Nice quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Great place to walk around.
Yes, the Heleon bus comes by in front of the subdivision 3x/day. They charge $1 to go to Hilo and another $1 to go to Kona.
For the price it was perfect! Everything was in order and everything you needed was right there in the studio. Andre met us when we arrived in the evening, got us settled and went over all the great things to do on their side of the island. If you just need a home base and not a lot of room, we highly recommend this studio.
The perfect room for a great vacation. The room was clean and neat just like the pictures show and perfect location for the bus and close to kalani as well. Will be back 2014. :)
Susan's place at Pahoa is quite a way out from the built up areas around Hilo and upon our arrival our first thoughts were that we were in the middle of nowhere, But that is the charm of the area and although quite remote once you find your way around there is lots to do. The Lava pool was a highlight as was the drive along the coast to Kalapana. The local Market Farmers market is a great place to get good cheap fruit and veg.
Although we did not meet Susan her husband Andre and son Miguel were very obliging with local knowledge and problem solving. Andre even made two trips to disconnect a smoke detector that went off in the early hours of the morning.
I believe it has been mentioned but hot water in the dish washing area would make life easier for the studio tenants,
Spacious clean studio with everything we needed. Amazing host that went out of his way when my bike broke down. Thanks for a great stay!!
The house is located in nice safe area. We were on the second floor studio which had ample room to get around. Simple cooking equipment in the room and small sink to wash dishes or pots outside the room near the stairway. Lanai outside the room provided a nice view toward the ocean and rainbow right after the rain. Area is dark and stars visible at nights. Coqui frog and hearing rain coming down was very pleasant experience for me. Andre was very pleasant and he will make himself available when needed. Checking out was very simple; just leaving the place clean, leave the key and that's it. Thank you
This is a great little studio with nice ocean view in a friendly neighborhood with paved streets. We were traveling around the island with no set itenerary and had planned on mostly camping until we learned that the rate for 2 non-residents had been raised to $40 per night - might as well go with Airbnb. Andre responded to our inquiry within a few minutes and was able to accomodate us on short notice. The kitchenette was stocked with everything you need, including a rice maker. Both he and Susan have been great and we plan to stay with them again on our next Big Island adventure.
Host was very kind and explain what to see around the location. Very nice house, neibourghood. Clean and complete services. Near of the sea and nice snorkeling location around.
This place happened to be conveniently located for our tour at the Kanapala Cultural Tour and the price was very fair so we booked it. The people were super nice, recommended restaurants and met us so we could check in before our hike and not have to look for the place after dark. (The apartment is very basic. We slept there only one night. It was pretty hot, but the overhead fan and a floor fan helped circulate the air. The coqui are quite chatty during the night:)
Great accommodation if you are on budget and would like to spend time in a quiet and very natural part of the island. Clean and safe.
No cellphone connection in a 2/3mile radius at the moment but a landline is provided free of charge
This was a great little apartment with everything you need for a vacation! The kitchenette was well stocked and everything was clean and organized. I had a phone and free WiFi. Although there were adjunct apartments, I had complete privacy and felt comfortable and safe. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning, but there were fans and it wasn't the end of the world. The hosts were easy to get ahold of and extremely friendly and helpful. I had access to snorkel gear and the ocean was right down the road!
Location was perfect for me - I could drive 5 minutes and have breakfast at the local café, then drive down the sea view road to the beach. This was a great experience that I would love to repeat again!
