Welcome to our woodsy surroundings, and light, bright home with wonderful views. We are located by ski trails; x-c and downhill, mountain bike trails, brooks for fishing, and Mount Mansfield for hiking. You can walk to the famous Matterhorn restaurant at the bottom of our drive voted "Best Apres Ski Bar in America!" No driving necessary. We have wifi, desks in the rooms, and can fit up to 6 people when you book our other rooms if you are a big party. Coffee and granola in the morning provided.

The space

Welcome to our home, tucked into the woods, built with the trees from the property, hewn into a post and beam structure by a local artisan, We have a glassed in stove settled into our fireplace, making it very cozy... Vermont style! Our home is light and bright and airy.

Your room is warm and bright. You have the sitting room too, to give you more space to stretch out in. You have a shared bath, but it MAY be possible to set one bath aside for you, privately, if you let us know in advance. We have another room to book if you are a bigger party, "Woods Retreat #2". And "Yoga Nest" for the nimble. We can accommodate a party of 6, if need be, just ask.

We live a very active lifestyle here, and can help you find your way on any trails you wish to hike, bike or ski, We are 1 mile below the ski lifts on Mount Mansfield, and right on the x-c and mountain bike trails. We are at the base of the famed Smugglers Notch for leaf peeping, hiking the long trail, and road biking. At the bottom of our drive is the well known, local watering hole, The Matterhorn Restaurant and Bar. You never have to drive! It's all right here!

My son and I can orient you to town, and where all of you who love the arts can find professional theater, music, and oodles of art galleries. We can help you discern what restaurant would suit you. I work at home as an author, and so please understand we are a busy household, we love to have you stay, but we may be working downstairs or running to an event or meeting. Just make yourselves at home upstairs and ignore us!

This house is family style, all bedrooms on the upper floor, so we walk upstairs and through the sitting room to retire too. We will set out good granola for breakfast with cream and milk in the fridge, and with the coffee maker locked and loaded on top. We keep it simple here for everyone's independence, so guests can keep their own time schedule. No cooking allowed on site.

There is the Mountain Road shuttle which has different schedules depending on the season, but ostensibly, you could bike or ski to our door, and have everything you need right here, and can even shuttle to town to eat and drink.... no need to ever drive! I'm an 8th generation Vermonter, with lots of info, tips and stories to share. Come be our guests!

(I've just found out we need to charge 9-10% room and meals tax for the state of Vermont, this is why the price went up, sorry!! but thanks for supporting Vermont...) No cooking allowed on site.

We are often early to bed, to catch a full day of outdoor fun and work, but that doesn't mean you have to! However, we'd love it if you didn't party hearty after 10 PM, at least not here! Now the Matterhorn at the bottom of the drive, they'd love to have you all night if that's your thing.

Away from the “noise” of down town. Walkable to a convientence store and bar. The Matterhorn bar was full of local fun. Jan is a great host. Very knowledgeable of the area. Good for conversation or will give you your space if needed. The open door check in policy is super convenient. Everything is well labeled. Dedicated guest refrigerator, coffee maker, and breakfast treats are appreciated.

Great little spot and still willing to accommodate us even when we booked last minute and the host had guests over! We still had our own privacy and everything went smoothly. Thank you so much for a great stay (:

We really enjoyed our stay! It was so quiet and peaceful there. We had a lovely room with a comfortable bed, and we found Jan to be very accommodating. Next time we are in Stowe we will definitely stay there!

Great stay! Clean rooms, almost reminded me of a nice homey hostel. We were in Stowe for one night as a resupply on our Long Trail end-to-end, and Jan was super accommodating and helpful. Super hiker friendly :) close to the Matterhorn and Piecasso delivered here no problem for us! Thanks again for everything!!

I am an outdoor enthusiast, 8th generation Vermonter, who travels the world to make non-fiction books, mostly for kids, but have a few out for adults too! Live simply, consume less, share more, is something that resonates with me. I love the Vermont healthy, can-do attitude, and the way we are re-energizing agriculture nationally with the idea of eating local, and knowing where your food comes from.
