Come and visit Kyoto's mountainous area and stay in a traditional thatched-roof (Kayabuki) house.
The specialty of our house is that you can eat Japanese family dishes cooked by the local host couple, and you can even learn how to cook them :)

The space

--The space--
The town we live in is called Keihoku. It's only 1 hour North from central Kyoto and you can enjoy stunningly majestic mountain and river scenery, fresh air, and meet heart-warming people. We also offer some unique nature tours!

Guest access

For your access, you can use living room, kitchen, shower/wash room, toilet. As for the linen, clean sheets, pillow cases, blankets and bath/hand towels are provided. The use of hair dryer, refrigerator is also free. For guests who stay more than 2 nights, we also offer the use of laundry machine and dryer.
As for internet environment, you have free internet Wi-Fi (tethering) at our place. Plus, during your stay, you can use and bring our tablet wherever you go for free so that you are always connected to the signal. It's very useful, especially to check your location in new places.

As for internet, we provide free internet (Wi-Fi) during your stay.

Interaction with guests

--Interaction with guests--
Basically, I will be with you and help you during your stay in the property. I and my wife Yukako also offer some optional (paid) extras during your stay, such as cooking, trekking, or yoga training (in the attic space). I speak English, thanks to my travel experience around the world.

My hobbies are motorcycle riding, playing with dogs, reading books to compare different cultures and history, sea fishing and making pickles with home-grown vegetables.

We like to get to know our guests and would love to learn about your culture and your life. We love meeting new people and sharing the history of Keihoku with our guests. We are friendly and like to chat. :)

Other things to note

--Getting around--
Since Keihoku is quite a large area, it is difficult to visit places just on foot (most destinations are about 5-10km away).

To get around this area, you can also rent 4 bikes for free - the supermarket and bus terminal are around only 30mins away by bike.

--Day tours--
We can take you on tours (with English guidance and transportation) for an additional fee. We organize a tour schedule with you based on what’s most suitable for you, the weather and the season. You can choose your itinerary from the following options:
・Waterfall trekking
・Giant cedars trekking
・Visiting the shrine & temple
・Visiting the sake brewery
・Visiting the historical thatched roof house village
・Night fireflies viewing (from beginning-June to end-June only)

One day tour (10:00~16:00) is 6,000 yen per person, but if you are interested in going to the Onsen (hot springs) along the sea of Japan and visiting the fresh seafood market, the rate is 8000 yen since the place is 70km away (1.5hour).

Central Kyoto tour : 8,000 yen per person(excluding parking fee, admission fee and meal)

If you choose to do a tour with us, you can pay by credit card (VISA, MASTER, JCB, AMEX, DINERS, DISCOVER). Depending on how long you stay with us, we can do multiple tours - it’s up to you.

---Other things we offer---
We want to make your stay comfortable and entertaining, so we offer some added extras at our place for you to enjoy, including:
・A BBQ set - having an outdoor barbeque with guests is our favorite way of dining
・10 yoga mats so you can enjoy practicing yoga any time you want
・Piano and acoustic guitar - we are music lovers!
・Japanese toys for children, so there is no boring time for the kids
・Two dogs - our Golden Retriever puppy Azuki is very cute and she loves meeting new people and making friends
・I sometimes go sea fishing, and you can eat what he catches!
・A small farm full of seasonable vegetables, which you can harvest and eat for free

※We are working on setting up a cafe that serves light meals. When it’s ready we hope our guests will enjoy eating there. :)

Wonderful stay! My family of 5 (ages (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) stayed here on nights 7 and 8 of a 9 night trip to Japan. This was, by far, the best part of our trip. Hideo and his wife are wonderful hosts. The home is a bit secluded, but well worth the effort. We shared are meal prepared by our hosts and Welton a tour of Kyoto with Hideo. The home is traditional and is the perfect Japanese experience. I was very impressed with the craftsmanship of the improvements that Hideo has made. He is very talented. Hideo and his wife made our stay exceptional.

They were such a sweet couple! Very accommodating, friendly and kind, and thoughtful, too! We were pleasantly surprised to see tooth brushes and other amenities in their house, like a real Ryokan in Japan! The house was very spacious and clean. The whole area was serene and beautiful. We did bicycling around. What a gem! Definitely would like to come back!! :)

Hideo and Yukako were wonderful hosts! Really nice, fun people with cute dogs (the golden retriever was really great to play with, very funny :) Definitely try one of Yukako's meals at least once, and the day trips are worth it too (the waterfall and cedars were my favorite). Went with my mom and she left her vitamins and they not only sent them to us in Osaka, but also gave us some small gifts. Wonderful location, home, people (and dogs!) Would absolutely recommend

Hideo is a very real and generous japanese I have ever talked to in Japan. He explained to me alot about Japanese manner, and shared a lot of his memory and thoughts with me. I appreciated that. His wife, Yukako, is also a very nice person, her misu soup is rank #1!

A slice of rustic countryside, a quiet place far from the maddening crowds but just 30 km from Kyoto. Lovely host Hideo and Yuka with their two friendly dogs certainty made us feel welcome. The surrounding little towns and cypress forests with windy roads and magnificent river : so atmospheric and evocative of a quieter country life. There were only four of us so there was a lot of room - if you have a party of 6 it would be just nice. We loved the kitchen, the heated table and sleeping on futons. Please note that there is only one bath and a separate toilet plus another separate sink. We had a rented car and drove everywhere. Hideo is certainly a great host who responds quickly to every message.

Me and my girlfriend had a splendid vacation at Hideo's place. Hideo's apartment is location at the country side of kyoto. Although it's a small town, it was never boring for us. The small village has great scenery and very peaceful, it was great for us since we wanted to relax a little during our long vacation. Hideo and his wife were the best hosts we ever had on airbnb. They are friendly and easy to talk to, they had been very helpful to us. They brought us to see some tourist sites nearby. Bonus point, they have 2 cute dogs at the house! We totally loved our time there, we would definitely come back again if we ever visit kyoto in the future.
