Interaction with Guests
We are not the spot but we are in regular contact with our guest, have some one to help them there and provide them with useful addresses in Quito.
It is located in one of the most traditional quartiers of the historic center of Quito. The quartier is going thorough a process of renovation and revitalisation and artists and creatives are starting to move there.
Walking distance to historic center sights. It is only a few blocks from the Presidential Palace, near small supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, museums, Sucre theatre, and Quito beautiful churches. If you want to go to other parts of the city, you can take a taxi anywhere; they are very cheap.
Other Things to Note
Our doorman Segundo will be on the spot to help you
- Take good care of the flat
- Respect common spaces
- Respect the neighbours
- Do not smoke in the flat
- Use the cutting board on the kitchen, dont cut food directly on the kitchen furniture
- If possible, try not to walk with high heels on the wooden floor
The flat was fantastic and highly recommended as a base from which to explore the old town. The view of the old city is incredible and the flat is very stylish.
Segundo, the concierge, was very useful. He booked us a cab in the morning. Marco sent us a great listing of restaurants and things to do in the old town, which was very useful. Marco checked in with us when we arrived to check that everything was ok. We didn't get a chance to use the jacuzzi but would have done if we had more time! The area felt safe to us and we didn't have any problems walking to and from the flat. Everything was as described in the listing.
This property has been the best Airbnb experience for me so far. My wife and I were to stay here for 2 separate stints, but we had to cancel out one because of our flight getting cancelled. And we were really sad about it. Marco and Iciar are the perfect hosts who went above and beyond to give us every little details about the place, touring around in Quito, exploring restaurants in this area and what not.
The apartment is just amazing with breath-taking views of Quito and has everything one needs to stay comfortably and more. Our hosts were so nice to stock the kitchen with tea, coffee, and even fresh fruits before our arrival. What more can you ask for.
Anyways, the pictures and description of the listing tell it all and all I can say that I would not once think twice about going back and staying at this place.
Marco was a great host. Though he was out of town, he ensured that the doorman, Segundo, was informed of my travel details for which he was very helpful. Marco also arranged my travel from the airport to the apartment which I would recommend to everyone arriving late at night.
The apartment is very special---clean, open space with great natural light and acoustics. It has an amazing balcony with a view of El Panicello and Old Town Quito. The full kitchen was perfect for all my cooking needs. Marco even arranged for Segundo to have some fresh fruit and bottled water waiting for me. The Wifi was reliable and running at 1.5 mbs throughout my stay.
I also had a late departure flight and Marco allowed me to stay late in the apartment so I didn't have to sit in the airport all day which was greatly appreciated!
The place was amazing. It looked even better than the pictures. The hosts gave us so much information even on things to do in the area which we loved! I would only want to stay here when going to Quito. The view was also incredible as well as the extremely helpful doorman.
El apartamento no es como se ve, ¡sino mejor! El trato fue verdaderemente exquisito.
We just returned from a great 5 day trip to Quito, in which we stayed in Marco Campaña’s apartment in the Historic District.
This is a spectacular apartment in a secure, renovated historic building. The architecture is stunning, with exposed beams and rafters, new wood floors upstairs, beautiful tile floors downstairs, and giant windows looking out over breathtaking views of the city. I must have taken 30 or 40 photographs from the balcony to try to capture the views in the constantly changing light. The kitchen is nicely appointed with an electric stove and oven, big refrigerator, and plenty of counter space to prepare food. A nice sized glass table seats 4 easily, and looks out over a beautiful courtyard and off into the mountains. There are plenty of dishes, pots and pans, and silverware, and Marco graciously stocked the cabinet with freshly ground coffee, as well as pears, apples, and bananas. We had Turkish coffee and fruit salad for breakfast every morning, thanks to Marco! (There’s a coffee maker, but we prefer Turkish coffee.)
Other details: the bed was very comfortable, with plenty of blankets to stay warm, and the bathrooms were clean, with nice fixtures and a great shower. Plenty of closet space, too. There’s a jacuzzi, but we didn’t use it. Segundo, the superintendent is friendly and helpful. The apartment is an easy walk to restaurants, museums, and cathedrals, and is in the heart of the historic district. We loved exploring all the streets, but be prepared for the steepest city hills you’ve ever walked! By the way, we came in March and found Quito chilly, especially in the mornings, so bring warm clothes.
If we come back to Quito, we won't spend 10 seconds looking elsewhere for a place to stay. This would be my first, second, and third choice!
About the Host, Marco
I am an Ecuadorian art restaurator and contemporary artist. I have been working for many years restoring churches in Quito historic center.
When an arquitect friend showed us the project, we fell in love with the place. The atmosphere is magic and we can see many of the churches I restaured, from our room or when we are having breakfast.
I have also contributed to the interior design of the flat. I specially ordered the floor tiles from an old artisan in Ambato. He also made for us two stone lions that we placed in the house to protect it. This is why it is called: Casa de los leones. I designed the kitchen. I decorated the appartment with some of my works and some antique paintings. I have also have a small art room and atelier in the 1st floor where the works of art are on sale.
The flat is minimalistic in design and furniture. We just put there a few nice things. As we use it only when go on holidays, we have the basics for my family to feel confortable. We like to be surronded by beautiful things but not overloaded by objects. We have personally chosen all what is in the appartment for the family to enjoy. I hope you will like it as well.
My family and I we return as often as we can to our magic place in Quito.
We love art, culture, arquitecture and good food. We can help you to plan your trip and give you some hints about interesting things to visit, expos or give you tips about my favourite restaurants and places. We will help you to have a trip to Ecuador beyond the typical touristic circuits.
If you are an artistic person, you like contemporary art and design, arquitecture, antiques and exploring, this is the place for you. You will not be disappointed. Welcome to Casa de los leones!.
