Easy walk to the Quarter!
Easy walk to the Quarter!
Please read this through, so you know what my house entails!
-I will be out of town through late September, so you will be hosted by my lovely house mate Lizzy-
Hi! I am a now 6 month veteran air bnb-er, a proud home owner who has sawed and hammered her way a long time to get here. My house is a never ending project, I feel the need to say this up front. I and my live in partner are sharing my best and most beautiful room with you lovely visitors to assist in the continued development of making my place ever better. All the proceeds from this site will go directly back into making my house more of a home.
What you can expect: one futon bed with brand new mattress, super soft cotton sheets, four plush pillows- two firm, two soft; a mini fridge, access to my gas stovetop, a hot soak or shower in a clawfoot bathtub, a very sweet dog and cat, and expert advice on everything from five star restaurants to the best corner store poboy shops, as well as some decent knowledge of local folklore and the odd and intriguing corners of this amazing city. You will be in the front room which has wonderful floor- up windows, and gets lots of warm, beautiful light, as well as being private, as the main entrance is on the side of the house. (Private meaning, most classic shotgun houses are a sort of giant partitioned hallway, with the bedrooms being passthroughs. I made a hallway through the second room back so that every bedroom has privacy.) There are some pretty coffee table type books to look at and a small cache of games- dominoes, cards, dice, and backgammon- in case you are of that mind.
What you cannot expect: Perfection. My home is a work in progress, there are tiles in the yard, there are unfinished or finished-enough-for-now areas, the bathroom is reached though my very much daily used jewelry studio. If you are upset by paint dots on the floor, a cat jumping on your bed, or everything not being at perfect 90 degree angles, this is likely not the best accommodation for you. If you like a house to have a bit (or a lot) of personality, much the same as the city herself, you will be right at home. This being said, the most common comment I hear upon people entering my place is, "your house just Feels good". I would self centeredly agree with this. I've spent a lot of years lovingly collecting curiosities and am thrilled to finally be able to display them. I don't allow smoking inside the house, but have an expansive side porch you are welcome to enjoy.
My house is a 20 minute walk from the beginning of the French Quarter, or a 5 minute bike ride. It is a 3 minute walk from the bumpin Marigny/ St Claude intersection, where any given night there are three bars to choose a venue from. 10 minute walk to (website hidden) and the Healing Center where you can yoga your hangover away, or just grab some local sushi from the new, fully stocked with delicious things, Co-op. Frenchman St, where those in the know go to see the latest and best local talent, is a 15 minute walk. Gene's poboys provides the both the best late night cheesesteak devouring spot, and a daiquiri variety that is guaranteed to cure the most ragged of what ails you. In the other direction, within a two block radius, are 24 hour gas stations, a Family Dollar, a laundrymat, an Auto Zone with a knowledgable parking lot staff, and a connection to the rest of the span of the country, in the form of the far reaching Highway 10.
Basically, my location kicks ass.
I love having guests, and am so excited to be able to open my home up as a haven away from all the inevitable excitement a city of this caliber entails. I don't have a (website hidden) account, but you can check out some of my work, and who I am, on my business website at Hourglassproductions, on Etsy.
Come have a visit!
When I first emailed Nyssa about staying here, I told her that her place looked like the antithesis to a hotel room, and I am happy to say it's completely true. The house is close to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter but far enough away that you don't run into the inevitable drunken revelers. Lizzy suggested going to a blues fest that was going on in Louis Armstrong Park, which ended up being a fantastic and spontaneous break from our streak of indulgence. Overall we had a great trip and would recommend this place to anyone else passing through.
Beautiful house and warm welcoming thank you for everything
Nyssa was open friendly, easy, and flexible to work with, its easy distance into the French quarter at an affordable rate.
Lovely house, adorable pets, walking distance to the quarter.
Great host, full of helpful suggestions. Bad area of the city if you act like a fratboy or aren't the adventurous type. Located near a lot of fun bars and walking distance from the french quarter.
My one night stay was the evening the Big Ice was to strike NO.....and it did. I met Nyssa briefly before friends showed off NO to me. Though the house was not built for cold weather, I was toasty and comfy in my room...picture is accurate. In an effort to beat the coming storm, I was in the road by 4:30 am the morning...not able to say thank you and farewell to Nyssa.
We had a wonderful trip to New Orleans and loved our stay in Nyssa's home. Her above description captures the place perfectly.
We had a great time in New Orleans, much to Nyssa's credit. The house was well located on a quiet (except for the ubiquitous jazz!) street, and Nyssa was a pleasure to chat with. She had some great suggestions for our trip. The room was spacious and clean, and we enjoyed our stay.
My boyfriend and I had an excellent time on our first trip to NOLA, and staying in Nyssa's house added to the wonderful experience. Her location is a convenient walk to the French Quarter, the house is full of odds'n'ends that make it feel homey, and the room we stayed in is warm and comfortable (and the futon has been upgraded to a very nice full bed). The only downside was that the bathroom was very, very cold when we visited in January, as there was no insulation around the window at the time.
Otherwise, Nyssa is a wonderful host and had lots of great suggestions for places to check out while we were in town. Bathroom aside, we would not hesitate to stay here again.
We had a great stay in New Orleans. Nyssa was very accommodating and we loved the location of her house. A perfect location to bike from in New Orleans. Thanks
