Harrogate is in the middle of the Dales with glorious wild walks from hilltop villages like Middlesmoor, where, it is rumoured, Lytton Strachey once stayed at The Crown. If you prefer a more serene splendour there is the National Trust’s Fountains Abbey where you could walk to Studley Royal along the water-side and back along the wooded banks, and the Woodland Trust has restored Hackfall Wood, a must for those of a romantic frame of mind. If you love gardens, the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are only an hour’s walk from the house. Harrogate’s famous Stray is across the road for a morning or an evening stroll.
I have two grown up children and three grandchildren I very much enjoy helping with on occasion. Passionate about the arts particularly textiles and Renaissance paintings, I like visiting places that have a range of period properties and ancient churches, the whole of history how it went and where we are now fascinates me. Politics too.
