The ice cream factory, York
Large room in city centre with your own private bathroom.
Your room is on the sunny second floor with a double bed, comfy chair, wardrobe, large glass table and 40 inch TV with DVD. On the same floor is your own private bathroom with separate bath and shower. There is unlimited wifi throughout the house.
Located within York city walls in a quiet street, our home was once a 1940's built Italian ice cream factory which we converted into a unique three-bed house. It's an interesting and spacious home, with a contemporary feel and we've tried to retain some of the special character of the original building.
We are a few minutes walk from the railway station, right amongst the shops, bars, clubs and restaurants, in fact a short walk from most of York's attractions.
We are 1.9 miles from York University, 1 mile from St Johns University, 1.5 miles to York Racecourse and only 10 minutes walk to York's Minster.
On the ground floor is your own private mini kitchen with fridge, microwave oven, grill, toaster and kettle, plus a table for two. You get your own key, so come and go as you please. We are happy to chat if you need any help, but we also understand that you want your own space.
Fresh bed linen and towels are provided.
There is a secure garage on the ground floor, its £5 per day to hire but must be booked beforehand.
Mike greeted us on our arrival and showed us our room and the kitchen. Which was exactly what it said on the tin. The ice cream factory was ideal and was very close to every thing. There are so many pubs, cafe and restaurant to choose from and just a stone throw from the river Ouse. Just one thing, its not ideal for anyone who is not good with stairs.
It is a very nice, spacious room. Mike even had thought of an adapter plug for continentals. There was enough touristic information and Mike had made a summary of his highlights that was very helpful.
We were glad having our own bathroom, although a power point for an electric razor or hair-blower was missing.
Most of the time we were the only ones in the house so even the kitchen was 'ours' and we could use everything in it like milk and spice.
The Ice Cream Factory is located just a few minutes walk of the city and at the same time you have the advantage of a quiet night.
The room is warm if you want to, but you can open the window when you need fresh air.
Unfortunately the quilt on the bed is synthetic, that's sultry, so I didn't sleep wel. But it didn't matter my husband.
We really enjoined our stay en recommend it.
We loved staying at the Ice Cream Factory! Mike met us at the door to welcome us & show us the facilities. It's an amazing space. The room was very clean & comfy with a bathroom just across the hall that we had the sole use of. There was a list of great pubs & restaurants plus popular things to do - it was really handy. We worked our way through most of the pubs on the list (recommend the Hop & Mike's bar the Fossgate Social).
In terms of location, it's perfect. 10 minute walk from the train station & the same from the city centre. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
A fantastic place to stay in the centre of York - really warm on a very cold weekend. The whole place has a great look, combined with a big comfortable bed in a very spacious room, and a lovely bathroom. It was great to have a kitchen, too, and very useful. Spotlessly clean, with lovely linen and towels. Can't fault it! I would most definitely like to stay there again, and will recommend it as first choice for anyone looking for somewhere in this great city. I also visited Mike's new cafe bar, the Fossgate Social, which was very welcoming and cosy with a good vibe and great cakes.
Since starting my PhD at the university of York in September, I have been looking for the right place to stay where I can comfortably study during my monthly trips to York. The Ice Cream factory was the perfect spot - a light, airy room with a big desk to work at, good wifi and a lovely atmosphere in the house.
Mike was a great host - what a friendly chap :) Very knowledgeable about York too.
Having a kitchen was a real bonus. I've already booked for my next trip in February!
The hou se is really special and nice! Great location with only 5mins to town. We got a private and small kitchen to use which is one the ground floor and our room on the top floor. The room is good size and warm. The host is nice and invited us to watch the movie in his living room. The house is on a quite street and safe. Hot water is 24hrs. Although the bathroom is separated, its very big and clean. Good design! I would recommend to everyone!

I've lived at the ice cream factory for 5 years, slowly getting the place into shape.
I'm relaxed and easy going. Pop in and say hi, or keep yourselves to yourselves, I don’t mind.
I am self employed and create websites, I use a downstairs room as an office so I'm available all day if you have a question.
