacks, toiletries, etc. and there are always rickshaws and taxis just outside our doorstep!

Getting around

Our apartment is about a 10 minute rickshaw ride to Bandra Station (Rs. 10 in the sharing rickshaws right outside our door!) and very close to many restaurants, cafes, and bars in the area. We're also a 10 minute walk from the sea, and there's a nice promenade to walk along.

To/from the airport takes about half and hour and costs around Rs. 200-300 in a taxi, or a bit less in a rickshaw.

  • Stroke of luck finding steph and petes place on airbnb - went out of their way to help us in a challenging situation, and to plan our further travels! Thanks guys! Apartment was in a great location - bandra is a step away from the craziness of colaba, but the area has plenty of things to see
Their role in reality tours/reality gives means that they know the city well - would love the chance to check out the tour of dharavi next time
Couldnt have asked for better hosts, would love to return there at the end of our travels

  • You will not be disappointed here. This is lovely apartment with great hosts. The room itself is very light and airy with a huge window looking out onto Mt Mary Steps. A superb location with the autorickshaw always on the corner outside for whenever you need to go anywhere.

Great hosts who although busy at work had time to join for some socialising. Steph and Pete are cool guys who are very accommodating and keep a very clean and welcoming home with very importantly... Fast broadband!

Do go on the tours that Steph can arrange... A must! I cannot recommend this place enough and if I am back in Mumbai I certainly hope i could stay again.

  • Steph and Pete's flat is so cute, and very clean. Our room is just what my friend and I needed for our stay in Mumbai and there was plenty of space for both of us! Steph and Pete were really friendly and sweet and very accommodating. They can also help answer any questions about Mumbai or offer suggestions on what to do!

  • Great place, fun people, could not have asked for a better experience! We have made new friends and seen more of mumbai than most tourists get to see. Definitely check out the tours that you can do through Reality.. They are amazing. My husband and I slept so well and enjoyed hanging out with Steph and Pete so much we are meeting up with them in Goa! If you want a friendly, clean, nice place to stay than book it!

  • Great little bnb, awesome central location with plenty of rickshaws outside at the intersection to take you anywhere. There's even a beautician down the road (Called '21') where they can dress you in a saree (if you need to) professionally for only 200INR and thread eyebrows for 50INR. Their place is very clean and exactly like described in the photos. Steph was also nice enough to wake up in the middle of the night to help ensure we got there from our flight safely. Would definitely stay there again!

  • Steph and Pete were great to stay with and their apartment was a really great spot. They even took me along to a wedding, which was one of my highlights in Mumbai. Bandra is an amazing neighbourhood and I highly recommend staying here.

  • All the prior reviews of Steph and Pete are tried and true. They are welcoming, interesting, knowledgeable and know how to keep a tidy and comfortable place. The place is just as advertised. The area is safe and quiet. It is walk able to the shore and close to/in a posh area where the Bollywood celebrities live. There are also some good restaurants nearby that I wish I had time to check out. The one drawback is that, while there is a strong ceiling fan and giant windows, I imagine the sleeping area would get quite hot during the April May months. I would stay with them again if I make it back to Mumbai, or wherever in the world they are next.

  • Steph and Pete were very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts!
The apartment is located in a nice neighborhood and there are plenty of autorickshaws and taxis available at any time of day or night. Make sure to remember the directions as the street is a bit tricky to find. The bedroom, living room and further facilities are very clean and inviting. Unfortunately, during our short stay in Mumbai we did not have the opportunity to spend more time with them - we would definitely have liked to get to know them better! Highly recommended!

  • The circumstances of my stay with Steph and Pete are probably a little unusual: I had already been in Mumbai for two weeks and found myself with an awkward amount of time before I could move into more permanent accommodation. I needed a place to stay and came across Steph and Pete's place on AirBnB.
It is hard to write a review of my experience, because it would be like trying to rate a stay with good friends. Steph and Pete are as wonderful as the home they created: warm and inviting. I am really happy that my stay in Mumbai has been extended, because I have great people now to enjoy my time here with! We had a lot of fun during my time with them: we went out to eat, saw comedy and Pete even cooked a delicious meal for us one evening. I always looked forward to coming back to the apartment after a day out.
Just a few notes about the room, location, etc.: The room is beautifully decorated, quiet and despite being an extension of the living room, very private. Large windows bring in light and birdsong. The apartment is in Bandra West, at the bottom of the steps to Mount Mary Church: a beautiful part of Mumbai that is more akin to a town in Goa than the metropolis lying just south of the area. It is buzzing with a lot of youth, cosmopolitanism and energy.
This has got to be one of the best AirBnB listings in Mumbai and I would not think twice about recommending Steph and Pete's to anyone.

  • I can't say enough great things about Steph and Pete! Staying with them in Mumbai was fantastic, they were super helpful with any questions we had about getting around town and adjusting to the craze of India and the city. Even before we made it there, Steph went out of her way to make sure we knew exactly how to reach their location and offered to help us book any trains that we had trouble booking. With Mumbai as our first stop in India, we were definitely a bit frazzled and overwhelmed, but as soon as we reached their apartment all of that disappeared.

The location of the apartment is wonderful. We were a little worried that we would be too far from Colaba and all of the touristy sites, but taking the train into town was easy and made staying in Bandra worth it. It's an easy rickshaw ride to Pali Naka and a 5 minute walk to the seaside where all of the Bollywood stars live. I highly recommend going on a tour of Dharavi through Reality Tours, it was the highlight of our time in Mumbai and truly an eye-opening experience. Steph set everything up for us with the tour, all we had to do was show up!

The apartment was clean and had everything we needed. The mattress comfortably fit two and there was plenty of storage space. There wasn't A/C, which for some could be a problem in the Mumbai heat but we didn't mind. The fans were plenty! The shower and toilet were clean and working, there's a TV but we never ended up using it because there was so much else to do. Their maid was the absolute nicest and she made us breakfast and washed our dirty clothes.

Steph and Pete are pros at being hosts. They know how to respect privacy without seeming cold and how to establish friendships without being over bearing. Our second night in Mumbai they joined us for dinner and then walked with us around Bandra and the sea. It was great fun chatting with them. They had tons of stories from their travels around the world and adjusting to life in Mumbai. It was great getting to know them and our stay in the city wouldn't have been nearly as rich if we had stayed elsewhere. Thanks you two!

Hi! We're a 27-year-old couple living in Mumbai. I (Steph) work for Reality Tours and Travel, a social-tour operator that conducts city tours in Mumbai, using the money to fund it's sister NGO, Reality Gives. Pete works for Reality Gives and is in charge of the sports programmes, including a football program for young girls, and a cricket program for boys. He also coaches swimming at the American School of Bombay. I'm from Tennessee and went to university in New York and Amsterdam and Pete's from Exeter in the UK. We met while living in Shanghai, China and before moving to Mumbai, were living in London. We love travelling and our most recent big trip was taking the train from Shanghai all the way to London when we moved. Can't wait to meet you!
