The Space

Ditch the sterile hotel room for a tranquil garden cottage in the heart of Sacramento. If you are here for business, vacation, graduation, a UC Davis related stay or just passing thru, this wonderful house will meet your needs. Offering a comfortable 2 bedroom home that sleeps up to 6, with a full cook's kitchen, living and bathroom. House is appointed with a a cozy-contemporary style. Eat-in-kitchen features Bosch appliances: fridge, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and Kenmore electric/induction stove. Fully accessorized kitchen with cooking and dishware, also features Multi-Pure water filter. Stone tile bathroom features spacious walk-in shower with rain shower head and underfloor heating. Bedrooms features a queen size bed in one bedroom and two single beds in the other, and includes top of the line linen, bedding and towels. The living rooms is cozy and offers seating for 6, plus additional sleeping for two on a sleeper sofa. There is a work area in living for those here on business. The joy of the house is the covered patio with outdoor seating for dinning and relaxing, overlooking a magical and expansive vegetable and flower garden for your pleasure. The garden includes urban chickens, and on occasion there are eggs and veggies to spare.

This tranquil neighborhood is walking distance (3-5 blocks) from the best Sacramento has to offer, including Historic R Street commercial corridor, Safeway Market and shopping plaza, Midtown dinning, the Capital, and a 2 minute drive from the landmark Tower Theater. Three blocks away from lightrail if you want to be car free. Driveway parking is available those driving in.

Guests have access to the entire house, driveway for parking, and back patio for relaxing and dining. Also, guests are free to explore and enjoy the garden.

I am typically available if you have questions. I am occupied from 9-5 from M-F, but you might catch me on the weekend. I am more than happy to interact and chat with guests, but I am also fine giving guests their space.

This neighborhood is very convenient. It's close to dinning, shopping, entertainment, parks and touristy activities, with the added advantage of being in a quiet residential block dotted with victorians and craftsman houses. If you decide to leave you car at home, you can manage fine here. There are many restaurants within a 10-15min walk from house, including coffee shops and other shopping. The Safeway super market is about 4 blocks away and Rite Aid pharmacy is 6 blocks away. The house is three blocks from the light station which is an easy link to the downtown Amtrak Station. Bicycling is also an easy way to get around since Sacramento is pretty much flat.

  • I can't say enough about what a great place this was to stay. Very cute, clean, comfortable and a great location. Everything was exactly as it says it is. Communication between myself and Raymond was easy, clear and concise. Although we never saw each other in person, Raymonds hospitality and concern for our comfort was clearly known and much appreciated. I was traveling with my father and with him being older and set in his ways he was a bit reluctant with the Airbnb concept. He was quickly won over and felt very comfortable in the cottage. I missed my flight connection and arrived a day after my father checked in and he immediately began our conversation when I arrived, gushing about how great the place was. I would definitely come back when visiting this area again. A+!!

  • This was an amazing home for us. We wanted to show our guests from Australia how to "live like a local". This home is perfect! It has everything you could ever eggs! Raymond was there to greet us and give us a tour of the home. I would stay here again and tell my friends about it, too!

  • The host Raymond is very engaging, friendly and helpful. He even gave us the eggs from his chicken coop in the back yard. The place was excellent!! very clean, modern decor, comfortable bed and the patio is designed for relaxation. Shower is Tops!! The place is located in a quiet neighborhood close to food and drinks and the capitol. There were four in my party and it accomodated us very well.

  • What a lovely place! We really enjoyed our weekend in Raymond's place. The house was just as described, incredibly clean and thoughtfully decorated. And the bathroom is a special bonus, with a luxurious rain shower and smooth river stone floor. The back patio was a lovely place to hang out in the evening and our 2 year old loved making round after round of the garden and seeing the chickens. Then throw fresh eggs into the equation and how can you lose.

Oh and the house ideally located walking distance from lots of delicious food, and just 2 miles from old town.

If we ever need to visit Sacramento again I'll check first to see if this place is available, anywhere else would be disappointing.

  • Raymond is a wonderful host. I could not have had a more relaxing and comfortable stay. The house is lovely, and had everything we needed. I truly appreciated the beauty of the garden as well. I hope to stay here any time I come to Sacramento.

  • Raymond was the perfect host, we visited with him, spent a good deal of time in the garden with the urban chickens and had a drink on the patio with his delightful mother and friend. The house was as described in the listing, comfortable, clean and well appointed. The fresh chicken eggs for breakfast were a hit.
The neighborhood is very leafy and quiet and within walking distance from some very good restaurants and public transport.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Raymond's urban oasis! The house was beautifully decorated and well-appointed; the garden and chickens are SO charming; and the location was walkable to midtown restaurants and bars. We will be back! Thank you!

  • We stayed two nights at Raymond's and wished it could have been longer. The house was charming, clean, and so comfortable to come back to after a day's sightseeing. We really enjoyed the back yard garden and the chickens. The garden is beautiful, and the 'girls' would come up to their fence and talk to us whenever we appeared out the back door. Raymond was terrific. We enjoyed visiting with him, and plus he had a long and fascinating list of suggestions of things we could have done if only we had scheduled our stay longer. The house was exactly as described in the ad, the beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom and rain shower were great. We didn't get to walk around the neighborhood much, but we would love to come back and next time do some of the things on Raymond's list.

  • I've stayed at this cottage before. Clean, safe, and private. I love the private backyard oasis. A garden complete with chickens. Close to downtown. I ran every morning around the capital.

  • The house was exactly as listed and better. A lot of thoughtful little details and top of the line equipment made our stay truly comfortable. The heated floors in the bathroom and the hardwood in most of the rest of the house were really a plus. Raymond was a thoughtful host, on call for any questions about the area or the house whenever we needed. The house is in walking distance of almost everything in Sacramento and the garden was a great place to sit out in the afternoons and evenings. I definitely would stay here again if I came to Sacramento.

Hi, my name is Raymond and this is my home and I share it with my partner. I manage the rental house and the garden. I have lived is sunny Sacramento for 10 years. I am originally from New Jersey, and lived in New York City for long time before relocating to California. I grew up in a multi-lingual family and I speak Spanish and Portuguese in addition to English. I also understand a little bit of Italian, I am the son of an Italian father and Argentine mother. I enjoy meeting people from other part of the USA and the world, and look forward to sharing my home with visitors on their journey. I, myself, love to travel and try to go abroad at least once a year. I am very familiar with Latin America and Southern Europe. From traveling and staying in family run accommodations I have learned some insight on what makes travelers comfortable and try to provide that here. I am an urban planner and designer by practice and training, and consult on urban planning issues in the Sacramento area. I love art, music and the physical city, including buildings and gardens, from the small to the monumental. I also enjoy nature and try to take advantage of all the wonderful beauty that California has to offer. The house tries to honer the environment and has many non-toxic and environmentally friendly features, when possible. The garden also strives to be organic, with no chemicals and many permaculture techniques. The chickens are mostly organic, minus the weekly dose of old scones from a local cafe. There's always a surplus of eggs here, and fresh eggs for breakfast is one of the perks of this Garden Cottage. If you stay, you may run into my mom Eunice who tends the Garden. She's turning 80 this year, and she's a certified jokester, and always enjoys meeting new people.
