Sadly, this experience was overall very disappointing. The building was in a pretty rough part of town and in need of repairs. Paul offered to let me come see the space before the party and I wish I had! There was graffiti and broken glass on the roof and the stairs up to the space smelled terrible and had fresh spit stains from the workers in the building. However, I will say it was still a pretty funky and cool space and the views at night were really cool so it probably still would have been a fun event if I hadn't had such an issue with Jesus.
There was a disagreement about what time I could use the space until. I originally requested and event from 12-6PM but then later asked by email what time I could stay until to which Paul responded 2AM. Jesus came into the party a little after 6PM and said I had to leave within an hour or if I wanted to stay pay more money. I showed him the email saying I could use the space until 2AM which he promptly dismissed saying I only requested the space until 6PM and the email was a mistake.
I understand mistakes are made and maybe they didn't mean to say 2AM but the fact is that is what I was told and was expecting. He was not apologetic at all and was actually pretty rude. The whole interaction was extremely unprofessional- not to mention pretty embarrassing to have this happen in front of all my guests!
Love, love, love the location. We filmed a series of exercise videos in the space and they looked great. Very creative and cool space.
Working with Paul was a bit difficult. Though we confirmed four days in advance (and again the night before) that we'd be arriving at 9AM, people were occupying the space when we arrived. To his credit, Paul was able to wake and remove the individuals fairly quickly. He later explained that he mistakenly thought we'd be arriving at 11AM, despite us confirming twice for 9AM.
Paul became increasingly irritable as the day progressed - like when our filming lights blew a fuse that he was unable to reset for us. By the time we were taking down the equipment, Paul came out on the roof - visibly annoyed - and accused the crew of intentionally dropping equipment to make noise; it was embarrassing.
Interacting with Paul became an unnecessarily stressful experience, and it ultimately reflected poorly on me - as I was the individual who booked the location for the crew.
Spectacular location! All of our guests raved about it. We had an evening party with the marvelous view of downtown LA. Jesus and Paul were just wonderful hosts! They accommodated our needs very nicely! They even provided door person/parking attendant which we weren't expecting and so appreciated!!! Highly recommend this location!

About the Host, Paul
Jesus and I are artists. I work as a freelance Cameraman/Editor and Jesus is a Painter/Sculptor/Jewelry Designer. We both love to travel and meet new people. Our space on Hill St. is the 2nd space that we have renovated. This loft was a sewing factory before we moved in and completely remodeled the space. We are total 'Foodies' and we will drive 100 miles to try a new cuisine. We try to live uncomplicated, art-filled lives and we are drawn to people who do the same. We enjoy the company of others and pride ourselves on our hospitality and knowledge of Los Angeles. Plain and simple, we are FUN!!!
