The room was beautiful, quiet, a real refuge in Beirut's hectic day life. And it had a very good bed, which is of utmost importance for me. I enjoyed the large collection of music, which is there in the appartment, and the good audio equipment in my room. Moreover, the no. 4 bus runs just at the main street, 3 min. walk from the flat. It moves forth and back between the famous Hamra district and ad-Dahiyeh in South Beirut, passing by a number of spots where I had to go regularly, as well as the Serail hill, from which it is only 5 min. walk to the central district with the parliament, other important sites, and high edge restaurants.
The kitchen of the flat is well equipped. You shouldn't be too fanatic about cleanliness or aesthetics, when you want to stay at Amer's and Khodor's. Someone came to clean once two days after I arrived. The other two and a half weeks, no one really felt responsible, including me. That could, of course, easily be changed by few regulations. But I enjoyed not having to clean.
Internet was a problem during my stay, too: At first, it seemed, as if it had to be my problem, because Khodor and the other visitor accessed the web with apple products without any problem, while I am a microsoft user. So I started looking for a solution without avail. Later a guest came in using a microsoft laptop as well and had the same problems. After some time, Khodor found a solution. Then I did have wireless access, but it turned out that my room was too far from the router. So in order to have continuous internet access, I still had to go to the living room. Most of the days of my stay I could connect my laptop with a cable, though, working from the corridor. And that was, in fact, really cool: I spent much less time with internet activity in the evenings than usual and wrote diary instead, or listened to music or read a book.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, and that you enjoyed the bed since you were very worried about that (and so was I a little bit)! :)
I'm very surprised about the cleaning situation. A paid professional should clean all common rooms at least once a week, and guest's room directly before their arrival. I'm sorry that this was not brought to my attention during your stay as it could have been easily resolved and urge any future guest to contact me directly if something like this happens!
Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a nice and honest review, I'm sure future guests will be just as thankful.
Looking forward to getting the chance to host you again.
P.S. The internet problem is a surprisingly hard problem to solve in Lebanon.
Once it is solved, I will update the descriptions from:
• Internet and Wi-Fi
• Internet and Wi-Fi in all rooms throughout the apartment
A recommander.
Amer & Rami's place is nothing short of the ideal AirBnB apartment for Beirut. Located in the mixed and vibrant area of Ras an-Naaba, the apartment feels much more like a family house than a sanitized hotel room, with a plethora of family heirlooms, trinkets, photos and books in a variety of languages dotting the space. One room is larger than the other, but both are very comfortable, have desks and all the ammenities, and of course, A/C -- a must in the warmer months
While some might prefer to be closer to the tourist-friendly areas of Hamra or Gemmayze, in reality the apartment is only a 5-20 minute taxi or bus to these areas, and is very walkable to both as well. Both Hamra and Gemmayze can inflict a bubble-mentality on visitors, and staying and Rami & Amer's is the perfect way to get out of it, not to mention that this place undoubtedly provides the best value out of anywhere I saw in Beirut. I stayed there for just about a month, and was never once dissatisfied.
I never met Amer, but in all my communications with him he was helpful, conscientious, responsive and quick to reply to all my questions and concerns. Rami, who lives in the apartment, is a boss in every respect. He's a wealth of knowledge on the cultural life of Beirut, if you're into that thing, and was always open to my endless questioning on all things Lebanese.
I really couldn't say enough good things about this place, and staying there absolutely made my time in Beirut what it was. Just don't fill the place up -- I want to stay there when I go back.
Amer's apartment is quite a special place. You'll enter a real home, where you'll feel surrounded by some kind of a lebanese history: books everywhere will give you a glims of what arabic intellectual and literary heritage holds; old pictures and furniture will send you on a special journey to a past beiruty life.
The place is very accessible from any part of Beirut or Dahyeh. It's located in a neighborhood not only very central but mostly very lively and sincere. I was in the apartment during Ramadan where the streets and shops are enlightened and decorated just enough to make you feel how vivid the neighborhood is.
I did not get to meet Amer (who still made himself very much available to arrange my arrival) but I met his very good friend Khodor. If I stick to the saying ("tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are")... very nice and trustworthy guys, hospitality "lebanese-style" all the way.
Many thanks again!
Hope I'll be back.
I had a pleasant stay at Amer's apartment. Although he was not in Beirut at the time of my stay, he was always very easy to contact if needed. I was welcomed by his friend Khodor who was very friendly and helpful. I recommend Amer's apartment for anyone willing to discover Beirut and spend a couple of days or weeks with young lebanese people.
I have not met Amer but staying in his apartment for some weeks has been a great pleasure. The room was nice and clean and comfortable, and the area is convenient for accessing other parts of town. I have made good friends with other house guests and look forward to returning in future.
Seriously Amer´s apartment is the best place to stay in beirut!!!
