We loved Marcia's place! She was a riot and filled with funny stories. Made us feel right at home. The location was amazing. Everything right at your fingertips. The room was clean, felt very private, and had great curtains if you like to sleep in. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Marcia was very welcoming and helpful! She is fun to eat breakfast with and you get a New York City take on SMA! There is a wonderful little organic restaurant 1 block from her house. My room was quiet and good for sleeping. I walked everywhere from there. She helped my first visit to SMA be so enjoyable and varied!
Marcia Dolce is a hands-on hostess who makes sure all guests feel comfortable and welcomed; she is not in-your-face if you preference is anonymity and privacy. Her coffee and granola-fruit-yogurt breakfasts are complimented by pastries, boiled eggs and baked fruits on alternate days. Our second floor rear room with private bath was comfortable, light, airy and quiet. The guests of her five room establishment could be characterized as providing rooming house comaraderie. A variety of couples and individuals was convivial but not intrusive during our month with her. There was always "news" if you partook in daily chitchats. Margarita Ledesma is but 10-20 minutes from everything. Its neighborhood Guadaloupe is "up and coming". There are plenty of street lights; we never felt uncomfortable or unsafe, though those conditions could exist almost anywhere. A local restaurant and a pizza parlour are minutes' walk away. Marcia will tell you answers to any question; she is a strong, lively personality who won't hesitate to "tell you like it is"; gentle pushback is graciously received if you prefer to "keep your distance". We recommend Marcia's BnB. Be prepared to ask for any comfort or necessity and you will experience wonderful hospitality. Her local knowledge is deep; we observed her many friendships of 16 years are genuine.
Marcia was a great host. She had terrific contacts for a driver, esthetician, entertainment ideas, local artists and interesting things to do in San Miguel. Whatever we needed, she tried her best to help. We had a lot of fun around the breakfast table because of her wonderful sense of humour. The rooms were clean and very comfortable.
Although our flight and shuttle to San Miguel had us arriving very late (11pm), Marcia was there to greet us. In the morning she showed us around town to help us get comfortable - we so appreciated this.
PROS: the room and private bath were very clean and location to Centro, very good. If all you want is a place to sleep and shower, this is perfect.
CONS: we thought we had booked a room with queen bed, however it was double. This may have been our oversight. Breakfast the first day was good however we were surprised to be asked to wash our own dishes (we're on vacation - and this was quite unlike any b&b experience we've had), breakfast on day 2 was leftover from day one and the fruit salad not even enough for one. We ate breakfast out for remainder of stay - and we decided to find more suitable accommodation. upon our departure after 4 nights (we had booked and paid for 9) Marcia asked that we leave a tip for the maid - somewhat surprising since we had no maid service, clean towels or bedding and in fact didn't ever see the maid once during our stay. Plus we paid for a full 9 nights (and didn't expect a refund) - but still asked to tip the elusive maid.
Another heads-up for guests: the living room is a make-shift clothing boutique and every seating surface is covered in clothes. Sitting anywhere than in your small room is not an option.
