The Space

Affordable Home, Centrally Located for Visitors

Welcome to your affordable home away from home! From what I've seen on AirBnB, this looks like one of your best economical options for staying in the Monterey area. My house accommodates up to 8 and your house-broken pet is welcome to stay. I respond to most inquiries very quickly.

Located in Castroville, a small town of about 10,000 people, my home is just 3 miles from Moss Landing beach, and about 15 minutes from beautiful Monterey.

I am a local businessperson who works and travels frequently and invite you to enjoy my home when I’m not there.

Located very close to Highway 1 (but not so close you hear any noise), this is a great jumping off point to get away for quick trips to Monterey, Salinas, Big Sur, and Santa Cruz. (Personally, I love to kayak and hike at Elkhorn Slough, which is only 3 miles away).

There are plenty of fun activities in the house including a pool table, ping pong, Xbox 360 with Kinect and games, dartboard, large flat-screen TV with a supply of DVDs you’re welcome to watch. There is a small yard and a private driveway that kids can use for play. Speaking of kids, there’s a GREAT library one block away and a park/skate park/recreation center one block away. Just steps from the house, there is a mini-market, meat market, and a local’s favorite Texas BBQ restaurant across the street if you don’t feel like cooking. If you do feel like cooking, I have all of the standards pots, pans, cooking machines, and utensils.

The house enjoys plenty of private parking and, while it’s in a residential neighborhood, it is recessed from the street and other houses so it feels a bit more solitary. There are three bedrooms in the house. If you need it, two guests could sleep in the living room on an airbed (which I can lend you).

Full use of the house includes:
x Kitchen with gas stove, microwave and space in the refrigerator. Cooks welcome!
x Living/dining room
x Outdoor garden area with deck chairs
x Bathroom: All linens and towels included
x Garage with washer and dryer and room for your bicycle, golf clubs, surfboard or extra stuff.
x Television in the living room (it’s not currently hooked up to cable, but it has a DVD player).
x Massage chair!

Local Activities
Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf, surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, bike riding, whale watching. Big Sur, Point Lobos hiking, Esalen, Wine tasting in Carmel Valley. Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Carmel, 17 Mile Drive.

Weather:
Summer is moderately warm and sunny (although we’re only one mile from the ocean, so sea breezes keep things temperate)
Fall is our Indian Summer – our best weather.

Note: check in/out times can be flexible, depending on other rentals and my schedule. Please ask if you need alternate check in/out times.

  • Accommodations:
Paul's listing was perfect for me and my group of 9 friends. We wanted to spend a relaxing weekend getaway near Monterey and cook together and were able to with Paul's accommodations. The kitchen area is very spacious and enabled us 10 cooking and prepping at the same time without problems. We also enjoyed playing darts, Dance Central on the Kinect, ping pong in the garage, watching Office Space in the living room, and listening to music via his speakers - he has everything!

    Host:
Paul was extremely responsive and friendly. The details he provided were 100% accurate and we had no problems finding or getting into the listing. We were very forgetful and left a duffel bag and fryer cord and he noticed it within a day of our departure and offered to mail them to us - what amazing hospitality! He also generously provided 2 bottles of white wine as a welcome present. To top it off, he got an extra bed the day before we arrived, which helped with our large group. I highly recommend Paul!!

    Location:
Monterey was an easy 20-25 minutes drive away. We did not spend much time in Castroville except trying to eat at the BBQ place a block away from Paul's house.

We were short one can of peaches so we conveniently walked less than couple minutes around the block to the market and found some.

  • This place was great. Clean, well-furnished and spacious. An unexpected gem in Castroville - close to everything (especially the great barbecue restaurant across the street) and a perfect staging area to visit Monterey and Moss Landing and other nearby attractions. Thanks Paul!

  • We found Paul responsive and easy to communicate with. The accommodation is affordable and well located for overnight stays.

  • Paul's house was clean when we arrived. Each bedroom was large enough for two two dog crates. It was a perfect place for 3 ladies and 6 agility dogs to stay. The house is just 20 minutes from Toro Regional Park and 10 minutes from Manzanita Park where the agility trials are. It was so nice to have a yard where the dogs could relax and play before and after each day's competition. More comfortable and much better price than any motel. And there was plenty of parking, too. We'll be back for the next agility trial if the house is available!

    Thnaks for you home!

    Yours Sincerly

  • We had a great stay at Paul's place. It was well kept and equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The house is in a nice, quiet neighborhood and the location is a great starting point for spending a day in the Monterey-Carmel area. Paul was very helpful and responsive, and I would be happy to stay at his place again.

About
I am a local businessperson who works and travels frequently and would like someone to enjoy my home when I’m not there. Maybe that’s you and your family/friends? Personally, I love studying languages (fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and I fake my way through a few others) travelling (Brazil!), reading. Someone asked me recently what my hobbies were and I included "work." Isn't that a sign of a twisted mind? :-)
