The Space

Aloha! ' Coconut Palms' is a great place to stay because it is centered in between Kehena Beach and Kapoho.

It has been a great place to to a world full of visitors from Canada, Germany, Israel, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and others for 2 years now. If you are looking for value, this is the place for you.

If you are looking for accomodations for 1-2 people, needing a fully furnished completely private studio w/ private bathroom/kitchenette and this unit rents for only $55/night or $325.00 per week. This unit has one queen bed, Direct TV, landline w/ free long distance, WiFi internet. There is a rock BBQ outside as well and parking is free - next to your studio..

You can see the ocean from the studio 10 blocks away. It is walking distance to the Hele-on bus that will take you to Hilo for just $1.00 and it comes by 3x/day.

Many people come to the Puna district ( Kehena Beach, Kapoho, Pahoa and Kalapana) for the sunshine, peace and quiet, for nature walks, yoga and more. Puna is also known to get less rain than pother ares on the island.
Puna is also a great place to see the active lava flows and to see Kilauea Volcano , the Hawaiian jungles, tropical rainforests, beautiful coastal views, geothermically heated ponds, snorkeling.

This is the place for water lovers and we have what you need : snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, noodles for your swimming pleasure... and did you know that the best and safest snorkeling area is just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools?
You can easily navigate all of these places from Coconut Palms, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'.\

Now, for those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Tiki Bar' if you want to sip a beer and listen to live Hawaiian/Jawaiian/Country music..just down the road from us.

Our renters love Coconut Palms of Kalapana and you will too - we guarantee it.

  • For the price it was perfect! Everything was in order and everything you needed was right there in the studio. Andre met us when we arrived in the evening, got us settled and went over all the great things to do on their side of the island. If you just need a home base and not a lot of room, we highly recommend this studio.

  • The perfect room for a great vacation. The room was clean and neat just like the pictures show and perfect location for the bus and close to kalani as well. Will be back 2014. :)

  • Susan's place at Pahoa is quite a way out from the built up areas around Hilo and upon our arrival our first thoughts were that we were in the middle of nowhere, But that is the charm of the area and although quite remote once you find your way around there is lots to do. The Lava pool was a highlight as was the drive along the coast to Kalapana. The local Market Farmers market is a great place to get good cheap fruit and veg.
Although we did not meet Susan her husband Andre and son Miguel were very obliging with local knowledge and problem solving. Andre even made two trips to disconnect a smoke detector that went off in the early hours of the morning.
I believe it has been mentioned but hot water in the dish washing area would make life easier for the studio tenants,

  • Spacious clean studio with everything we needed. Amazing host that went out of his way when my bike broke down. Thanks for a great stay!!

  • The house is located in nice safe area. We were on the second floor studio which had ample room to get around. Simple cooking equipment in the room and small sink to wash dishes or pots outside the room near the stairway. Lanai outside the room provided a nice view toward the ocean and rainbow right after the rain. Area is dark and stars visible at nights. Coqui frog and hearing rain coming down was very pleasant experience for me. Andre was very pleasant and he will make himself available when needed. Checking out was very simple; just leaving the place clean, leave the key and that's it. Thank you

  • This is a great little studio with nice ocean view in a friendly neighborhood with paved streets. We were traveling around the island with no set itenerary and had planned on mostly camping until we learned that the rate for 2 non-residents had been raised to $40 per night - might as well go with Airbnb. Andre responded to our inquiry within a few minutes and was able to accomodate us on short notice. The kitchenette was stocked with everything you need, including a rice maker. Both he and Susan have been great and we plan to stay with them again on our next Big Island adventure.
