We are a cooking family and our kitchen is in near constant use. The kitchen is the first room you see when entering our house and you should not expect it to appear spotless. As a family we have a relaxed attitude about OUR living areas.

There are 20 steps involved to get from the first floor up to the room which is on the second floor. If you have trouble with steps this room is probably not for you.

The TV is attached to a Roku player only. Netflix is provided. No cable or satellite TV is provided.

We have had a few complaints that we have a claw foot tub but no shower so if you plan on staying with us keep in mind that there is NOT a shower.

You will be provided a key so that you may come and go at will during your stay. You must always use the back door which is adjacent to the driveway where your packing spot is located on the right hand side of the driveway. One of the images in the listing shows both where you should park and the house entrance.

Joseph & Martha were excellent hosts and communicated everything clearly prior to arrival. I had no issue finding their home, and check in was a breeze. Martha walked me through everything, as they happened to be home when I arrived. I did not have contact with them after the first day, but was very pleased with my room, the morning breakfast (a welcome way to kick off the day) and the deep bathtub was a nice way to relax after a long day of exploring the area. Their home is well situated, whether driving or walking.

Close to the University and to downtown. We were able to walk to everything we were interested in and other than a small snafu with a doorknob we had a great trip. Your hosts are laid back and easy to talk with. The location was fairly easy to find and we felt safe in this location.

Charming older home. Delightful breakfast of scones and coffee left outside our door is an appreciated touch. The room is as described. It was very clean and the bed is comfortable. The location is a short drive from Old Port and other areas to visit. Our hosts were quiet and friendly.

We had a great time staying at Joseph's place! Room was exactly as pictured in a charming home, plenty of space, very clean, and the homemade breakfast they threw in was delicious! The location couldn't have been better, 1 mile and you're in the center of Old Portland. I definitely recommend staying at Joseph's, we would love to stay there again the next time we visit Portland!

Martha and Joe both grew up in Freeport, Maine. Joe knows a lot about what Maine has to offer, including the off the beaten track places that aren't in the tourist publications. Martha is a fiber artist, with an active studio in the house where she gives classes on knitting, spinning, doll making, quilting...

Martha is also an accomplished maker of scones and other breakfast fare. Joe will be making the coffee.
