The review written by Madeline Marshall was written after I was forced to abruptly terminate her stay in my home. She brought a dog in my home without my permission. My listing clearly states that I have dogs on the property. I was upset by the fact that her dog could have been aggressive towards my dogs or visa-versa since they had not been properly introduced. Her dog was not crated and was left running loose in my home. The dog did urinate on my wood floors. Also, my air conditionioner was decreased by Madeline to 70 degrees and was left running that low for several hours while no one was home. It was cloudy, raining and the outdoor temperature had dropped significantly that night, so running the air conditioner at that level was unecessary. My home was constructed in 2013 and was designed by architect by Brett Grinkmeyer. It is very energy efficient/green built and is a smart home. I can control many things such as the thermostat remotely. During the summer, the lowest that I have had to adjust the thermostat to is 74 degrees. I will have to be honest here and say that this is my fourth home in Austin and I have never had to lower the thermostat down to 70 degrees. The house is a very modern and eclectic. Several TV commercials and MTV shows have been filmed in my living room and kitchen. My furniture/decor is eclectic and modern Danish. All of my reviews regarding décor have been positive. In fact, very recently, a guest stated "Lu, I'm a little bit obsessed with your house. The kitchen and bathroom are sick and loved being amongst all the artwork. Hope to make it back some day!" Some of the pictures previoiusly shown were professionally shot by the builder and were featured on AirBnb because I had not moved into the home just yet. The other pictures displayed are ones that I took with my personal camera. My AirBnb listing clearly states that this rental is for private rooms. For those who are new to AirBnb, this means that you are renting a room in a home where someone lives. My listing does not state that the rental is for the entire home. This would mean that the owner is not present. I am rarely home which makes this an ideal rental. The East Side of Austin has been experiencing gentrification for many years. This is due to the 4000 people that are moving to Austin monthly. The East Side is one of THE most desirable parts of Austin to live in, especially if you are a young professional, musician, student or artist. So, you will notice very modern homes mixed with an array of older homes. My home sits beside a very cute remodeled bungalow home and on the other side is a clean duplex. My home is very safe, is fenced in and has a very sophisticated security system. I am a female and do not feel unsafe in my home or anywhere that I am out on the East Side. My home is very clean as I have maid and yard service weekly. The homes in the suburbs of Austin do look more alike and there is less variation than seen on the East Side. My home is considered to be located in downtown as I am only 1 mile from I 35. I am one house down from zip code 78702. All of the information regarding distances to attractions that I have detailed in my listing is accurate and was obtained via (website hidden) Maps. Getting to and from the airport is very convenient as you only have to get on one street, Airport Blvd. to get there. It is a straight shot and is 5 miles. Getting a cab is extremely easy as they are constantly running up and down Airport Blvd. making their way to and from the airport. The Capital Metro bus stop is less than 100 yards from my home. We also have Car 2 Go, UBER, and LYFT in Austin. I use UBER, LYFT and Austin HAIL- A- CAB apps frequently to go downtown or to the airport. These apps will allow you to get a ride usually within a 7 minute timeframe. East 6th street, where all of the action starts, is very close to the house and is 0.5 miles away. The restaurants and bars on Manor Road are only 1.3 miles away. Also, the light rail station is 0.5 miles away from the house. Going downtown only requires that you make one left turn on Airport Blvd. and a right onto 12th Street. So, getting to where all of the action is, is a snap. I do have two white labs that are very well behaved. They are not allowed to roam the house when I have guests. They are confined to the air conditioned back mud room which has a baby gate and doggy door so that they can come and go as they please. It does not rain often in Austin. When it does, they do come in to the mud room to escape the rain, thunder and lightning. I do keep their hair very short and they are well groomed. Clyde is my 13 year old and Master P is a year and a half old. My listing clearly states that there are dogs on the property. There are many reviews that positively mention my dogs. I am an artist and I frequently exhibit in Austin. A lot of my pieces and those of others are displayed in my home at times. At times, the walls may be bare if I am using these pieces for exhibit. I do currently have a painting hanging which is my show poster version for the 1970’s Italian movie “Suor Omicidi”. This means “Killer Nun”. I am a huge fan of old movie/show/music posters and this painting was created in the spirit of cartoonist Gary Larson. This painting can be seen on my website and it will be exhibited at the upcoming East Austin Studio tour. I guess the only thing that could be considered as “vulgar” is that she does have a very red round cartoon like breast that is exposed below her cut off t-shirt that reads “sexy”. This movie is a cult classic and it was thrilling for me to try and depict what I thought the show poster for this movie should have looked like. The only other art piece in my home that might be considered as “vulgar” would be a colorful abstract pen-and-ink drawing that well known artist Jaleah Kuehmichel created. You can see more of her work at Austin’s Canopy Studio. I am a fan of nudes, but not in the traditional sense. This piece is very abstract and is not obvious at first glance. It is of the female sexual organ. It is hanging in the guest bathroom on the wall behind the door. My advice to folks who are new to AirBnb is to please read the details of the listing and the reviews. I personally use AirBnb for travel and would never rent a room from someone without reading the listing details and the reviews. They are very helpful when trying to pick out a great place to stay.
