Interaction with Guests

We love greeting guests and helping with directions and getting around town. Since we live on the 2nd floor and share the kitchen, we often run into guests in the common areas and love exchanging tips and travel insights. Our new puppy, Alys is a sweet, friendly and well-behaved delight.

Special attention to detail has been paid so you can thrive in our cozy home when we are unavailable in person, but always accessible by phone or email.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is diverse and friendly with quaint vintage shops, quirky bars and excellent restaurants. It is conveniently located near I-5 and public transport.

Just 5 miles north of Downtown and nestled in the historic Kenton community close to shops and dining, we are within easy walking distance to public transit (Yellow Max line and several buses) and a quick 10 minute car ride downtown with great N/S-bound freeway access.

Getting around

Bike: We rent awesome bikes that fit most people (5'0"-6'0") and include Nutcase helmets, safety gear and locks for just $15/day. Free and easy onto the buses and Max - use them to expand your stay and live like a local!

Bus: 4 and 75 are less than a block away and the Yellow Max line is only 6 blocks from the house.

Car: Parking is free and easy curbside at the house.

We are in the Car2Go zone and several Zipcars are in the neighborhood making shared transportation readily available.

Airport: From the airport, take a taxi for $20-30 and spend 20 minutes or take the Red Max train from the airport to the Rose Quarter and change to the Yellow Max train to Kenton Station then walk to the house. It usually takes 1-1.5 hours and costs $2.50.

Other Things to Note

You will be sharing space with other people, including a bathroom, so flexibility is key.

  • Read the hosts' description of the place and pay attention to the house rules, you'll get exactly what you expect and have a fantastic stay! It's a clean, well-organised lovely house at a very convenient location, the hosts tried every means to make our stay easy and comfortable. I especially like the environmental touches in the house. Wouldn't trade this precious personal experience with any hotel stay. Oh, the Po's Shines creole restaurant nearby is definitely a bonus!

  • It's my second stay with Maylene and Charity...and if I'm back in Portland, I'll chose them first. Lovely people, comfy and spacious place and while they're utterly respectful of your space, they're there if you need them.

  • We had a great stay here! We hardly saw our hosts, but when we did they were always friendly and welcoming. We definitely felt like we had our privacy, and Maylene and Charity have a beautiful, clean home, which was always nice to come back to after a long day out in the city. They’re not very centrally located to downtown, but with the public transport system in place it was super easy getting around. One 20min Max trip took us right to downtown, and the Max and buses could take us anywhere we wanted to go for very cheap. Their neighborhood was nice, primarily residential, and we always felt safe walking to and from the Max stop and their home (about 6 blocks).
All in all, a great stay!

  • Easy to give my hosts a good review- they are totally set up to host and made my stay so easy and comfortable. Especially appreciated the attention to customer service (which is above and beyond for air bnb's to start with)- the Roku set up, labels on the kitchen cabinets, shared kitchen supplies (so helpful when you like to cook but can't carry your whole spice rack from home). The house was extremely clean and comfortable, couldn't ask for anything more.

  • Maylene and Charity's home was absolutely wonderful to stay at. The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom is right next to the room, which was nice, and it provided all of the toiletries that you may not have packed.
The neighborhood is peaceful and I felt very safe there. I personally took advantage of the coffee shops within walking distance and would highly recommend both Cup Coffee Company and Grindhouse Coffee if you're looking for a quiet place to do work or read. The Rose Garden is also a moderate walk away.
Maylene and Charity kept everything in their house perfectly immaculate and were pleasant to interact with.

  • We had a great weekend at this quiet, clean house with beautiful Japanese-themed decor in the living room. Maylene & Charity were really nice, and so was their little puppy. Fun neighbourhood with little vintage shops and a nice soul food place, and close to the highway and to public transit. Recommended!

  • Maylene and Charity are incredible hosts. Not only was the room exactly what I expected, but the house is beautiful and so comfortable. I immediately felt at home. They were warm and welcoming, offered some suggestions for places to walk for breakfast and coffee, but offered enough space to the guests that it still felt private. I will absolutely stay here on a return visit to Portland.

Oh! And I highly recommend walking 4 blocks to Posies for your coffee and morning snack. A perfect way to start each morning.

  • Charming, cozy and clean suite in a beautiful house located in a great area of the city! The communication with the hosts was smooth and friendly :)

  • Had a great stay here, the room was a good size and the bed was super comfortable. Rented a bike for the week which was great, and all the stuff that you need with it, lock, helmet, etc. Very friendly hosts, was a pleasure to share their home, accommodating and respectful. Would definitely stay again on a future trip.
