About this listing
A great place for larger groups who want to visit the area. Close to Highway 1, my home is spacious and comfortable. Pool table, ping pong, Xbox, movies...plenty to keep your group entertained. Netflix is available in 2 bedrooms and living room.
Affordable Home, Centrally Located for Visitors
My house is ideally suited for larger groups. Plenty of things to do at the house, bbq, pool table, ping pong, Xbox Kinect. Great location for visiting Monterey and more. Well-behaved pets are welcome. As an owner, I'm pretty easy-going and flexible. If you're interested, please keep reading.
THE LONGER STORY…
My house accommodates up to 8 comfortably (I've had a few groups even larger than that with some people sleeping on air beds. Keep in mind there is only one bathroom). Your house-broken pet is welcome to stay. I respond to most inquiries very quickly.
With the Aquarium tickets, if you stay one weeknight, I include two tickets (with two more available at $25 each). If you stay more than one weeknight or one Fri or Sat night, I include 4 tickets.
Located in Castroville, a small working-class town of about 10,000 people, my home is just 3 miles from Moss Landing beach, and about 15 minutes from beautiful Monterey.
Located very close to Highway 1 (but not so close you hear any noise), this is a great jumping off point to get away for quick trips to Monterey, Salinas, Big Sur, and Santa Cruz. (Personally, I love to kayak and hike at Elkhorn Slough, which is only 3 miles away).
There are plenty of fun activities in the house including a pool table, ping pong, Xbox 360 with Kinect and games, dartboard, large flat-screen TV with a supply of DVDs you're welcome to watch. There is a small yard and a driveway that kids can use for play. Speaking of kids, there's a GREAT library one block away and a park/skate park/recreation center one block away. Just steps from the house, there is a mini-market, meat market, and a Mexican restaurant across the street if you don't feel like cooking. If you do feel like cooking, I have all of the standards pots, pans, cooking machines, and utensils. If you want to cook, I can provide you a detailed list of everything I have that you can use. I have a new bbq and you're welcome to borrow my small cooler to take to the beach.
The house enjoys plenty of semi-private parking (shared with my neighbor who doesn't really use it) and, while it's in a residential neighborhood, it is recessed from the street and other houses so it feels a bit more secluded. There are three bedrooms in the house. If you need it, two guests could sleep in the living room on an Aerobed (which I can lend you at no extra charge).
Full use of the house includes:
x Kitchen with gas stove, microwave and refrigerator. Cooks welcome!
x Living/dining room
x New laminate floor throughout kitchen/dining area, hallway and new carpet in bedrooms (finally got this done!)
x Outdoor garden area with deck chairs
x Bathroom: All linens and towels included
x Garage with washer and dryer and room for your bicycle, golf clubs, surfboard or extra stuff.
x Television in the living room (it's not currently hooked up to cable, but it has a DVD player). I have an HDMI cable which I can lend you for connecting your device to the TV.
x Massage chair and foot massager!
x Keyboard, if you have any pianists who want to entertain
Monterey Bay Aquarium, beaches (one group said that the beach at Lover's Point is the best beach for kids that they've ever been to), Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, bike riding, whale watching. Big Sur, Point Lobos hiking, Esalen, Wine tasting in Carmel Valley. Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Carmel, 17 Mile Drive, Santa Cruz (including the famous Beach Boardwalk).
Summer is moderately warm and sunny (although we're only one mile from the ocean, so sea breezes keep things temperate)
Fall is our Indian Summer – our best weather.
Note: check in/out times can be flexible, depending on other rentals and my schedule. Please ask if you need alternate check in/out times.
Interaction with Guests
I tend not to be here to greet you because I'm usually at work or away. I leave the key and instructions so you can arrive whenever it's most convenient for you. If you're staying longer and want me to swing by, I'm happy to do that and offer my suggestions on anything local you want to know about.
It's a working-class neighborhood in an agricultural town (Castroville - Artichoke Capital of the World). It's safe but don't expect Beverly Hills! Many guests have liked the "authentic" feeling to it. There are lots of Mexican markets within a few blocks walking distance. Personally, I like that.
There are buses, but this isn't the greatest place for using public transit. You should have a car.
You are welcome to smoke outside. House-trained pets are not a problem, and there's a small lawn for them. Please just treat my home as you would treat your own (which is treating it well, right?). :-)
