The Neighborhood

Locals will tell you that they hardly ever go to Union Square or Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s because we know a secret…the best parts of San Francisco are found in the nooks and crannies of our diverse and colorful neighborhoods. The architecture, restaurants and personality of the city change from block to block. There’s no better way to experience all that San Francisco has to offer than to be situated right in the middle of it. Your centrally-located urban oasis awaits you.

This safe neighborhood (North of the Panhandle or “Nopa”) is considered one of the most vibrant and “up and coming” districts of San Francisco. The condo is walking distance to dozens of restaurants (of all budgets and cuisines), the City’s best music venues (the world-famous Fillmore and award-winning Independent), fine grocery (Green Earth Natural Foods, Bi-Rite, Falletti Foods, Trader Joe’s) and some truly charming watering holes (MiniBar, Fly, The Page). University of San Francisco is just a short walk from the condo.

You are also only minutes away from some of San Francisco’s most iconic sites: The Panhandle and Golden Gate Park, Alamo Square (and her famous “Painted Ladies”), and Buena Vista Park. Nopa borders some of San Francisco’s most interesting districts - the Fillmore, the Haight, Hayes Valley, the Castro and Pacific Heights. Nopa also has the highest concentration of historic Victorian and Edwardian homes. Walking in my neighborhood is a treat for the eyes.

Ample neighborhood street parking (unrestricted from
4p-10a M-F, free on weekends)

  • Drew was a fantastic host for my first time using Airbnb. Our paths didn't cross too much, but he was very helpful and hospitable, leaving us a clean, homey space to stay with access to several amenities. He also checked in on us to make sure we were comfortable and having a good time. The place is great and in a very convenient location, and I would definitely reach out to him again when we come back to visit SF. When I accidentally left a few things behind, he was kind enough to let me know and help make arrangements to return them. Thanks Drew!

  • This was our first Airbnb experience and we found it to be excellent.

Drews place is simply lovely. It is spacious, nicely decorated and felt like a home from home for our visit. It has great views of the city, which if you are an early bird look fantastic at dawn.

The travel links are also very good. I would recommend a 1, 3, or 7 day MuniPass that allows all day riding on the buses and the historic cable cars, its the easiest and cheapest way to get around and allows you to meet the San Franciscans. The #31 service stops 50 feet from the door and takes you West to Ocean Beach or East to the bay front piers.

Drew knows his neighbourhood really well and can point you in the direction of local bars and restaurants that have a good rep. He is very friendly, well travelled and keen to not only provide a great experience for his guests, but also to understand a little of where they have travelled from. We had regular contact, and found him to be extremely helpful and considerate.

All in all, a brilliant first Airbnb experience and thanks to a great host. Check out Drews place - we loved it.

  • The description and photos are all true to the place, including good natural light and city views. Nicely appointed apartment, peaceful ambiance, clean and neat, various conveniences and amenities like nice sound system and TV. Great NOPA location in lively neighborhood with lots of young people out on Divisidero; walking distance to lots of fun stuff, and perfect for our needs. Quiet neighbors. There was street noise especially in the living room but the bedroom is quieter and fine with earplugs. Even parking wasn't bad for SF! Drew is a friendly guy who was nice enough to approve us staying there with our dog, once we agreed on some reasonable conditions. We would recommend this place highly and would stay here again.

  • This was our first Airbnb experience with my wife and I spent really a lot of time on the airbnb site looking for the perfect place to stay. Now I can say that Drew's place was beyond our expectations.

The location is unbeatable to visit San Francisco. Every interesting part of the city is easily reachable as it is at a very central place and very close to many bus lines (31 bus stop that we used a lot was just at a few meters from the apartement). The area around is also very nice with a lot of bars and restaurants.

The apartement itself is just great : quiet, well decorated, equiped with all you can need and it has a great view over the city. The room is on the street side but thanks to special windows, traffic noise remains very low. The bed is so comfortable, we really slept very well. The apartement was really very clean and neat (probably cleaner than our own place !).

Drew has been a wonderful host and made everything very easy. (Thanks again :) Also, the guide book is very well done with everything you need to know about the apartement itself and many good adresses in the area. We found it very useful.

If you are looking at the perfect place to stay a few days (or more!) in San Francisco, don't look further, you found it !

  • Drew's apartment is just like the photos suggest. It is open and bright with lots of space. The location is good with some interesting things to walk to. I found it to be very cheap compared to other options in the city at the time as well.

I will say that it's quite noisy in the bedroom. There is a lot of road noise except for between 1am-6am when things seem to quiet down. The noise isn't unexpected in SF, as I've been to cheaper hotels that have similar road noise. But, just know that it's not quiet.

Other than that, Drew would do well to learn to depersonalize his apartment a bit when renting it. Having a strangers bathrobe and luffa still in the shower certainly kept reminding me I was in other person's space, and was mildly uncomfortable. Also it didn't seem like the apartment was well cleaned before I arrived, as it smelled very strongly of being lived in. That's not to say it smelled bad, but it just a very strong smell of other people. Again, this was just a reminder that I was sleeping in a strangers bed and in their space.
These are all fixable things, but I wouldn't suggest this place to a friend or re-rent it without these issues fixed.

Overall I don't feel cheated or anything, just that there is some room to improve.

    Response from Drew:

    This first-time airbnb, non-reviewed guest
was a challenge from the git-go. As
evidenced from this listing’s other reviews, it is obvious that *every* other
guest experience has been the exact opposite from this person’s. The unit was
    most definitely cleaned. The cleanliness
of the unit is a recurring area of praise from guests who have stayed in my
home. The personal items mentioned will
    be removed for future stays.

Please take the other reviews into
consideration when evaluating this listing for your stay. Nearly every airbnb
listing offered by an airbnb host is their home...which is the heart of the
airbnb culture. To most guests, this is the exact reason why they use airbnb
over a hotel. I do my best to welcome everyone into my home. But, in the end, there is nothing I can do
about how a guest feels about “sleeping in a stranger’s bed and in their space.”
There are some people better suited to staying in hotels, and this guest might
very well fit into that category. The only guest so far that I have had an
unsatisfying experience (independent of their review) and cannot recommend.

  • Drew was fantastic, as was his apartment. Throughout our communication, he responded both quickly and clearly, which I really appreciated. We communicated exclusively via text and email, which worked out great for me.

His apartment was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Although another guest stayed there right before we did, Drew went through special effort to make sure that the place was still in great shape and ready for our arrival.

Also, Drew's guide book provided a lot of great, local information that was very helpful to us. The next time I'm in San Francisco, I'll be checking to see if his apartment is available!

  • Drew's place was ideal for my quick trip in and out of San Francisco. It was clean and spacious and close to where I needed to be. Drew was extraordinarily attentive through emails and text messages. Even though he was out of town it was clear that I could get as much assistance as I needed. Most importantly, Drew went out of his way to accommodate my late reservation even though it required some creative last minute arrangements. I really appreciated his flexibility and hospitality!

  • Drew is a genuine, thoughtful and approachable host. His place is exactly as it is presented, and proved very comfortable, clean, spacious and quiet. Drew did everything possible to ensure a smooth check-in, and was concerned to make sure I had everything I needed. He went out of his way to introduce me to the neighborhood. It was easy to correspond with him via email and text before and during my stay. I had a wonderful time here, the surrounding area is great and, being new to San Francisco, it felt like the best place from which to explore the city. Highly recommended.

  • Best of all worlds for us. Location was perfect, near everything we wanted. Apt was clean, comfortable, well decorated, and bright. Drew was a delight. I would definately go back.

    September 2013
  • Loved Lots: The feel of the place, it is a very calming, relaxing space. The comfy bed. The wall art. The views. The neighbourhood. The excellent 'tenant guide' and advice Drew provided.

Loved Less: That we only had two days!

About
I am a consultant working with early-stage NGOs. I travel quite a bit and am happy to share my home with other travelers. Enjoy your time in San Francisco....the best city in America! As you can see from my reviews, lots of first time airbnb guests have had enjoyable stays at my home. If you are new to airbnb (or not) and want to book one of my listings, please consider these "pro tips" that I've learned, both, as an airbnb host and guest: 1) make sure you are completely verified and have a nice, clear photo of your face on your profile; 2) read through the airbnb FAQs thoroughly! Hosts with hot liistings are busy people and we appreciate it when prospective guests ask questions unique to their travel situation and/or the listing in question. We appreciate less those that ask us general airbnb questions that are answered already in the FAQs; 3) please, please, please thoroughly read through my listing(s). I assure you that your questions about parking, check in/out, etc. have been included in the listing(s); 4) since you don't yet have any reviews, hosts like me must take a guess as to what sort of guest(s) you might be (and some hosts won't even consider people new to airbnb). In the absence of a review, you might consider the following to ensure I (other hosts) will feel comfortable approving your request: - get another airbnb member to write a reference on your behalf (click on "reviews/references" in your profile and you will see how to do that) - in your initial note, you might want to include what your plans are during your stay (sightseeing, attending a conference, partying at clubs, etc) - include assuring comments about how you will treat my home (i.e. "I will treat your home with the same respect I treat mine") *-> give some indication that you've read the house rules and that they are agreeable to you'll be the best guests ever<-* 5) I, like other busy hosts, keep my calendar up to date. So, if the system is showing your dates available, they are available. If you want to book my place, it is best to send the booking request right off. If you hesitate, the person looking at my place across from you will lock it up! Hope this is helpful. Welcome to my home.
