Nature-lovers' dream! Perfect for couples, small families, surfers, fishermen, birders, hikers...and anyone looking for a secluded retreat in one of the world's most beautiful natural settings. ...Costa Rica's secret!
We are an off-the-grid property in the heart of the Osa peninsula, surrounded by pristine, solitary beaches and lush jungle. Wake up to the sounds of monkeys, macaws, and tumbling surf just outside your door. Just steps to a secluded beach with excellent surf. Walk to a nearby waterfall and world-class surf spots, and an internationally acclaimed restaurant and bar.
Individual, private cabin in a very quiet, secure, lush tropical property. Includes your own kitchen, and you can pick your own mangoes for breakfast, while watching the monkeys swing from the banana trees just off your front porch.
Cabins also include a private bathroom, fans, and refrigerator. Your cabina features hardwood floors throughout, and traditional Tico construction. Queen bed with mosquito netting, and safes. Free WiFi (yes, in the jungle) is also available.
Nearby day excursions include Corcovado National Preserve (home to some of the planet's greatest biological diversity) guided nature hikes, surf trips, birding, diving, sailing, and even whale-watching.
Out here, there are no high-rises, no electrical lines cluttering the view of the ocean, no noisy discos, and no crowds on the beaches...you will often have an entire beach all to yourself, even on weekends! At night, fall asleep to nothing more than the sounds of wildlife and waves.
Cabinas Ola Mar is one of the few places where you really can get away from it all!
Cute cabin near a beautiful, secluded beach. Friendly hosts create a nice vibe. And an excellent bar/restaurant is a 5 minute walk away.
Cabo Matopalo is a beautifully peaceful part of Costa Rica that I would definitely recommend visiting. We had heard such wonderful things and so we booked a small bungalow with Jim. We were greeted by David who was wonderfully friendly and acommodating with our early arrival. However, we had been travelling with our 18 month old. When we arrived we realized the bungalow was completely open air, and there was a mosquito or bug net covering the only bed in the house, and we had nothing for our son to be covered in at night. We were told there was wi-fi but when we arrived, were told we could pick up the wifi from the main house that jim and david reside in about 40 yards away. For anyone else this would be great, but we were mostly using it for the little guy to watch a cartoon at bedtime.
Thank god we rented a four wheel drive vehicle because we were not prepped on how rough the only road to matopalo is. It takes about 45 mins from PJ, and is very very rough. We would have been SOL without 4wd.
We realized this wasnt the place to have a little one after arriving. The beach was not safe at all for a little one to run around. Extremely rocky, and i mean boulders. We didnt even stay for an hour and asked David if there was any way he could refund us in the slightest for not staying. He replied with an unfortunate no.
Be prepared for a very adventurous excursion when staying here. I honestly don't feel we were briefed on the area properly with the host knowing we were travelling with a small child. I understand we had the place reserved but we werent even offered the extra person fee back of 20/ night. To be honest i think it is slightly overpriced. It is however a very earthy and peaceful area of the country that should be seen.
We were sad to see Lindsay and her family go. It is true that the Osa peninsula is a rugged, remote area, and like utilities like power lines, air conditioning, in-room internet expected in cities are hard to come by out here, and sorry it did not work out for them. We try to be clear about the remoteness and eco-adventure nature of our area and our property. I do want to respond that, prior to their arrival, we agreed to waive the extra-person fee for their child, which we did in fact waive, and that waiver was already reflected in the rate they received. But we were happy to meet Lindsay and her wonderful family and were happy to share this little slice of remote paradise with them for the time they were here.
The property is located in an small 'expat' off the grid community. We stayed in the teal color edcabin. The bed was comfortable and there was a great patio for lounging around. In the cabin, there were two double beds in the main room and a bed frame inside the bathroom (which was a litte odd). The surrounding area has lots of wild life. Don't be surprised to see monkeys in the garden (or on the roof)!
The kitchen was well equipped with a fridge, cooker (with oven) and even a blender for fruit smoothes.
There is beach a minutes walk from the property which is teeming with nature (crabs and birds). It a bit rocky when you exit the path, but if you follow it right or left it becomes more sandy!
There is a restaurant nearby that has a 'disco' night on Fridays.
Just worth noting, while there is Wifi in the main 'guest' area it doesn't reach to the rooms.
If you are looking to take a few days off this crazy life somewhere surrounded by nature and sea, Peninsula de Osa might be one of these privileged spots, every year more difficult to find since the stupid noisy tourism is spoiling the entire world. And if you choose this corner South West of Costa Rica (choosing Costa Rica is always a good idea, since 25% of their land is National Parks, nothing less, and the people are just awesome), you might consider this cozy lodges with everything you REALLY need: 4 walls, a bed with mosquito net, a bathroom, a kitchen outside surrounded by huge plants and monkeys, and the beautiful Jim and Tricia to make your stay comfortable and happy. We swam with dolphins en Bahia Dulce, made friends with a wild 300 kg tapir at Parque Corcovado, shared the waves with turtles, and saw all kinds of wild life night and day. No TV!!! These people know what they have, and are willing to share it with their peers.
Their dog Magie will make sure you are well guarded. A perfect place at a very reasonable price.
