Keauhou Bay offers several amenities that compliment the perfect island vacation.

There is snorkeling, diving, deep sea fishing, sunset cruises, snorkel trips, sailing adventures to Captain Cook, dock fishing, beach volleyball, kayak rentals and finish the day with the legendary night dive or snorkel with manta rays. All this is within a few blocks of the Sugar Shack at H-Bay.

John's house is perfectly located in Kona-Kailua. We could walk to a beach within 50 yards and spent much time down Ali'i Dr. in Kona. John was very responsive if we had any questions or issues and his caretaker for the house was very pleasant and helpful.

John's pre-arrival email ensures a smooth check-in and doubles as your itinerary for your time in Kona. Whatever you had planned, check it against John's email and adjust accordingly. The house is spacious, and has plenty of useful items left by previous guests (extra towels, beach chairs, etc.). AC is available in the master BR; the other rooms have ceiling fans, and those plus an open window keep the air circulating and the temperature comfortable. The 4 min walk to the lava pebble beach is tough to beat. 15 min walk to the grocery store and several other shops (see John's email). This is the perfect place for a family vacation or time away with friends.

The local knowledge in the pre-checkin email that you will get BY ITSELF is worth the price of this place. This guy really knows the island and gives you all of the inside information that you won't get elsewhere. The house is great, too. No A/C (except in the master bedroom) but it's in a convenient location and has a lot of space! Would definitely stay here again!

The Sugar Shack was the perfect HQ for our month-long stay on the Big Island. We had great access to everything we wanted to do, and on the days that we wanted to just kick back, the patio was an ideal spot. The ocean is a two-minute walk away. We chose to catch some of the sunsets from the shoreline that you can access by walking through the pathways of the condo complex at the end of the road. The view there is hard to beat, a full 180-degree view of the ocean. Would love to stay here again in the future.

My family and I had a wonderful time staying at John's place. The place is fully equipped with whatever you may need, and the deck provides a wonderful space for eating any meal throughout the day. I would suggest this place to anyone - especially those that are looking for a laid-back and cozy atmosphere.

We had an amazing week on the Big Island staying at the Sugar Shack and wish we were still there. The location is really convenient with shops, restaurants, and the waterfront very close by. We were very fortunate to have Ray there when we got there to give us lots of inside tips on things to see and do in the area. It was really warm in July so we were very thankful to have the air conditioning in the master bedroom. Thank you for opening your home to us. We hope to return again soon!

After living in Kona for more than 6 years work forced me to relocate for most of the year to NYC. I try to return to the Big Island a couple times a year. Its where my soul is rooted and home to the best people I've ever found anywhere.
