This flat is my tiniest and the best located.
It's cosy, newly refurbished, fully equipped, very centrical, in the middle of the action, the ideal option for a couple of travelers on a budget.
I like it very much, but don't expect the Ritz.
The flat is located in the very center of Paris, north of Le Marais, in the middle of the trendy, lively and bobo area of Canal St Martin.
This area is filled with terraces, cafés, restaurants, live music bars and trendy shops.
Although trendy, the area still offers very reasonable prices.
It is a fantastic option to discover the real Parisian life, far from the touristy clichés, with good customized tips and recommendations.
The flat is 5 mn cycling or 10mn walking from Opera Bastille, the cemetery Père Lachaise, Place des Vosges, Centre Pompidou, Musée Picasso and the romantic Parc des Buttes Chaumont. There is a bike station at the foot of the building.
Its metro station République is a major hub counting the majority of the lines, which is key in Paris to avoid changes. Direct lines to Champs Elysées, Opéra, Eiffel Tower, Hotel de Ville and Gare du Nord train station (CDG and Orly airports, Eurostar to London, Thalys to Amsterdam and Brussels) are very convenient, especially for tourists.
The area counts all the amenities, with traditional butcher, bakery, cheesemonger, fishmarket, quality grocery store, organic food shop, wine cellar, supermarket, take-aways, and open air markets, all this 5mn walk from the flat.
There is a gym and two swimming pools nearby, one of which with gardens and solarium.
Well, I cannot write everything here, I am so enthusiastic about my neighborhood!
I will gladly provide you with a booklet of all my personal recommendations and tips for going out, in the neighborhood as well as in other parts of the city which are worth it. I live a few blocks from this flat.
THE FLAT ITSELF
The architecture of the flat itself is typically Parisian, the building used to be a horse barn in the times when the boats on the canal were pulled by horses. The flat is a studio, meaning it counts only one room, with a sofa converting into a queen size bed. A large window gives onto a quiet courtyard, and counts a double glazing to ensure you sleep quietly. It is on the ground floor, no heavy luggage to carry in the stairs.
COMMODITIES IN THE FLAT
It counts all the commodities needed for a couple of travelers:
- queen size bed, with fresh linens and duvet
- a complete though small bathroom with shower, toilets, basin, hairdryer and clean towels
- a kitchenette with electric stoves, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee machine, boiler, toaster, utensils to cook etc.
- strong, fast and reliable Internet box
The building is digitally protected and counts two entrance doors with magnetic pass, and the flat counts an armoured door with safety system. The area is very safe anyway.
The flat is on the ground floor and gives onto thr private courtyard, not on the street, it is thus safe and quiet.
- sheets and towels
- fast & reliable wifi internet in the flat
- a whole list of my personal addresses, tips and recommendations
- a cleaning lady if you don’t want to clean the flat yourselves
- a smiling welcome
YOU PROVIDE (by order of priority)
- your smile
- your enthusiasm
- your money

Small studio but it has everything you need. Comfortable mattress and a great shower. Odile and Matt were great hosts - definitely read Matt's guide to the area! He has some great recommendations. Like Matt said it's not the Ritz, but it is a great choice for two people in a vibrant area. I'd definitely stay here again.
A big thank you to Odile for hosting me over the New Years!!
The apartment is ideally located for great restaurants, shopping and easy Metro access.
The hosts were prompt and available for any questions. The apartment is charming and petite with all of the necessary accoutrements needed to refresh between Parisian excursions. I would love to stay at the apartment again sometime soon!
All the best, Courtney
Odille and Matt were really helpful and the place is exactly as the describe. You can hop on the metro really easy and there are sime great resto's and cafes in the neighborhood as well.
Petit appartement mais idéalement situé. Bonne communication avec les propriétaires.
It's a bed, the location is pretty good, and the price is right.
If you are looking for a very cheap place to stay whit out any expectations this is ok, I will summarise the goods and the bads so you can make your own conclusions.
- Supermarket just in the corner
- Great bakeries, restaurants and places to run very near
- Trendy area
- Metro is Close
- Odile was helpful
- Internet Good
- Basic kitchen appliances
- When I made the booking I realised of some things a bout the flat and emailed Matt to cancel the same day, but he was not helpful at all. I asked three times and at the end he ignored my emails
- The flat was a bit smelly. The cleaning was superficial and not that great. When I cleaned the toiled the brown colour went away.
- Entrance to the building, dirty,. full of dust, leaves and bits of garbage.
- Its on the first floor so if you had the window open everybody could see you. In the summer this might be very uncomfortable.
- The sofa bed, was uncomfortable, after 5 days there I had back pains
- The price advertised is not accurate, because once you make the selection and the booking increases it price
- At check out, Odile arranged to come a 7.45 and at 8.10 they haven't showed up or called. I have to ring and they told me just to leave the keys on the flat, no apologies or anything. As I was in a rush I forgot to leave the keys, but managed to send them by post from Gare Du Nord Stn.
- There are no hangers, or anywhere to put your clothes, if you are tidy and like to keep your clothes unwrinkled, this will be a nightmare. I had to buy hangers and hang the clothes from the curtain rail
- No iron or ironing board.
I will never stay in this place again and do not recommend it to anyone. There are better places around and you should not let this place spoil your stay in paris.
Terribly sorry that you had such a bad experience. However, your review is not honest. I have been responding to all your concerns. You did not want to cancel to avoid being penalized. Cleaning is made by professionals. The flat gives onto a private courtyard, not on the street. The bed has a premium mattress. Price is managed automatically by airbnb, price varies when airbnb integrates its fee. And you always see what you pay before booking. All this said, indeed, sadly, it is not the Ritz.
I had a wonderful stay in Paris! This studio was perfect for my needs. It's situated in the charming area of Canal St Martin, right by the canal and it's just across the bridge from where 2 of my friends are currently living. The space is small, but cute & clean w-a comfortable bed. The bathroom is quite little, but so am I, so it was fine. It might feel cramped for two and there isn't much of a view. The kitchen is nice and there is a coffee maker & Nespresso machine. It's just the place if you are planning to spend most of your time out & about, but want a cozy place to sleep. Overall, I recommend it for anyone wanting to feel like a true Parisian. I would go back!
This apartment was a very good base for a week exploring Paris.
Sure, the building isn't the prettiest but the apartment was comfortable and functional enough in a charming bachelor-pad way. It's a little rough-around-the-edges so it might not be the best option if you're trying to impress your girlfriend/wife with a romantic getaway (Matt has other more suitable apartments for this) but if you're on a tight budget and want to be smack bang in the middle of one of Paris' coolest and non-touristy areas full of great (but reasonably priced) restaurants and hip bars then this is a great choice for you. I'm neither young or hip but I love the vibe of this laid-back arty neighborhood, it's authentic and lively without being raucous or brash. There is a supermarket, three great restaurants (if you like Asian, you must try Cambodge) and a cool bar yards from the door and even more on the surrounding blocks. And there are two outstanding bakeries (Du Pain et des Idées) a short walk away on the other side of the canal.
Plus, the apartment is conveniently located for transport links to explore all of Paris. There are several Velib bike stations around the corner and République is just minutes away - a major metro hub so you can be anywhere in the city very quickly.
The apartment is small and quiet. Located on the ground floor is a bonus if you don't want to navigate stairs after a night on the tiles but the downside of just having one window that opens onto a courtyard (it's actually more of a passageway where the garbage bins are kept and random junk is stored) is that you don't get much natural light or ventilation without sacrificing some privacy. Not a big deal if you're out for most of the day but it did get a little 'stuffy' on cool spring days so I'm not sure how it would be on a hot summer's day.
The other minor 'cons' were the tight squeeze bathroom - if you're above average height (or have mobility issues) it's a little tricky maneuvering around and using key amenities with the door closed, although the shower was actually quite roomy with the adjustable shower head well above head height with plentiful hot water.
The place would also benefit from some hooks and rail to hang clothes and even a chest of drawers to put your stuff. Right now you can't really unpack and everything tends to end up on the floor. Not a big deal if you're only there for a few days but this could get annoying on longer stays.
The wifi was fast and reliable..
Matt made the booking process easy, provided lots of tips for the neighbourhood and was genuinely concerned we were enjoying our stay and was keen to receive our feedback in order to improve the apartment for his guests.
Early check-in and late check-out was also very much appreciated.
A recommendable rough diamond.
