We stayed at Castello for seven days in September/October. It’s a quirky, atmospheric place in a lovely location. We had a large group of friends, some with small children, and it suited us really well. The castle is on a working vineyard and elements of it are quite rustic but our group was very laidback and we had a great time. The booking process was smooth and although the manager was away during our stay, the farm manager who lives on site looked after us extremely well. On one night he cooked a four-course meal for us, which everyone enjoyed. There were indoor and outdoor dining spaces where the whole group (20 at one stage) could eat together, and a few different sitting areas. The bedrooms varied greatly in size, décor and facilities (some were quite luxurious, some had private kitchenettes and balconies, a couple had baths). Our group simply chose rooms on arrival and split the cost equally but others might want to sort this out differently. The pool was a beautiful spot to relax around, and the kids loved it. They also loved walking through the vineyard and the fruit trees, and patting the castle cat. M. S. S. was only a five-minute drive away so we took the kids in to use the playground a few times. It’s a nice little historic town to wander through and stop for coffee, as well as picking up supplies. We also did easy day trips into beautiful Siena and San Gimignano from the castle.
I rented the Castle for my 40th and invited a bunch a friends. We slept 26 comfortably. The villa was just perfect, isolated, beautiful out in nature. The pool was amazing and the villa itself really nice, very stylish and comfy. Everyone felt at home immediately. We planned to visit Sienna and surrounding places but we all ended up hanging out at the villa. The care taker was lovely - although not always around we struggled to find outdoor light switches for my b'day night by the pool. However they somehow came on for a good couple of hours.
Directions to the castle could have been clearer all 26 people got lost on the way in! But all part of the adventure. Head for Ciggiano and turn into Dell'esse. Thats the name of the road.
Myself , I will be back maybe to run a retreat. It's perfect !
