Our house layout is highly conducive to all work/sleep habits, whether you are a night owl or work a 9-5! However we have strict rules about quiet hours and cleaning up after using the kitchen. Lets keep it comfortable for everyone.
Communication, amenities, and my overall experience left a little something to be desired, but you can't beat the price and close proximity to the airport. It met my expectations, but no more.
1. I needed more instruction, in writing, in particular about which bed to sleep in and how to enter the residence. Jocelyn did not respond to my calls or texts to confirm my reservation until minutes before I boarded the plane to San Francisco. Email is better.
2. I wanted to do a load of laundry but the dryer was out of order, so that was a bummer.
3. My overall experience equaled about as much as you would expect from a mediocre hostel. The living room and kitchen were very messy considering the strict rules in the description.
So, I would recommend Jocelyn's place if you're looking for a cheap place to crash close to the airport, but don't get your hopes up. You certainly cannot beat the price and location in that respect. And the other guests are very easy-going and trustworthy. Plus, I showed up after midnight and left before daylight, so take my experience with a grain of salt. Still, it was only ok.
This was exactly what I needed... a place to crash while attending a conference at a hotel nearby. Jocelyn and I had a GREAT conversation about education/entrepreneurship while sitting on the floor of one of the bunk bed rooms. She is a great resource with whom I'll stay in contact...and the other folks staying there were kind, friendly, and respectful of personal space. Highly recommended.
This was a nice place, the people were friendly, the beds and bedding were super comfortable for a hack house, free coffee and tea, washer/dryer. I liked the long list of rules, because it keeps the place clean and tidy (other hack houses aren't). The price was comparable. The internet sucked, which is unacceptable in a hack house (I was in the back house, and it may have been better in the front...not sure). Parking is ok... The location is decent for going to and from SF. But sort of far from San Jose/Mountain View/Palo Alto area.
Jocelyn was wonderful. She made it a point to coordinate with me to greet me and orient me at the house. It was a wonderful experience meeting everybody staying at the house. So many people passionate about startups and tech under a single roof was a treat.
Everything I needed was there. The place was very clean and organized. Having met great entrepreneurs was a bonus. Jocelyn was an awesome host.
Jocelyn is hospitable. Room is clean. I arrived very late in the evening but she is very patient. Close to subway station.
No wifi in the backroom. 6 beds in the room.
Great place great people! The only thing that I would change are the bunk beds for more firm metal ones as its very easy to wake up the person beneath you because the beds move too much.
Overall good. Open door. Very friendly. Everyone shared food.
Small complaints--Jocelyn did not give simple directions from the Bart station. This would have saved me some aggravation( leave by west exit -- just 2 1/2 blocks).
Not enough outlets in the bedroom --I couldn't keep my phone charging at night, next to me for the alarm
I really enjoyed my stay at Chez JJ in Mountain View. It was great company, including friendly golden retriever and border collie. There are 3 permanent residents there who manage the place and are just nice and easy-going (Jocelyn lives at another house). Everyone hung out a lot in the big kitchen/common area, as well as going out together. The house is very comfortable: it's very clean, the bunk room is kept quiet so there was no problem sleeping, there are two bathrooms and plenty of closet space with shelving to put suitcases and unpack, and wonderful yard with fruit trees. Contrary to popular expectation, it was not all 25-year-old guys, but it was half women when I stayed there, and included non-hacker scientists and an architecture student. Only minus was that the dishwasher was often too full so that dishes piled up around the sink -- hopefully they'll figure out a policy to rectify that. Otherwise, I will certainly stay there again next time I'm in town!
I had a blast. You'll meet some great people.
