About This Listing
This 1920's vintage 3 flat building is a relaxation zone. Located on the first floor, it is comfortable, clean and inviting. Perfect for the guest who likes calm.
The room is located off of the kitchen and is very private. It has a twin bed, night stand, dresser/desk and wardrobe. A coin operated washer and dryer, located in the basement, is available for use. The room can accommodate two people with a blow up mattress, but it will be tight. If you are just looking for a place to sleep this will work.
We are centrally located in Oak Park. Very close to the Hemingway House and Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. There are numerous parks and restaurants within walking distance to enjoy during your stay.
Transportation is about a 15 minute walk to either the Blue Line or Green Line trains (we Chicagoans call it an El or the subway). Both take you directly to downtown Chicago and the Blue Line takes you straight into O'Hare Airport. It takes about 8 minutes by car to the 290 on ramp to downtown Chicago or out to the western suburbs. Downtown Chicago offers a bounty of things to do and visit: museums, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and the Shedd Aquarium - just to name a few sites, and don't forget the theater.
I have one dog at any given time, sometimes two dogs, depends on whether or not Ava is visiting her friend, Maddie . Both are friendly but they are caged when we are not here, so coming and going is no problem.
This is a no-smoking environment but smoking is allowed outside.
All reservations must go through AIRBNB including last minute reservations.

I loved staying with Darlene. She is warm & friendly and her room is comfortable. Oak Park is a great area with some excellent restaurants (see Trip Advisor), close to transport & Frank Lloyd Wright house & studio. Easy to get to downtown Chicago. I can't recommend Darlene more highly.
Darlene was welcoming and accommodating. She showed me around the apartment, explained the bathroom procedures, and introduced me to her very sweet and well-behaved dogs. My room was off the kitchen and therefore very private. It was small but had every possible amenity. I was very comfortable there. She invited me to use the living room whenever I wished and assured me that I was welcome to come and go as needed. Darlene's household is relaxed with lots of coming and going of family and friends. I never felt that I was intruding. I would recommend this placement for persons who enjoy being included in the family dynamics. It is not a place for someone who is rigid or requiring absolute order. It is clean but has a comfortable vibe with lots of knickknacks and stuff around. I loved it and plan to stay whenever I need a place in Oak Park. The location is convenient to the El and downtown Oak Park.
I have ended up staying with friends in Chicago so have not really stayed at this place, but I have met Darlene ans she seemed a wonderful host. Her place is quiet, very clean and very well located, close to transportation [ 10 min walk] in a wonderful neighborhood.
Darlene was absolutely lovely! Very easy to get in touch with when I arrived into town, and extremely friendly and welcoming when I arrived at her cozy home. I have never used AirBnB before, but I was immediately put at ease, and never for a moment felt even a moment of discomfort in Darlene's home.
The room was perfect, very cozy and perfect for what I needed as a solo traveler. Darlene graciously provided towels and a water bottle, and was very relaxed and easy going. She even offered me an umbrella to use on Saturday which was *very* appreciated. Getting into the city from Darlene's was a total breeze, and it is a short walk up the street to the green line. Couldn't have been easier.
Overall, I would highly recommend this listing to any single traveler in the future!
Excellent Chicago location; easy access by car or train to suburbs or city ; Darlene is welcoming, and very responsive to text messages.
It was a nice stay in Chicago! Darlene was very friendly:) she took me to the station when I go back to the airport. And I liked her house! I'd like to come back when I visit Chicago again.
About the Host, Darlene
I have hosted exchange students in the past and enjoyed it very much. I have traveled all around the States, to several countries in Europe, and have been to Mexico a number of times. I have always enjoyed the experiences of travel. At this time in my life I have small passions: traveling, gardening, and a good glass of wine. I look forward to opening my home and meeting people from other places.
