Enjoy this wonderful private home (Sugar Shack at H-Bay) new to the vacation rental market on Heeia Bay in the Keauhou resort area. Just a few steps to H-Bay where you can snorkel with turtles, surf or boogie board. Around the corner is Keauhou Bay. Keauhou Bay offers several amenities that compliment the perfect island vacation.
There is snorkeling, diving, deep sea fishing, sunset cruises, snorkel trips, sailing adventures to Captain Cook, dock fishing, beach volleyball, kayak rentals and finish the day with the legendary night dive or snorkel with manta rays. All this is within a few blocks of the Sugar Shack at H-Bay.
Four doors away is the entrance to Kanaloa where you can enjoy a Mai Tai at sunset or whale watch (Dec-Apr) while dining at The Grill & Bar at Kanaloa. You can also walk to the Sheraton across the bay and enjoy their restaurants, bars and oceanfront Luau. The Sugar Shack at H-Bay is across the street from the 11th fairway of the Ocean Course at the Kona Country Club. There is also a Mountain Course. A golfers dream!

We enjoyed the Sugar shack as our base for exploring the mainland of Hawaii. We spent 1 day on the Hilo side, and the travel was easy enough to make it back by 10pm. We were glad to not have to rent a house on the other side as well as this one. For the most part the kitchen had everything for bbq and food prep. The knives could definitely use an upgrade tho. The beach that one can walk to is very close, but it is not a swimming beach or very good for laying out in the sun. too much lava for many chairs to fit. We were there at high surf time, so not much of a beach. but fun to watch the waves from a place you can hike to -wear sturdy shoes tho, I got a thorn in my flipflop that went all the way thru and pierced my foot. Overall we would totally recomment the Sugar Shack for a family with 2 children and one couple travelling with the family. The bedroom with 2 twins is not the best arrangement for a married couple.
The house is large and easily accommodated our party of five. The location is very convenient to grocery shopping, restaurants and the downtown area. The house is, however, very tired. It needs a major facelift. With a little bit of work, including a good cleaning, it could be fantastic.
My family and I had a nice stay at the Sugar Shack. The location was great; we loved being able to walk to the Sheraton for a drink and and the view. The house is spacious, especially the large lanai which was perfect for eating meals on. The living room furniture wasn't very comfortable and the beds were ok. The twin bedroom was very small, but would work if you have children.
This home is in a great location. It's spacious comfortable and its location allows you to get places easily. We loved it here!
The house description is accurate. It was clean and provided a lot of extras: plenty of towels, sheets, snorkeling gears, condiments... That actually saved us a lot since we just had to buy food and that's it. Quiet neighborhood. There is even a small rocky beach in three minutes walking and you can enjoy waves crashing sound while having dinner in the lanai. Great experience for the price.
Our family (6 adults) stayed at the Sugar Shack for a week. The description is accurate - there's plenty of room without feeling cramped or crowded. It would be nice for a family with kids as well. The location is great - close to grocery stores and restaurants. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the lanai, relaxed in the jacuzzi, and walked down to "H" bay. John was unable to be there in person, but gave us detailed instructions for the house and lots of good info on restaurants, beaches and shopping. When we had any questions, he responded immediately. We would recommend the Sugar Shack and hope to return in the future - Mahalo!

After living in Kona for more than 6 years work forced me to relocate for most of the year to NYC. I try to return to the Big Island a couple times a year. Its where my soul is rooted and home to the best people I've ever found anywhere.
