My teenaged daughter and I loved this place! It has a groovy comfortable vibe. Host was friendly and welcoming. The common area was perfect for us during a fierce rainstorm and we spent the evening
reading and happy after a long day of hiking. Would definitely consider staying here again.
The host was a little late in showing up to let us in but was very helpful with providing a map and details about the area. The Sleeping Indian is located within walking distance of everything in town and there is a delicious kebab stand operated outside and to the left which I definitely recommend. It was a nice chill area and we were pretty much left up to our own devices which was good. This is a good place to stay if you want to be independent.
Heidi was there waiting for us at the Sleeping Indian and gave us the run down on the area and drew us a map of La Fortuna. She was great the entire stay and it was appreciated. It was great to have access to the kitchen for breakfast or eating in. The rooms are okay and have fans for cooling and I suggest you do not leave any windows open so that the mosquito's don't bite you all night. The sheets also smelled a little sour, probably from hang drying them in humid La Fortuna but not unbearable. Overall it was a good experience.
Located in center of La Fortuna makes this spot the right choice! Peter was very helpful and he pointed us to the right place whenever we needed - thank you! If we come again, we stay here again - which i guess says it all.
Heidi was very welcoming and my boyfriend and I enjoyed the common area at The Sleeping Indian. Unfortunately, we didn't sleep well either of the two nights that we stayed here. We both woke up covered in mosquito bites both nights, literally from head to toe. On Saturday morning, we were woken up by weed-sacking in the backyard from before 6am until 8am. The noise was so loud that we not only woke up but also chose to leave the room. I'm guessing that we were unlucky with these circumstances, as otherwise The Sleeping Indian would have been a pleasant experience.
The Sleeping Indian was a perfect place to stay: excellent location, beautiful decor with fantastic art, breeze blows right through the main space, bedrooms are clean with private bathrooms, shower was great. Heidy was fantastic - super friendly down-to-earth and very sweet. She gave us a detailed overview of the area and lie options and then booked a day-long tour for us. We have to come back one day to actually SEE the volcano (was clouded over our whole visit) so we would stay here again for sure!
This place was very nice, clean, and easy to find. Heidi was very nice and easy to communicate with. The price to do laundry was kind of steep ($5 each to wash or dry) but it was the only place we stayed that even offered it. We opted to wash and hang our clothes to dry on the line, but it was so humid that half of them didn't dry completely and ended up a bit mildewy. If you choose to stay in La Fortuna (we were much happier when we stayed a few towns over- Fortuna is just like one big souvenir shop), the Sleeping Indian is definitely a good choice.

About the Host, Peter
Peter Ferguson the owner of the The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse and welcomes international travelers from all over the world.. Peter is a world traveler who has explored many varied countries and environments and has chosen La Fortuna as his favorite place on the planet and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of this special area of a special country. The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse is centrally located in downtown La Fortuna named after a little chain of mountains next to Volcano Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The wind and rain of millions of years of evolution has formed a chain of mountains that looks just like a sleeping indian. The more you look- the more you are amazed, since it seems that these giant mountains actually are a big Indian lying down. We think that no matter what kind of traveler you are, everybody likes to feel at home. Making you feel at home is Peter's goal. He loves people and he loves hosting.
