It is a gem indeed! The garden is an oasis where birds bathe in the two fountains. We ate oranges picked right from the tree. And the smell of lavender! The house is lovely with all its Mexican folk art. It is spacious and comfortable. January was cold in San Miguel this year, yet we never felt it in the house. We spent much time working on the patio basking in the sunshine.
Granted, the house is in a working-class neighbourhood where dogs bark, children play and firecrackers explode. But they are the sounds of Mexican life. Walking the 25 min. downtown was good exercise and we always felt safe walking back at night.
Enrique, the house manager, is fantastic. He is discreet, attentive and very patient with people trying their Spanish on him. Once he brought herbal tea from the market to ease a cough I had.
Gary has been a great guide of San Miguel. He emailed us recommendations for concerts, art shows and restaurants. He was always prompt to answer any questions we had.
We loved our stay in this house that became our home for 6 weeks. We definitely recommend it to people who want to experience all aspects of San Miguel. Thanks Gary and Henrique!
The drive to house makes you wonder if you are headed to the right place. When we opened the front gate my mother likened it to the part in Wizard of Oz where it goes from black and white to color. The gardens were amazing and the house was amazing. The pictures are quite accurate.
The neighborhood is not central but it is an easy walk downhill to catch a cab and most cab drivers know the street calle Carolina. Calling a cab is a bit more difficult. The neighborhood seems a bit rough around the edges but once you get past the wandering dogs and potholes
and start walking around it is quite charming.
We didn't need much help from the on site management but it felt nice knowing if we needed anything he was there.
San Miguel is a sweet pueblo. I enjoyed my stay there but as a city girl who loves DF I did get a bit bored. But that's just me, my mom really enjoyed herself. :)
The house was very clean, beautifully decorated, and a short cab ride to the center. Enrique the property manager was very friendly and responsive. We would definitely stay here again and recommend doing so to our friends.
Wow, what a property, such a nice place, exactly what we needed for my family. My two nieces chose the room on top because of the TV; Layna and I took the master with the king size and my sister and my brother-in-law took the third bedroom. We made breakfast everyday and a couple of dinners, which is a great deal for a large family. SMA was unseasonably cold, so we will have to go back and try again during the summer.
Thanks so much to Gary and Katia, and special thanks to Enrique who was so kind to us making our stay even better. Highly recommended.
The place was great! Comfortable, and beautiful. Getting into downtown was very easy for its location. Gary was great arranging things for us, and Enrique was amazing at receiving us.
Seriously, this beats staying in an overpriced hotel any day. The house was gorgeous - great handicrafts decor details, including a vaulted ceiling in the bathroom! It's not in the most central area of San Miguel so this is best with a car, or the ability/desire to walk a ways before getting to the town center. However, it's totally worth it. Great manicured patio, wonderful furnishings, and overall a super nice space. We'll be recommending it to others and staying here again, as it's so relaxing to feel removed from the hubbub yet a 5 minute drive to all the action. HIGHLY recommend. Thanks Katia and Gary - congrats on the cool house.
Amazing place. I'm from Mexico and I have been to San Miguel de Allende several times and can definitely say that staying here just adds to the experience of this magical Mexican place. Enrique was super nice and very helpful. Me and my friends had a wonderful time, and I'm sure half of the photos from this trip were just from around this house.
My friends and I traveled to San Miguel to celebrate our husbands' birthday!
First off, Gary sent us a lot of information of what to do and where to go in the city and out. This was super helpful, I have been there a couple of times before and never went to any of those places. Huge help to discovering new treasures. I called Enrique so that he could know at what time to expect us, super super friendly! Enrique you rock!!! He helped us in so many ways, we couldn´t thank him enough as we left.
The house... oh the house is gorgeous! The decoration is stunning! We went to town looking for some of the pieces we found there. Beautiful house, super spacious, great place to hang out and relax. Gary and Katia thanks so much for letting us stay here, we will be coming back to your place for a looooonger holiday.
thank you soooo much for letting us stay at your magical place! it´s really wonderful! even though it was such a short trip, we enjoyed every corner of your house. Also many thanks to Enrique! he is so polite and friendly and we were too comfortable! Once again, many thanks Gary and Katia, and congratulations for having that wonderful house!
The pictures they provided are all day time views. which only tells half of the story. We arrived at night, Enrique left the lights on and it is Gorgeous!
They also have some novel and hardcover books so you can just spend a relaxing day at the house.
Gary is very helpful during the trip planning stage. He sent us suggestions of to do and to eat. We tried the Ole Ole he suggested and it is really awesome. Hot spring is fun too. (we would not have found Ole Ole on our own!!)
Enrique is super nice and very helpful. He would drive us around to oxxo, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.
The location of this house is not downtown downtown, but you get to have a house all by yourself, and it is quite and relaxing.
It is at a very affordable price too. The nice hotel at downtown goes from $200- $350 per night.
Thanks again. Gary and Enrique!
