The space

Free standing guesthouse with private entrance in Elysian Heights. Clean and airy with lots of light. Indoor and outdoor space balanced by an open kitchen that leads to private deck / pebble garden, surrounded by lush plants.

Our guest house is not lived in by somebody else and is a free standing building with no shared walls. We take pride in its simplicity. The queen bed is super comfy, firm but supple with temperpedic top layer. The kitchen is includes stainless steel appliances, quality cookware, dishware, toaster, complimentary small batch coffee and a variety of teas along with essentials like olive oil, sea salt and pepper. And if you need additional cooking tools we're well stocked next door and happy to share! Flatscreen HDTV with cable (supports netflix, amazon, etc.). Modern high capacity washer and dryer reserved exclusively for guests.

If you're looking for your own spacious, private garden the setup is ideal. The outdoor space is slightly larger than the guest house. The deck is bordered by lights on a dimmer, which makes for great ambience after sunset. Large cacti, mature yucca and cypress trees, jasmine and potted plants/herbs surround the outdoor space. The deck is also cut around a tree which offers a canopy of shade in the warmer months. Enjoy afternoon naps in the hammock tucked under the apricot tree.

We provide clean towels, soaps, a hair dryer, iron, yoga mats, new scanner/printer, an acoustic guitar and a small Weber charcoal grill. We also offer hi-speed wifi via Apple's airport express router. You can also stream music wirelessly from your laptop to a 70's era Marantz amp (or plug-in your iPhone/iPod directly).

Traveling with children? We have a pack n play and some toys/books you are welcome to use. We also have a spare mattress. While the space is ideally suited for two people, several small families have enjoyed a comfortable stay. Feel free to inquire.

Guests have their own private entrance from the street. The outdoor space is also for guest use only (not shared).

We really enjoy meeting new people and making them feel at home. We are also totally cool with giving our guests all the privacy they need.

The location is ideal for Echo Park. We're nestled up in the canyon which gives a secluded feel but not way up a steep hill or at the end of the neighborhood, so walking to cafes and restaurants is still easy. The dash bus stop is a minute walk away. There is excellent coffee around the corner (Fix Coffee) and Elysian Park (the oldest and second largest park in LA) is just up the Baxter stairs.

Restaurants, cafes, bars, a yoga center and pilates studio, mom and pop shops, a gourmet boutique grocery market, a record store and music venues are within walking distance too.

Echo Park is funky and charming with historic architecture and a hillside landscape, carved up by walking paths and hidden stairways. The wooded hillsides make the northern edge of the neighborhood feel like an extension of Elysian Park, despite being located in the heart of Los Angeles.

The Dash bus is less than a minute from the front door (which will take you down to Sunset Blvd in 3 minutes). Silver Lake is our next door neighbor. Downtown is 5 minutes by car. The 2, 5, 101 and 110 freeways are all super close.

Other nearby neighborhoods include Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Chinatown, East Hollywood, Hollywood, Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena, which are all between 5 and 15 minutes away by car. LAX is 25 to 30 minutes, longer at rush hour of course.

We reserve our space for travelers and guests looking for a slice of home away from home. If you're looking to rent our space for film shoots and other commercial endeavors we're not interested.

We try our best to accommodate early checkins and late checkouts, but this is rarely possible when we have guests arriving and departing on the same day. Feel free to inquire, otherwise checkin time is 3 pm (or anytime thereafter) and checkout is 11 am.

What a great place! It was exactly what I hoped it would be. If I'm ever again looking for a place to stay in Echo Park, this is where I'll start.

Patrick and Sidonie were great. Parking was easy and Sidonie met us at the gate. The neighborhood was amazing and there are plenty of things to do near the house. Overall, it exceeded our expectations by a lot.

What a great place to stay when visiting LA. It's a very quiet and wonderful getaway from the hustle-bustle that can be overwhelming to those of us not used to the chaos of the freeways and clamor of tinseltown. The patio was wonderful for morning coffee and evening wine. And the apartment was clean with lots of added touches that made it feel like home. Definitely would stay here again.

Patrick and Sidonie's place was perfect for our two night stay in Los Angeles. They were great hosts and made things really easy for us. The place is perfect for a single person or couple. It's quiet, very clean and equipped with everything you could need. We spent a lot of time on the porch and loved the quiet neighborhood. Thanks to you both!

I had the good fortune to stay in Patrick and Sidonie's place for 6 days/nights. It somehow manages to be both central and secluded - close to major roads, highways, and downtown, while still having the luxury of being nestled in the privacy of the hills of Echo Park. It IS in LA and there are occasional distant city sounds, but at the same time, there's a quiet that settles into the area. Really the best of both worlds. It's a short walk from great little coffee shops which my friend and I loved. As someone who likes to cook, the kitchenette was PERFECT. Most mornings, I made french press with Stumptown beans they generously provided and had a filling breakfast on the gorgeous shaded patio before heading out for the day. A good friend of mine came for the first half of the trip, and we saved a lot of money by using the kitchen for breakfast and packing lunches. Bathroom was updated and clean, and there are plenty of towels. Comfy bed. All needs met and surpassed. There is no A/C, but in LA, this is not essential, especially at night. Patrick and Sidonie were prompt communicators with me always and understanding when I asked if I could add my friend to the reservation for 3/6 days. If you have time, I encourage you to invite them for dinner! Even though our visit was brief, they obviously take pride in providing a great experience for guests and it was so great to meet them. :) Also: I HIGHLY recommend the pink Walking LA book they have under the TV/stereo. I started with the Hollywood Bowl/High Tower walk, and moved my way back to Echo Park from there with a detour in Laurel Canyon. It was the perfect guide to experiencing LA and seeing all the great architecture (including two Frank Lloyd Wright houses!) without the crowds. Overall, an adventure I'll always remember fondly. Thanks again!

We are a fun family of three who like simple things. We're relaxed, courteous and treasure the dear friends and kind people who have stayed with us. Sidonie and Patrick met at CalArts about ten years ago and have resided in the area since 2005.
