This neighborhood is very convenient. It's close to dinning, shopping, entertainment, parks and touristy activities, with the added advantage of being in a quiet residential block dotted with victorians and craftsman houses. If you decide to leave you car at home, you can manage fine here. There are many restaurants within a 10-15min walk from house, including coffee shops and other shopping. The Safeway super market is about 4 blocks away and Rite Aid pharmacy is 6 blocks away. The house is three blocks from the light station which is an easy link to the downtown Amtrak Station. Bicycling is also an easy way to get around since Sacramento is pretty much flat.
Also, I typically request a 2 night minimum, but if you see a gap on the calendar and need the place for one night please ask and I will see if I can accommodate you.
Entire house and back patio.

There are few house rules, mostly regarding the kitchen. The stove is induction and is easily operable by using the touch screen to increase or decrease the temperature. We have pots that work with induction range top in the pot rack over the clothe washer. The oven is normal electric oven. The water from the fridge is filtered. The clothes washer and dish washer take eco-friendly soap and they take half the amount indicated on the box, there is scooper with a mark to show you how much. Both are high water efficiency models and work with less soap or they tend to gum up the machines. The temperature of the house is automatically regulated. In the winter I keep the house at 70 degrees and in the summer at 68 degrees. If you're uncomfortable with the temperature, it can be raised or lowered, but I ask that you keep the environment and the energy bills in mind if you do that. If you do change the temperature, return it to normal before heading out for the day etc. And try to keep the front and back doors shut to conserve energy. No loud music or noise after 10:00pm since it's a quiet residential neighborhood and I want to respect my neighbors. If you want loud entertainment, there's plenty 3 blocks away. We compost at the house, and all veggie/fruit kitchen scraps can be placed in compost bin under the sink. The kitchen trash is also located under the sink and recycle waste container is next to the dryer. When you check-in I can go over the TV and internet access.
Registered guests only, please. No overnight visitors, parties, etc., without prior Owner approval.
Raymond welcomed us when we got there. He showed us around the house and his beautiful back yard. The house had almost everything that we needed and it was extremely clean!! Raymond also offered us fresh eggs from the chickens in his back yard. Also, the location of the house is great! It was only a few minutes away from the restaurants and stores. Raymond recommended some very delicious restaurants for us. I would leave here again next time when I come to Sacramento :D
Our host Raymond was welcoming and helpful. The home was exactly as listed, the fresh chicken eggs were a nice bonus! The neighborhood was quiet and quit lovely. Great restaurants and entertainment nearby, we even walked to a wonderful yoga studio one day. Sacramento is great little town.
It's the second time we have stayed at Raymond's, and we are staying again in August.
Each time Raymond makes us feel like family.
It is in a perfect location--close to the freeway, in a quiet neighbourhood, within walking distance of the downtown and its surroundings.
This was our second stay at the Garden Cottage. It is a very pleasant and comfortable home convenient to downtown Sacramento. The sitting area in the rear garden is very pleasant in the evening. Raymond is an excellent host supplying eggs, apricots, and good conversation during our visit. Our go-to place for Sacramento.
This was our first Air experience and the hubby was very skeptical about how "this" would work. Suffice it to say that after day 3 of our week-long stay he was hooked. Raymond is friendly, knowledgeable and pays attention to every little detail. The cottage is absolutely charming, clean and stocked with lots of extras. The outdoor patio and garden is an oasis with the cutest hardworking chickens (thanks for the yummy fresh eggs)! Raymond directed us to several outdoor Farmer's Markets and a variety of restaurants that are within walking distance. This stay exceeded our expectations and the bar has been set high for future airbnb hosts. Gracias y un abrazo!
We stayed at Raymond's house for one week and totally loved the place. House is a two bedroom that is typical of the downtown Sacramento area. Neighborhood was friendly and safe with a number of good restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. Try South restaurant ((website hidden))...it was our favorite. Furnishings and kitchen are totally set up and ready to go for an extended stay. I stayed with my family (three adults and two toddlers) and we really felt at home. We loved the garden...perfect for a relaxing glass of wine and exciting for the kids to explore. Fresh eggs in the morning were awesome! Raymond was an incredible host, checking to see that we had everything we needed and offering his advice on the local area. Bottom line is that this will be our first choice if we get back to Sacramento!
Charming, comfortable and by far one of the best places I have stayed. The garden was such a peaceful place to sit in the morning and evening - the chickens a joy to listen to in the background rustling and clucking.
All of that plus a fantastic location that was walkable to great food and good for a morning stroll.
Raymond is also very charming and helpful.....particularly with restaurant recommendations!
See you again soon!
About the Host, Raymond
Hi, my name is Raymond and this is my home and I share it with my partner. I manage the rental house and the garden. I have lived in sunny Sacramento for over 10 years. I am originally from New Jersey, and lived in New York City for a long time before relocating to California. I grew up in a multi-lingual family and I speak Spanish and Portuguese in addition to English. I also understand a little bit of Italian, I am the son of an Italian father and Argentine mother. I enjoy meeting people from other parts of the USA and the world, and look forward to sharing my home with visitors on their journey.
I, myself, love to travel and try to go abroad at least once a year. I am very familiar with Latin America and Southern Europe. From traveling and staying in family run accommodations I have learned some insight on what makes travelers comfortable and try to provide that here.
I am an urban planner and designer by practice and training, and consult on urban planning issues in the Sacramento area. I love art, music and the physical city, including buildings and gardens, from the small to the monumental. I also enjoy nature and try to take advantage of all the wonderful beauty that California has to offer. The house tries to honor the environment and has many non-toxic and environmentally friendly features. The garden also strives to be organic, with no chemicals and many permaculture techniques. The chickens are mostly organic, minus the occasional dose of old scones from a local cafe. There is often a surplus of eggs here, and fresh eggs for breakfast is one of the perks of this Garden Cottage. If you stay, you may run into my mom Eunice who tends the Garden. She's a vivacious 80-something certified jokester, and always enjoys meeting new people.
