This was a well-located place to crash with a friendly and accommodating host, but overpriced for the quality of the room. The $90 we paid (including a discount) was a lot cheaper than anything else we could have gotten so close to the center of town, and Sabir was very kind about letting us check in after 10pm so we could attend a Thanksgiving dinner, but I was surprised by how shabby the room and bathroom were. The water mattress (which is on the floor) was comfy, but the bedding, walls, and ceiling had stains, and a space heater seamed to be the main source of heating. The bathroom was pretty rundown, with a wrench to turn on the sink's cold water and a bucket beneath to catch the runoff (he said this was a temporary plumbing issue). We opted not to try the shower.
Sabir and I were in touch quite a bit before our arrival, since he prefers talking on the phone to using the Airbnb messaging system, and he was very laid back and clear in his communication. The guest room is upstairs, right next to his bedroom, I think, where he was watching movies till late. Overall, the visit reminded me of times I'd crashed with friends who lived in big group houses in Santa Cruz, CA, the same mixture of dingy location and warm vibes. For the price, a chain motel a little further out of town may have been easier and nicer for our needs.
Perfect Location , Near to downtown and shops. Sabir is very flexible and helpful.
The residence was conveniently located in a quiet cul-de-sac within easy walking distance of Wesleyan University, downtown Middletown, and public transportation [I was not using a rental car]. Sabir, the host, was very attentive, friendly, a good musician who frequently played his flute, and a very interesting person. The water bed was comfortable and the room fairly large.
Compared to hotels and inns in and near Middletown, this was a great bargain price wise and it suited me well and met my [flexible and easygoing] needs.
Sabir was a very gracious host and shared his abode easily. The waterbed was extremely comfortable. Location very good for access to downtown and Wesleyan College. Thank you Sabir for sharing your space.
I stayed for two nights while attending a professional meeting at Wesleyan. Sabir is a great host, very friendly and helpful. The bed is comfortable but low; if you have mobility issues this could be a problem. The room has every convenience, including a "fireplace" -- nice touch! (I brought my own blowdryer just in case, but there was one in the room.) The bathroom is kind of funky but serviceable. The house is only a block or so from lots of restaurants and an easy walk, two blocks I think, from the university. Yet because it's in a cul-de-sac, it's very quiet. Would definitely recommend it to friends.
Comfortable room! Wonderful bed! Nice host! Easy to walk to Wesleyan or downtown. Sketchy bathroom. I will def return when visiting my daughter at Wes.
