The space
WHAT DO YOU GET?

This is a in January 2024 opened luxurious guest apartment for two adults and two pre-school children. It has a spacious living room with a kitchenette, a tiny bedroom and a small shower room with toilet. It’s like a five-star hotel, but it's actually as comfortable as a home, say our guests.

PRICING

Our price is transparent: everything is included. You don't have to pay extra for hot drinks, double occupancy or children beds.

We value slow tourism and environmental care. That's why it's cheaper if you're staying longer than one night.

Send us a message and we will be happy to give you information about the discounted rates for a week or a month. For special offers, feel free to contact us.

WHY TARTU?

Tartu is one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2024 and its programme has something for everyone. What's more, Tartu has been selected by CNN as one of the 2024 travel destinations. Come to Tartu to see the city, go to a concert, theatre, the Estonian National Museum, the Ahhaa Science Centre, the Aura or V-spa. The green suite is located less than a kilometre from the Town Hall.

NOT JUST ANOTHER APARTMENT

Our apartment has character, with mid-century modern style rounded corners of the ceilings and restored murals, both dating from the building's construction year 1959.

The bedroom walls are painted with casein paint, while the bathroom walls have lime plaster and tiles. Throughout the living area there are freshly oiled hardwood floors and most of the curtains are cotton. Authentic materials make this apartment luxurious. In addition, there are small details here to delight lovers of Nordic design.

You don't have to worry about getting or loosing a key, because we don't have any. Our front door and apartment door have a handy code lock. Codes will be sent to you a day before your arrival via Airbnb message.

FOR SHORT AND LONG STAYS

The guest apartment has been completely renovated and opened in January 2024. The kitchen has everything you need, the bathroom has a washing machine and the apartment has plenty of storage space. It is therefore comfortable to live and work here, even for several months.

BEDROOM

Everything in the bedroom is brand new, from the built-in furniture to the mattress. There is also a separate shelf for suitcases and other luggage.

The bed is 140 cm wide and has a medium hard spring mattress. The blankets and pillows are of high quality and washable and do not contain any bird feathers. You can choose between two different pillows and blankets. The bed linen is made of high quality satin cotton.

Please note: the bedroom is very small, so the most comfortable way to get into bed is from the footboard.

CHILDREN FRIENDLY

There is room for two small children. There is a baby cot (from a newborn until 2 year old) and a low bed for a nursery-age child. Please note that the children beds do not fit in the bedroom, but in the living room, as you can see in the picture. The apartment is small and the surroundings are quiet, so you can hear them well from the bedroom.

There are some toys, books and drawing materials for the children. There is also a baby chair booster seat for dining, baby and children dishes, a children toilet seat and a bath for a child up to 1 year old.

LIVINGROOM

The living room has a good quality sofa, a sofa table, a wooden dining table, a wall mounted shelf, a smart TV and lots of room plants. The window sills are made of sturdy birch wood. A cushion is placed on the window seat, where you can comfortably drink your tea and look into the distance. In the living room and the bedroom, you will be illuminated by wall lamps Ball of the legendary Danish brand Fransen, which have been in production since 1960ies.

OFFICE DESK

In addition, there is a separate office desk and chair in the living room. You can also work on your computer while standing by the window sill by placing it on a special tray with legs. The tray sits on a shelf above the fridge.

OPEN KITCHEN

There is a kitchen area on one side of the living room. Here you will find a hybrid oven that can be used as a conventional oven or a microwave. It is set up for microwave use: it currently has a glass base inside. If you want to bake something and use the conventional oven modes, just take the oven rack and the oven trays from the oven drawer. Before you start, hang a rack holder on both walls inside the oven, it's very easy, no tools needed.

NOTE: if you are using the oven as a microwave, do not put metal objects in the oven. If you are using the oven as a conventional oven, do not put any glass in the oven.

There is a large fridge in the kitchen and a vintage design kettle, toaster and filter coffee machine. The kitchen is also stocked with frying and salad oil and condiments, baking utensils, sushi eating utensils, wine-opening utensils and more. There is a wide range of cups and glasses to suit all tastes.

As the kitchen area is small, dishes have to be washed by hand. Kitchen towels can be found in the kitchen cupboard.

COFFEE CORNER

There is also a coffee corner in the kitchenette. Ground coffee, coffee beans, decaffeinated coffee and a chocolate drink are prepared, as well as tea sets. There is a filter coffee machine, a press pot and a coffee grinder. There's a timer on the coffee machine if you want fresh coffee waiting for you when you wake up.

Use the milk frother to make your own frothy cappuccino or latte, or make hot chocolate with it. Using the machine is a breeze: just select the programme and press the button. You can find milk in the fridge.

BATHROOM

Hotel-quality towels await you in the heated bathroom and a spare set of towels is in the wall cupboard. There is a hairdryer, shower gel and shampoo, a sewing kit and first aid supplies. There is a washing machine, a drying rack and a washing machine soap.

The shampoo and shower gel as well as the soap, dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent are environmentally friendly and/or eco-labelled.

CLEANING PRODUCTS

A large cupboard in the living room is dedicated to cleaning utensils. You can use a vacuum cleaner, etc. Under the sink you'll find a cupboard for household chemicals.

Tartu, Estonia

REGION

Our suite is located in Toometaguse in the heart of Tartu, making it easy to start exploring the city on foot or to get to work from here. It is a safe and well-regarded residential area, mainly made up of smaller and larger apartment buildings. You can walk to Town Hall Square in 15 minutes and the bus station in 20 minutes.

There is a large park right next to our building and there are many cultural institutions, a university building and two schools on Vanemuise Street. You can get to the small Vanemuise Theatre in two minutes!

PLACES TO VISIT

The train station is a 7-minute walk away. Walk the other way and you're in the city centre in 10 minutes. Walk further and you'll get to the main bus station, a total of 20 minutes from the suite.

You can also get to the Aparaaditehas Cultural Centre in 10 minutes, which has taken over a Soviet-era manufacturing complex and is one of the centres of Tartu's cultural life. It is a diverse place with cafés, shops, restaurants and workshops. There are even occasional street festivals on the corner of Riga and Kastani Streets!

INTERESTING IN EVERY DIRECTION

Did you know that you have a choice of several routes of almost equal length to get to the city centre, and the walk takes barely 15 minutes, but each route takes you to a different environment?

If you leave our building and turn left towards Tiigi Street and walk through Hurda Park, you will reach the culturally rich Vanemuise Street. It's busier because it's home to both buildings of the Vanemuine Theatre, the university's teaching building and natural history museum, the Tartu Art House and the House of Literature. There are also several schools here.

There is a beautiful pond with a fountain in the historic Hurda Park next to our neighbouring house. It's a peaceful recreation area with large trees, and the closest city car park to the suite. The people of Tartu love their city bikes, especially because some of them are electric!

However, if you exit our building and turn right, you will come to Kuperjanov Street. Walk a few hundred metres towards the city centre and you'll see the newly restored St Mary's Church. Turn left just before the church and you will see Toomemä Hill. Enjoy the historic atmosphere and the peace and quiet. Cross Toomemägi and you'll come to Raekoja Square, the hub of Tartu's events. In the winter, a free skating rink is open here, along with paid skate rentals, which are much loved by locals. In summer, fairs and concerts are often held here. There are plenty of open-air cafés.

From our apartment you can also walk to Toomemägi via a third road, along the beautiful and recently renovated Veski Street. It is a street of cultural interest and you can see well-preserved wooden buildings from before the Second World War. When you get to the corner of Veski-Näituse, turn right towards Toomemäe and walk down the hill to the corner of Baeri-Jakobi Street in the city centre.

OUR HOUSE

The apartment building where our suite is located is one of the residential houses built after the Second World War, called khrushchevka. Thousands of them were built throughout the Soviet Union.

In Tartu, some of the khrushchevs have recently been completely renovated and have become 'smart houses': they are warm and comfortable to live in, and they generate their own electricity with solar panels. This is exactly the case with our house.

The front wall of our apartment building features a large mural by Tartu artist Marja-Liisa Plats called "Vabbe Tree". It is dedicated to the Estonian artist Ado Vabbe.
