Shanti Wasi is a beautiful base for exploring Matapalo and the Corcovado. The drive in to Puerto Jimenez takes about a half hour and is manageable with four wheel drive. The cabin itself was very clean and nice and has an open air feel as the screen does not go to the ceiling (as such there will be bugs). Think- glamorous camping. There was no hot water, which is absolutely fine and a great way to cool off from the heat and humidity. We had howler monkeys as neighbors every day, as well as an array of lizards, macaws, toucans, and squirrels. If you really want to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Osa, this is the place to be. Jim is a great host as well, and is very warm and welcoming and happy to answer any questions. I would highly recommend staying here.

Jim and Trish are warm hosts. Their property is gorgeous. Monkey, leaf cutter ants, Macaws, you name it. Just steps from a rocky and wonderful beach, not a long walk along the beach to Pan Dulce for surfing. The cabina was beautiful, kitchen was well-equipped. Two bathrooms and showers, so it would be really easy to share the space with several people. Loved it, highly recommend!

The place is very nice however, I was not given the cabin I had reserved on Airbnb. Traveling with my family of four, I I reserved the cabin with two bedrooms and three beds, but was put in the cabin with one bedroom and two daybeds. When I asked why this occurred, no answer was given nor was anything done to remedy the error. Groups traveling of three or more or families should communicate with the host before hand to ensure they will receive the cabin they booked online. Also a bit troublesome was that the wifi did not work in the cabins as advertised.

Shanti Wasi is a wonderful place to be. It is remote and beautiful and enchanted with wildlife. You live among the inhabitants of the jungle, especially monkeys. We saw squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, and howlers. One night a howler slept in the trees above our place! We saw frogs, an Armadillo, and other wildlife in our midst. The beach and rivers are walking distance as well as nearby walks to waterfalls. You can look at the night sky full of stars and spend time in the hammock. If you need anything Jim and Trish are very nice and helpful. You can eat at a nearby restaurant that is walking distance but otherwise stock up at BM grocery store in Puerto Jimenez. We plan to return to this wonderland soon!

Very comfortable spot to stay( except for the scorpions. Wonderful birds and monkeys from the front porch easy walk to beach or bar/restaurant, easy drive to Puerto Jiminez or Carate, lots to do and wonderful to just relax on the porch. Trish was a great spirit, very helpful and down to earth

Owner-Operator of Cabinas Ola Mar ( I've lived here on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica for 20 years. I love surfing and exploring. As a host, I am conscientious and here to help, as I know what it's like to travel and stay in a new place. I want to make sure all my guests have what they need to have the best time possible here in the very special place that is Costa Rica's precious Osa peninsula.
