The Space

This charming room has a private entrance, queen bed, private bathroom with a shower in Travertine Marble. Small kitchenette with a microwave oven, small refrigerator, and coffee maker. It is a great place to come home and relax after a long day of sightseeing, or after a long day working.

We are locals and can offer a unique experience to visiting San Francisco. We offer our guests complimentary extra's including wine or tea in one of the famous Seven Sisters on Postcard Row, and or wine or tea on the owner's private roof deck with views of Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay upon arrangement.

We supply all linens, and towels, and offer light maids service ie: fresh towels etc.

We believe that so many of our guests have come back to us and have sent us their friends and families over the years, because "we are around as much or as little as you want". We believe in making people feel welcome and at-home, but also in allowing our guests space and privacy when they want it. It doesn't hurt that we also offer some pretty iconic homes in some of the best locations in San Francisco.

So what can I tell you that might make you pick us over all these other lovely properties on airbnb?

Location, Location, Location!

* Often photographed from the outside, the home is warm and welcoming inside... Simply, Comfortable.

We Offer Extras That No One Else Can Match:

* Should our guests wish- I love to share a glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage on the roof deck, (off my private living area in North Beach), overlooking the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge- by arrangement and weather permitting. I also give private tours of my family's home... one of the famous "Painted Ladies" or "7 sisters" on Alamo Square, (seen in Full House and many other TV shows and films).

* We are not a bad resource for guests looking for a memorable dining experience. George has written numerous San Francisco restaurant reviews for several national publications as well as a cookbook featuring San Francisco's Victorians, published for the Victorian Alliance of San Francisco. We can recommend places in all price ranges and cuisines.

* Upon request- guests planning a move to San Francisco can get a head-start on the market while staying with us. George is a licensed practicing Realtor, specializing in residential San Francisco real estate.

* Have a question about a movie or TV location? Historic places? Shopping? Architecture? Transportation? Theater or sporting Tickets? What to pack before coming? We are happy to answer any questions.

We are a half block to to six blocks of several bus lines and a block and a half to the Cable Cars that will take you all over the city. Two to six blocks from all of the wonderful restaurants, boutique shops and cafes. You can have a fantastic meal in the heart of North Beach!

We supply all linens, and towels, and offer light maid's service ie: fresh towels etc.

Host has published restaurant reviews in a national magazine as well as published a book highlighting San Francisco's architecture, history, and food. Host is also knowledable about movie locations and surrounding Bay area.

  • Absolutely great neighborhood. I walked down to work up at Pier39 each day and had breakfast around Washington Square park and watched the folks do Tai Chi. Comfortable stay. It was nice having my own private access and space since I was working odd hours during my stay. I'll definitely look to stay here again.

  • North Beach is a great neighboorhood if you want to be away from the bustling city and near beautiful tree lined streets, the Washington Square park and quaint restaurants. I met Amber and she was very responsive and invited us to meet her at George's mother's 'Painted Ladies' home for a quick tour and a glass of wine. This was nice since this was my 1st visit to San Francisco and I only had 1.5 days. If you want to go on the roof deck of the Lombard Street apt, I'd suggest letting your host know ASAP because that needs to be coordinated in advance and thus we weren't able to see views from up there.
Parking wasn't as difficult as I was expecting based on some of the inital reviews. We were able to park on the street from 7PM - 10AM and there was a garage very close (Powell, near Columbus) where we parked for the day for just 10$. We got our car by 6:30PM and then had flexibility to drive around beautiful Crissy Fields and see the GGB. We had to rent a car for a trip up north and since we were only in town for a brief period learning the public transportation routes may have been a bit much. We really enjoyed driving around the city a bit and were able to see so much.
The private bath and entrance was definintely what we were looking for. I was expecting the room to be a little bit nicer. I think new sheets, some basic toiletries (like tissues and soap), a sink that didn't clog and a shower that didn't run out of hot water so quickly would have truely made this space a home away from home. It felt a little musty and clamy so maybe a dehumidfier would help as well. All in all I was happy to stay in the North Beach neighborhood for a place to rest on our very quick trip to the city.

  • Great location on Lombard street in north beach. In Italian neighborhood and walking distance to China town and fisherman's wharf. Hosts are great. Very accommodating.

  • This is a really wonderful place to stay!

George and Amber are both great hosts and made us feel very welcome when we arrived! You could really tell that this wasn't their first time renting out this beautiful apartment. It was very clean and the bed was wonderful. Both the apartment as well as the neighborhood was quiet and calm. The most striking thing was the location, in one word; perfect! Situated in walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and with lots of nice restaurants in the area.

George and Amber where really helpful at all times and gave us lots of advice on how to experience San Francisco in the best way.

We truly recommend this apartment and would love to come back someday in the future! =)

  • Amber had some scheduling conflicts and was a little bit difficult to reach. I wasn't able to check in until about an hour after check in time. Because of this inconvenience, Amber upgraded my reservation and I was placed in a much larger room with a private bathroom. Very much appreciated. North Beach is a lovely, lovely neighborhood. The room was cute and clean. For the most part my stay was a positive experience.

  • Beautiful building in a fantastic location (you can see the famous part of Lombard St when you leave the door). The room is very spacious and has even has a microwave, also your very own bathroom. We encountered a little plumbing problem the first night; first thing Amber did when she came back the next day was fixing it. We'd definitely come again.

  • The location was great. Very close to the restaurants and sights in the heart of North Beach. Our arrival time changed multiple times and Amber was very accommodating. Thank you for that, Amber. The room was nice- comfortable bed, nice kitchenette and really great shower. Parking was difficult but we found several reasonably priced ($35/night) parking garages nearby. We felt very safe in the neighborhood. Walked back to the room after midnight without worries. We enjoyed our stay and would do it again.

  • I spent 3 nights at George's Lombard Street room, conveniently located near North Beach where my daughter and her boyfriend live. Though I never met George, all of my communications was with Amber who was super helpful and met me the night of my arrival. This is a clean, comfortable and quiet room with its' own separate entrance. I can't say enough good things about the neighborhood and access to many of SF's attractions. Don't forget to visit Cafe Capriccio for breakfast on Mason Street, just a 5 min walk away. I would stay again at George's in a heartbeat!

  • Location, location. location!!! George Horsfall's place was perfect. Walking distance to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, and the list goes on. The Laundromat and deli around the corner was very handy. For transportation, check out the F line trolley. It is the perfect way to get to the Ferry Building, China Town and the Financial Center. If you have the opportunity, join George and Amber at the Painted Lady. It is quite a treat.

Welcome to San Francisco. I love this city! It has been a great joy over time, to share my enthusiasm with the many guests who have visited here in my family's uniquely San Francisco homes. My family first came here in 1859 and I share their love of the city and it's raucous history. I have been spoiled in my life with many wonderful educational opportunities- in the United States, (California, Washington State, Cambridge, MA), and in Florence, Italy. Possibly my best learning moments have come from our guests who have come to us over the years from just about every part of the globe. I pride myself as having a good sense of humor, a good ear and an open mind. I love to listen to our guests' stories and hear about their life-experiences. My personal interests: travel (Cinque Terre, Amalfi Coast, All of Italy, Sweden, Austria, New York, are just a few faves), architecture, food, culture (music, theater ...), history, genealogy, and yes, San Francisco! Sometimes during the year I am away on the West Coast of Sweden visiting family and friends. In my absence, our friend Amber, is your host. You will be in excellent hands. I have three golden retrievers, Haakan, Ebba, and Elsa-Vega who live at one of the family homes on Alamo Square. They are available to the guests who wish to meet them when visiting the "Painted Ladies". Because some guests are allergic they are not allowed in guest rooms. I look forward to meeting you!
