The Space

Retreat by the Feale is 3 bed bungalow situated in Finuge with 2 private rooms available, double and/or twin room. It is situated a short distance from the famous River Feale, which is an excellent salmon fishing river. Salmon Fishing Licences can be acquired locally if you wish to partake in the activity of angling.

It is situated 2 miles from the famous literary & heritage town of Listowel. Listowel is famous for its Writers Week and Listowel Races & ideal touring base for Kerry. The property has been recently renovated to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation for your stay. The nearest beach is Ballybunion which has 2 blue flags, is about 9 miles away, or if you prefer a golden long sandy beach, why not take a spin to Banna Beach, also a blue flag holder, well worth a visit here if you want to take in a spectacular sunset on your visit.

The property is 17 miles from Tralee which is about 25 min drive and Killarney is about a 50 min drive. Kerry Airport is located about 40 mins away, which is served by Ryanair for UK & European destinations and Aer Lingus Regional for Dublin for onward travel, so ideal for making a connection via Dublin Airport if you are travelling from any US destination. Car Hire is available also at Kerry airport from various companies including Hertz, Avis etc. Shannon Airport is located approx 1 hour and 15 mins from the property.

The Village where the property is located is Finuge which is a traditional Irish crossroads village with a pub, Teach Siamsa and a G.A.A. pitch. Sheehan's Thatched House located at Finuge Cross is regarded as one of the oldest surviving authentic thatched houses in Ireland. Conservation experts estimate it at least 300 years old. In the summer months (weather permitting) traditional cross roads dancing takes place outdoors at the Anglers Rest Pub, this is well worth a visit as its a once in a lifetime experience!!

Numerous festivals take place in Kerry local to the property during the year, notably Listowel Writers Week, Listowel Races, Sean Mc Carthy Memorial Weekend to name but a few. There is numerous restaurants in Listowel to cater for every taste. Traditional Irish Music takes place in some local pubs, details of which can be given to guests on their arrival, these are well worth a visit for a bit of Ceoil & Craic! Also worth a visit in Listowel is Seanchai, the Kerry Writers Museum, here you can learn all about Listowel's Literary Greats like J.B. Keane, Bryan McMahon, George Fitzmaurice to name a few. Further a field in Tralee you will find the Aqua Dome, a great place to take the kids on a rainy afternoon! Dingle is a mear 50 min drive which can be got to via scenic route of the Connor Pass, well worth a visit and of course the town itself with its most famous resident, Fungi the Dolphin, perhaps if you are lucky when you take this boat trip he will pop up and say smile in his own unique way! The town of Killarney is one hour away approx and also worth a days visit with all it has to offer with the Lakes, Ross Castle, Muckross House and may more attractions.

We stayed one night with Dee and found her to be a friendly and pleasant host. Our room was large and comfortable and the property is in a nice area in a semi rural location with parking available right outside the door.
Breakfast was great and we have no hesitation in recommending Dee to future guests.

  • Dee welcomed us to her home for a brief stay overnight in early June. We spent a pleasant evening with her in her living room, initially because the WiFi reception was better there than in our double room. She made us a tasty big Irish breakfast in the morning and gave us helpful tips about exploring the Dingle Peninsula, the next stop on our itinerary on the way to Killarney. We enjoyed the quiet of Dee's home but our itinerary did not permit us to do much exploring in the Finuge/Listowel area. We initially missed the turn for Dee's house and stopped at the local pub to ask directions. The lady there hopped in her car and said, "Follow me down the road," so if she and Dee are good examples, the local people are very friendly and helpful.

  • We stayed for one night at Dee's home. We had the double-bed room. In the morning Dee made us some eggs, bacon and toast. We also got cereals, juice and tea. She recommended us a nice beach for an evening walk. The local pub is not far away.

  • Dee´s place although simple, is clean comfortable and quiet. She was very hospitable and friendly and cooked us up an amazing fry-up breakfast which tied us over for quite some time! There is not much in the nearby area but if you have a car then it is no problems.

  • Dee was very helpful and gave us good recommendations for dinner and music in town.

She also gave us more than enough space and the house was nice.

The only little problem was that the Wi-Fi wasn't available in our room, but it worked just fine in the living room and kitchen.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful time during our stay with Dee, from the amazing breakfasts to the great conversation, and fantasticmtime at the local pub which was walking distance away.
Her location, while not in a main cty, was very easy to find and was very close to Listowel, Tralee, and an easy drive to Dingle.
Dee is a great host, and we hope to be staying with her again soon, ifshe will have us. Dont leave without knowing she is an amazing musician, and treated us to a wonderful flute solo!!

  • Dee was a terrific host, very generous with the use of her very nice house and its amenities (specifically TV and WiFi) and in the morning she cooked us a delicious, more-than-ample, full Irish breakfast. Easygoing and fun, we had some great conversations in the short time we were at Dee's charming house in the tiny hamlet of Finuge.
