The space

Short term stays or semester-long

Room in a beautiful historic home in Holmes Foster, walking distance to the university (with attached study if arranged, at an extra cost). There is plentiful outdoor space with flowering gardens and a yard and patio. Graduate students or visiting faculty preferred. A lovely home with fine appointments looking for quiet, respectful, non-partying guest.

Shared bath, mini fridge, kettle, hot plate, microwave

Guest access

outdoor spaces, shared bath, private bedroom plus study if arranged, garage for bicycle access, laundry room accessible from outside, parking on short term basis and negotiable after.

Interaction with guests

We are a small family living in the downstairs. We use the upstairs bath and the upstairs closets and extra bedrooms (extra guest room and playroom) for getting organized and the occasional extra guest, but for the most part it's quite private upstairs. .

Other things to note

I ask that guests observe energy conserving measures during the Pennsylvania winter, turning down the heat when no one is at home and at night, as comfortable.

Elizabeth was a fantastic host, and was very helpful during my stay at State College. Her house was cosy with only a short walking distance to the University and town. Would highly recommend!

Elizabeth's house was absolutely perfect for my long stay in State College. I worked as a visiting scholar in Penn State for the Fall and was after a clean and quiet place within walking distance to the office. The location of the house can't be better: 5/10' away from campus, 5' away from the shops and restaurants downtown and a few minutes away from beautiful footpaths that any runner will love. The house is very comfortable, beautiful and well-equipped with everything you might need, including bikes we could borrow to cycle around town. The other guests in the house were fantastic and the general atmosphere was that of a happy place, where people respect the environment, each other's space and the house. Elizabeth was mostly out of town during my stay, but always reachable on email to answer my questions both before and after my arrival. The interaction with her was great and it was lovely to meet her and her family. It's been a great experience. Both house and host are absolutely brilliant.

I really enjoyed my stay in State College and this especially because of the nice home I stayed in for the time of my visit there. Elizabeth is a great person and host, most responsible with her guests and always to be reached, and the house is very cozy and feels easily like home. It was also lovely to stay with other guests in the house there, all shared rooms/facilities are in good shape and most functional. I also very much appreciated that I could use a bike to get around, though the house is so centrally located that one can also easily walk downtown/university (10-15 min).
