About this listing
This is most probably the best spot in Soho. You are in the middle of everything: steps from eclectic Chinatown and Nolita with small boutiques and restaurants. At the same time you are in Soho with high end stores and all entertainment you need. The apartment is located on Kenmare Square with the hippest bars and restaurants. There is a small park in front of the building. The apartment has two bedrooms and one bathroom. To get to the bathroom you need to go through one of the bedrooms - please consider this. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and a nice living room. Wireless Internet, Aircondition etc.. There is original art from my gallery on the walls. The apartment is in a old building and by no means like a 5 Start Hotel, it is a nice old NY apartment and we do love it. The apartment is a walkup - there is no elevator in the building. If you stay at our apartment you will get the best of Downtown NY. Also you are 1/2 block from the green 6 subway on Spring Street. Starbucks is also 1/2 block so fresh coffee is no problem.
Soho is probably one of the best shopping areas in the world with a beautiful and authentic architecture. At the same time you are steps from more eclectic neighborhoods like Lower Eats Side and China Town. From the location you can basically walk anywhere in Downtown.
All major Subways are close - the green line is 20 seconds from the apt.
We newly renovated the apartment all we ask treat it like your own. No parties without checking with us before - of course you can have dinner parties. We do have valuable original artwork on the wall as well as some designer furniture please respect it. Garbage has to be put out in black bags Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays in front of building after 6 pm.
We really enjoyed our stay in Arne's appartment. More centrally located than this you won't get! The best shopping and bakery in NYC around the corner. Subway around the corner. Small, clean appartment. Little noisy with traffic. But I would stay here next time we're in NYC.
Cute as a button. Everything was exactly as described in the add. VERY CLEAN and COMFORTABLE! Plenty of towels. Beds were soft and cozy. Bathroom was updated and sparkling fresh. Arne even had a handbook on the table of all the little details from the Wi-fi, to the rooftop deck, to the neighborhood. Definitely worth the price we paid. You wont find a decent hotel with comparable amenities for even close to this cost. Even though my host was halfway across the world in Germany, she still was extremely prompt with responses and arrangements for check in. I thank her and her house cleaner so much for their patience with us as we were stuck in unpredictable NYC traffic on the day of check in and her cleaner was nice enough to wait for us to make sure we checked in ok. I was very pleased with my stay especially the fact that Arne most definitely takes very good care of her property and seems to host with pride.
Je n'ai pas rencontrer Arne mais comme nous arrivions tres tard il a reussi a nous faire parvenir les clés!
L'appartement est comme decrit et tres bien situé! A recommandé!
Great little spot to base yourself to explore the wonders of NYC. The information pack left by our host was amazingly helpful. We had such a wonderful time. The apartment was just as described and perfect for our needs. We were traveling with 2 young boys 4 and 7. Thank you for this great experience
Vielen Dank an Arne !
This appartment,. not only din't reacht our expectations, but it was a complete disappointment. We had so many complaints at our arrival that I was forced to do a list out of them, in order to inform the owner, hoping to find some kind of solution. It is completeley overpriced for what is offered. The only good thing about it: the location, between the SOHO and Chinatown.
I leave here some of the complaints and its answers:
"1- Just as we arrived, we were really upset at the fact that there is no elevator to get to the apartment (something that the owner failed to inform on his add). We arrived tired and with heavy lugagges, so this point was pretty terrible to start with. Furthermore, the staircase itself is too steep and narrow, making it even more difficult to take our lugagges up."
Arne admitted that it was't explained on the add, and promised to add it in the future (too late for us).
2- There is a consistent terrible smell on the entrance and all the way throught the stairs up to the apartment, which again tends to worsen your mood. This is most probably caused by the presence of the garbage containers at the entrance, which is really unpleasant.
Nothing was answered to this fact.
3- "The bathroom has no natural or forced ventilation whatsoever, and it is located inside one of the bedrooms, so it is not accesible for those who are sleeping on the other one. Again, unconfortability."
Answer: To this complaint, Arne explained that the fact that the bathroom was accesible through a bedroom was explained on the add. What they didn´t tell, though, it's that is has no ventilation at all. Completely uncomfortable.
"4- The bedroom that leads to the bathroom has no wardrobe to keep your stuff and no sidetable for the bed (no lamp for the bed either, naturally)."
Nothing was answered to this one either.
5- The other bedroom (the one that has no access to bathroom) is an interior one, without window.
Again, nothing to say.
6- "There is no coffee maker".
They apologised, telling us that there should be a coffee maker, They promised us one, which arrived on the last afternoon before leaving the appartment.
7- "As already mentioned, the wifi connection is inconsistent (impossible to connect unless seated closed to the entrance or inside the interior bedroom, and even so the connection is really poor)".
On the last afternoon, they gave us the password of another wifi connection, which worked much better.
8- To put the icing on the cake, there is a scaffolding at the building fassade!!
"For all these reasons, which were never properly mentioned at your add, and speak poorly of your services, we demand a refund."
They just offered us to buy a new coffemaker, which arrived too late, as already mentioned. Or just to get the refund and leave the appartment, which was no solution at all.
Well obviously Consuelo did not enjoy her stay and I am sorry about that. Judging on the fact the over 100 people really loved the apartment and we do too I think it clearly shows that Consuelos expectations are difficult to satisfy. Besides the fact that most of her complaints are wrong and unreasonable - she did not discuss but was hostile from her first communication. As in the review her first complaint was that there is no elevator and I did not tell her. After researching I found out that only a rather small percentage of buildings in NY have elevators. If in Madrid - where Consuelo comes from - it is law that every building has a elevator I am very happy for Consuelo and her fellow Madrid Co-Livers - in New York and every other city of this world not even half of the building have elevators. Therefore Airbnb gives you the opportunity to say that you have a elevator because it is a comfortable amenity. I was never aware of the fact that people expect elevators and so far nobody ever did - if people wanted it they asked me before in our communication. However I will add it to the description so that people like Consuelo will not be disappointed. All the other complaints are more or less senseless to answer - fact is - and I write that in my description this is a old house and by no means a hotel. We do love this apartment as many friendly guests from all over the world did already. I am very sorry that Consuelo did not have a good time and I tried to improve it but she did not work with us and also she only stayed for a very short period - so to organize a new internet and coffee maker etc. needs a day. I will surrey take Consuelos comments in consideration and try to improve the apartment even more so that everyone who comes will have a good time.
The location is excellent !
Just round the corner is all you need to see and do in Soho

About the Host, Arne
I am German but at the same time a New Yorker after living more then 10 years here. I am married with Kathie and we have two small daughters - which keep us busy. I do own Pablo's Birthday Gallery (Gallery for Contemporary Art) in NYC which is in my opinion the most exciting city in the world.
