The Space

Relaxation & Rejuvenation, this Simple, Elegant Zen Sanctuary is a solar powered, off grid house. This newly renovated and remodeled house can accommodate five guests and offers all the amenities you will need for a comfortable stay.

The illumination from the sunrise permeates the atmosphere each morning giving rise to a resplendent elevated feeling. The treetop view overlooking the lush jungle canopy is inspiring. Wake-up in the morning to a symphony of birds and drift asleep to the serenade of the coqui frogs. This immersion with nature is an exuberant feeling.

The Neighborhood

This environment is perfect for meditation, yoga, personal retreat, eco-travelers, adventurers, or anyone who just wants to get away from it all, but still be close enough to all that the Big Island has to offer.

If you are coming to Big Island and are looking for a way to experience the real Aloha Spirit, come to the east side. You'll love it here. We can take you to many hidden spots you'll never forget. We are nestled in the green lush tranquil area of lower Puna on the south east side of the Big Island of Hawaii. This is the perfect retreat for relaxation or as a base for your Big Island adventure situated in Puna's premiere picturesque (Opihikao) neighborhood.

No vog here! We're only a few miles away from where the lava is flowing down the mountain, creating the newest land on earth! A ten to fifteen minute drive to Kehena Beach (clothing optional) where you can swim with dolphins and sunbathe on the black sand beach; Kalani Oceanside Retreat Center featuring Yoga and Ecstatic Dance; Ahalanui Park - a natural, volcanic thermally heated hot spring swimming pool; Snorkeling at Kapoho Tide Pools with its many varieties of exotic fish; Hiking through the pine forest at McKenzie State Park and many more natural wonders. Enjoy the thriving, colorful neighborhood farmer's market every Saturday. Kalapana Café and Uncle Roberts Kava Bar features a great local music scene and open air night-market on Wednesday evenings. Currently, Kalapana also offers the best Kilauea lava viewing opportunity on the entire island at a County-maintained viewing area. A fifteen-minute drive to the charming town of Pahoa for groceries, gas, banks, restaurants and more. Fourty-five minutes to Hilo, and fifty-five to Volcano National Park.

  • We have a fabulous stay in royal's place. Its neat and tidy and is just one step next to the nature. Royal was very helpful and provided us useful tips for travelling. We love the bakery shop he timtorduced. He is also a very nice person to talk to.

  • Royal was the best host, friendly and simple. His place is so clean, we really felt good. The vibe is calm and zen, we really appreciate it. It was in the middle of the nature, with lot of animal sounds - great to get back to roots. A lot to learn from the place, the host, too bad we didn't stay long, but I'm sure there will be another time!

  • Royal place was as pictured, but you cannot hear the birdsong, and smell the aromatherapeutic floral scents of the area. The place was peaceful, on a small rarely travelled road (only by residents), yet it is paved, and oh so scenic. We loved our stay there and would stay again. Royal was a clear communicator, attentive, and friendly. His place was very comfortable, simple yet elegant. The wifi is very reliable and steady. I would recommend (email hidden) to anyone who values clean, quiet, peaceful environs.

  • This review is coming some time after our stay, but Royal and his home were amazing! I spent my 30th birthday in his space and it was one I will never forget. My friend and I drank his incredible green smoothie in the sun and I have since been trying to replicate it to no avail! We felt so healthy, relaxed and alive during our stay in his beautiful home, it was such an incredible break from New York City and I hope to move to Hawaii one day! Mahalo Royal.

  • Royal gave us a warm welcome into his home which was beautiful, clean and tranquil. He suggested beautiful areas near by to visit, as well as markets with intriguing vendors and delicious treats from food trucks. We found so much common ground with Royal, and are so happy to have made a friend in him. We truly had a relaxing experience and we loved the east side of the island.

(and if you're visiting from Canada, eat as much fruit as possible on this trip. There isn't anything quite the same back home. Royal will (email hidden))

  • Caryl and my experience was much of what is listed below.....soul food....Beegan(Vegan) style :) What Id like to add is the knowledge that Royal has of nutrition and the human experience. I would highly recommend his home as well as, and more importantly, taking time to learn from his life......his home is a reflection of his life....and his home doesn't do it justice....

  • Royal's home in Puna is beautiful! We loved the space as it was clean, fresh, and full of sunshine! I woke up at 5 to take a look at the stars and wow is that a sight! His green smoothies and fruit salads were spectacular and his knowledge of the island is vast. Mahalo Royal. We will be back!

    January 2014
  • Royal is extremely friendly and welcoming and it was not an issue that we are not vegetarians (although we are definitely looking into eating more healthy after having paid him a visit! ☺). He had a lot of good input on what to see/visit and even took his time to guide us to some of it. We shared a delicious raw vegan gourmet dinner, which he prepared, and although our stay was short we had a great time. This (email hidden) if you need to time to relax!
