Sorry no pets allowed.

We are a cooking family and our kitchen is in near constant use. The kitchen is the first room you see when entering our house and you should not expect it to appear spotless. As a family we have a relaxed attitude about OUR living areas.

There are 20 steps involved to get from the first floor up to the room which is on the second floor. If you have trouble with steps this room is probably not for you.

We allow guests to use the microwave and store foodstuffs in the refrigerator. If you think you are going to want to use the kitchen more extensively please discuss it with us prior to booking.

If you are not going to be able to check-in earlier than 10 p.m. please book with another host, sorry no exceptions.

The TV is attached to a DVD player only. Many DVDs are provided.

We have had a few complaints that we have a claw foot tub but no shower so if you plan on staying with us keep in mind that there is NOT a shower.

All children (including babies) count as people, so two parents plus a child would be 3 guests. The 3rd guest is $25 per night.

You will be provided a key so that you may come and go at will during your stay. You must always use the back door which is adjacent to the driveway where your packing spot is located on the right hand side of the driveway. One of the images in the listing shows both where you should park and the house entrance.

  • My stay with Martha and Joseph was everything I had expected. Their communication prior to my arrival was efficient and friendly. The room was exactly as described and the bathtub was wonderful. Best of all, the breakfast basket provided by Martha in the morning, including her sweet handwritten greeting, put a nice finishing touch on my three day visit to Portland. Would definitely stay with them again.

You and your friends are welcome back anytime Anna. Glad to know you enjoyed your time in Portland.

  • A great host! The breakfast was the best I have had for a long while. The location was perfect and a 30 minute walk into Portland downtown was enjoyable.

    Response from Joseph:

Thank you for your flexibility around your arrival time and for communicating so clearly that evening. We appreciated being able to relax and enjoy our daughter's birthday dinner. Please come again when you are up in our neck of the woods.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Joseph's house. The room is very pretty and tidy, and located in quiet area of the house. The house by itself is also very charming, and it does look like an old English colonial house with all nice things to have. We also appreciated and liked breakfast very much and wished that there were more scones... Thank you!

We enjoyed your stay with us very much Andrey. Please come again when the weather is better.

  • My husband and I spent a fantastic night staying at Martha and Joe's house. The room and adjacent bath were both extremely clean and the breakfast was just lovely; scones, fruit and yoghurt served in a lovely little basket. Martha greeted us at the door as soon as we arrived, thus we felt welcomed from the start. She was also very flexible with the time of our arrival. Thanks very much guys, we'll be back in the summertime hopefully!

Thanks, Sarah, for the great review. And please do come back this summer. We would be happy to see you and Garrick again.

  • We had an excellent stay with Joe and Martha. Even though our trip was super last-minute, they were able to accommodate us! Great breakfast, comfy bed. I had a great time admiring Martha's awesome fiber arts studio! Can't wait to come back to Portland when it's a little warmer :)

  • Joseph and Martha were wonderful hosts, offering a warm welcome during a cold visit in February. Delightful treat of breakfast scones and claw foot tub made the stay extra special.

  • Went up for a Valentine's getaway weekend. Can't say enough about Joe and Martha and their lovely home. That California Kind sized bed has ruined me for all other beds, and the clawfoot tub was a wonderful change of pace. Joe and Martha were so nice and had great recommendations for things to do in the area. The room was everything we wanted and more. Highly recommend. There's a reason these guys have hundreds of positive reviews.

  • This is a great room, clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable, we had a great night's sleep. And I hadn't had a nice hot bath in ages, so the claw-foot tub was a fun treat. The breakfast was delicious, and their house is in a really convenient area to get to several restaurants. Not too far from several lighthouses or Allagash Brewing Company either, if you're interested in some sight-seeing. Martha and Joe great hosts as well.

    Response from Joseph:

Thank you Alyssa for your great review. You and Cameron should come check out Portland again....when the snow isn't quite so deep!

  • Although we only stayed with Joseph & Martha for one night, we felt very welcome and comfortable in the room. It was clean, warm and quiet. Martha's breakfast was delicious! The whole process couldn't have been easier. Thank you!
