This accommodation is located on the Bukit peninsula surrounded by rustic nature. It is far away from crowded tourist hotspots and nightclubs of Kuta and Seminyak and 30 minutes from the airport.
Though they are parties at Uluwatu, and you can always find cool restaurants with lots of cuisines and a supermarket 5 minutes drive from the resort. The place is traditional Balinese with thatched roofs. Located in a rural village surrounded by 12 mango trees and and a small garden where we grow our own salad, herbs and vegetables. All inside a spacious garden property.
Within a 10 minute drive you will reach the beautiful Balangan beach, famous for it’s left hander wave, and which works at almost all tides and swells. We will also explore other surrounding surf beaches such as Dreamland, Bingin, Padang Padang and Nusa Dua, including daytrips further north of the Bukit.
After an exhausting day of surfing you can lounge around the pool or chill under the shade of the mango trees in our hammock. The resort also has free WiFi to stay in touch.
The villa consists 3 double rooms with fan and mosquito net, there is a shared bathroom with hot water, kitchen, dining area and a TV DVD sofa lounge and pool.
If you’re looking for a little more luxury, we have a 2 room bungalow villa with one bathroom to share which includes hot water, air conditioning in one room and a private outside veranda with kitchenette and lounge area right by the pool. It is difficult to write negative stuff, because Manu was very nice and a positive person, and also we had fun and a good time anyways, but we had several problems during our stay. If this place would be a very cheap place I would have been okay with the things I did not like, but for this price one can find much better value in Bali.
The air-conditioning was not working at all, the room was full of mosquitos, even under the mosquito net, like 20-30 each when we arrived. I had a wasp nest in my room behind a picture frame with app. 20 wasp, which I did not remove. The room did not look clean, the walls have not been painted for a while, the plaster is missing in some places from the ceiling and wall. In the bathroom the toilet was dirty and the water does not flow down in the drain in the shower.
We had no privacy, because you can hear everything that happens under the roof. The breakfast was really poor, breakfast time was until 8-10am, the housekeeper came at 8, made the breakfast and left it there in the kitchen. If we eat at 10 (which we every day did), it was all cold and dry. I did not once meet her.
The garden was not tidied up once, old leaves were everywhere, the plants were lacking the looking after from a gardener.
All in all the place looked like it is not cared for. It looked like there is no life and love in it. Any place, even if it is very basic accommodation can be cleaned and maintained well. This place is not maintained well, which is a shame, because it could be such a nice place. Probably it would need a person, who fixes problems like the air-con, wasps, drains, and who generally is there every day to maintain the place, collect leaves, clean kitchen and common areas, change sheets, towels once in a while, etc.
This neighbourhood of Bali (Jimbaran) is a poor area compared to other beaches with surf spots, like Canggu. The streets and houses are not as well maintained, so it can look depressing for someone who saw just nice pictures of Bali. Well, they don't show the incredible amount of trash which is laying around this neighbourhood and also at Balangan beach. If someone is okay with that, and wants to see this aspect of Bali too, it is all good. Whole picture! :)
Still we had a good time here, not focusing on the things we don't like, but rather enjoying. It is sometimes good to stay in a place which is worse quality, than expected, and then to be happy in the next place for all the beauty and comfort an accommodation can offer for the same price.
I think the price should be lower or the quality of service should be better.
Peace and Love
The place is nice but you definately need to have a scooter to enjoy it. You need to be very independant as the setting is very remote and there is no restaurant or cafe nearby. A little bit of Bahasa Indonesia might be of help too ...
If you are tired of big cities, then its the best place to go. area is wonderful. people r great. im still missing German( manager of villa)! will probably come one more time!
The stay at Mangoo was probably my best place to stay in Bali.
The garden and the common areas are really nice and bring the people together.
Also the rooms have everything you need!
But the best thing is that you will meet really nice people with whom you can go surfing every day at the local beach balangan or somewhere around the bukit.
If that's what you're looking for it is a perfect place!!
I will come again when I'll return to bali.
The place is great, guys are very friendly and helpful. I miss them already!
Wow I had a nice time living in this frendly place. Nice room and spacious. Ale is very nice and lovely person. She do everything to make you feel well for the time your in the place.
We had such a great time staying at Balangan. Ed & Manu were so helpful throughout the booking process & made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Garden, pool & outdoor shower were all wonderful. Location is remote & rural which makes it ideal for seeing the real Bali away from touristy spots. Some good local food to be had & shop at end of street for essentials. Bikes needed to get to beach unless you like long walks, but taxi service easy to arrange too. It is a gem of a spot & we had a beautiful week. Thanks guys!
We had really great time in the villa except some inconveniences (temporary lack of water and poor breakfast), but it's Indonesia so we forgive :) The place is located in very quite area and the most reasonable way to explore the surroundings is renting a motorbike. We hadn't met Manu as he was on holiday, but Ed and Arif who were managing the villa were very nice and easygoing.
I can honestly recommend that place, so enjoy travelers :)
Could have been a very nice facility but getting run down. No hot water, toilet often broke, ran out of water, pipes all leak, dvd and tv did not work, bathroom cleaned occasionally but rooms were clean, no bed bugs, nice hanging out area and nice staff. Secluded and quiet with good access to surfboards and motobikes
