About this listing
Located in the very centre of Thun, this airbnb room is a perfect base for ecxursions to Bern and to the touristic highlights of the Bernese Alps.
This location is a perfect base to visit Bern and the touristic sites of the Berner Oberland.
The comfortable room en suite (12m2) with its 140cm to 200cm sized bed is a perfect place to stay for one or two guests. Part of the arrangement is a bathroom, equipped with a shower. The room belongs to the spacious apartment, where I am living in.
The railway station is a 15 minutes walk or two bus stops away. Due to the central location of the B&B-room, a considerable variety of shops, bars, restaurants and the historic centre of Thun are a stone’s throw away. The castle of Thun can be reached in 10 minutes and also the lake is not far away.
Thun is well located for day trips to well known touristic destinations of the Berner Oberland and the Wallis like Interlaken, Mürren, Grindelwald, Jungfraujoch, Wengen or Zermatt. But also less known areas like the Emmental offer rewarding sites to visit. During winter, the important skiing resorts of the Berner Oberland are not far. Bern, Switzerland's capital, is 30 km or 20 minutes away (for both, either car or train).
The guest room and the bathroom (equipped with a shower) are for your disposition, the kitchen can be used as well. A generous and sunny balcony is available for quiet summer evenings.
Breakfast is included, tea and coffee are always for your disposition. In the case that I am at home, it will be a pleasure for me, to take care you of your breakfast. If not, everything will be prepared and you just have to switch on the coffee machine and the toaster.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the apartment and we share i.e. the kitchen and the balcony. When I am around, it is a pleasure for me to have a chat with you, to reply to your questions, to give touristic advices. I enjoy the talks and the exchange with my guests a lot, but I accept and appreciate the desire to withdraw and your privacy.
“Schwäbis”, that is the name of the neighbourhood, where the airbnb room is located – close to the ancient city wall and the historic centre of Thun.
And those who like to swim in a fresh mountain river: The public bath and the river Aare are a stone's throw away. It opens the doors from May to September.
Three minutes away from the apartment you will find a bus stop, where the busses “1” and “3” will bring you to the station, two stops away.
The airports in Basel, Zürich and Geneva are well communicated by the Swiss railway system (SBB). You will have no difficulties finding a train to Thun, although you possibly might have to change the train in Bern.
When you arrive by car, you will find a commercial parking not far away. There is parking space in front of the house, but this should not be used by my guests, unless for short term.
- No smoking in the apartment
- Preferably no dogs
- Since I am living in the apartment, I should be glad if you respect my privacy and my private rooms.
- And, if possible: No shoes in the house (due to the “sensitive” wooden floor).
Thanks for respecting these few house rules. ;-)
This was our first AirBNB experience and it couldn't have been better.
Monika was a fantastic host - very friendly and knowledgable about the area and more than happy to help us plan our time. She told us about local farmers markets and recommended beautiful hiking routes (even printed maps for us). The breakfast she provided every morning was delicious and we enjoyed our daily chats with her.
The room itself was also very nice - comfortable bed with ample storage for clothes, etc. Very nice, modern bathroom across the hall for our private use. The apartment is in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the river (bring your bathing suit for summer swimming) and town squares for dining and shopping. It's a safe and easy 15 minute walk from the train station with closer bus options but we didn't use those because the walk is so pleasant.
Thun was a great home base for us - we reached the Lauterbrunnen Valley in just over an hour by train and Zermatt in just under 2 hours. It's a vibrant city with lots of charm, not too touristy, and easy access to Switzerland's biggest sites.
Overall this was a great experience and we'd highly recommend Monika and her apartment to others.
Monika is a great host and her house is very strategically located.
She made our stay a very comfortable one and even prepared freshly squeezed orange juice for the breakfast.
I would recommend her house for people thinking of visiting Interlaken, Bern, and Jungfrau.

It was very nice to stay at Monica's place. She had given directions so well that I reached there without any hassles. Monica was very welcoming and she spared a lot of time from her schedule to talk with us. The location is very near to bahnof and hence its really centrally located. Thanks Monica for the wonderful arrangements.. I strongly recommend this place for stay.
About the Host, Monika
It is really a pleasure to live in Thun, the Alps and the lake of Thun are so close, as well as Bern and Milano. I like to visit European countries, for instance Germany, UK, Spain, France or Italy. It is so important to meet local people, to get a feeling about every day life in the countries I am visiting. And to learn from them, to deepen my knowledge about other cultures and mentalities, to exchange ideas. To get connected with the world and to create and share positive experience. That is why I like to host guests in my home.
