Other Things to Note
Kitchen is available after 7:30AM so that others will not be disturbed from sleep
We are a non-smoking environment
You are welcome to use the kitchen equipment - please clean up completely so other guests can enjoy the same. If you have food in your room, make sure it is in a zip lock bag due to the fact that local ants are impossible to keep at bay when food is left out.
Otherwise, enjoy and ask any questions you might have about the area and travel arrangements we can make for you. Happy travels
Heidy welcomed us even if we arrived later than expected. She showed us the house and explained everything very well. We lived in room 5 which was rather spacious and clean and jas a very comfy bed. The location is just perfect since it's in the center of La Fortuna. There are many restaurants and some shops nearby, if you want you can also use the kitchen in the guest house. We really enjoyed our stay in The Sleeping Indian!
The Sleeping Indian Guest House is situated just off of the main street in La Fortuna, making it a great place to stay. The common area is quite charming, with a kitchen, sitting area, and balcony. The room we stayed in got a bit hot and humid (we stayed during the end of the dry season in room #4) - but a fan was provided to help with the heat. Overall, a great value!
Quite pleasant experience. Excellent location near the church and nice balcony to have a beer at the end of the day. Cold water was on and off in the shower but that was not too bad. Overall would recommend!
Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Peter (he was out of town) but Heidy was extremely gracious in answering our questions about buses in & out of La Fortuna, things to do nearby etc.
The place itself is quite cute, clean, sunny, and located in downtown Fortuna. Despite it being called a "hostel" you get a private room. My only (very minor) complaint was that our room (#4) was a little stuffy as you couldn't open the windows (or we weren't smart enough to figure that out!). But overall this is a great deal.
Sleeping Indian was a little oasis in the small but busy town of La Fortuna. Hosts were so welcoming and helpful with local information from restaurants to sights and hot springs. The rooms were basic but very large, clean, bright & the bed we had was super comfortable. The hangout/kitchen area is the center and the rooms all open to it, however we found that it didn't create any privacy issues and we felt quite private when we were in our room. The guesthouse is centrally located which makes it easy to get to everything.
We were not able to meet Peter since he was in California, but we met Heidi and she gave great advice on what to do in the area in terms of tours as well as showing us on a map the local town. The Sleeping Indian has a great common room with tons of space and a kitchen that we used in the early morning for breakfast.
Pete was off in California, Heidi was quite nice but it was disappointing to hear that there was no breakfast. Air BnB suggests by its name a certain standard and we felt this place did not meet those standards. The coffee provided was of an extremely poor quality, tea was one kind to 'help digestion'. No butter for toast or jam. You had to buy everything or go out for breakfast. There was an unpleasant odor in the room. After noticing that washed bedsheets stayed two days in the wasking machine I understood where the odor in the sheets on my bed came from. The common area is quite nice and the location very good, but it would be better if Pete stated clearly that there was no breakfast served contrary to all the other BnBs we were in while journeying in Costa Rica. Better care with the linens would improve the odor in the rooms.
it was a pity that this two ladies did not read our description well in the listing, and that she never told any of us her complaint of her stay. The website clearly explains that we do not offer breakfast, however we provide a refrigerator to put their food and complimentary tea and coffee. It was never expressed to anyone about the strange odors in their room, and every time we had asked how everything was they told us they were fine.
Our Coffee is the same quality that you find in every house in Costa Rica, it is grown locally so I do not understand what it was they were expecting. It is a shame that after asking how they were, that they did not take the opportunity to address this personal issue of theirs as most all of our guests have left more than satisfied with their stay.

Peter Ferguson the owner of the The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse and welcomes international travelers from all over the world.. Peter is a world traveler who has explored many varied countries and environments and has chosen La Fortuna as his favorite place on the planet and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of this special area of a special country. The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse is centrally located in downtown La Fortuna named after a little chain of mountains next to Volcano Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The wind and rain of millions of years of evolution has formed a chain of mountains that looks just like a sleeping indian. The more you look- the more you are amazed, since it seems that these giant mountains actually are a big fat Indian lying down. We think that no matter what kind of traveler you are, everybody likes to feel at home. Making you feel at home is Peter's goal. He loves people and he loves hosting.
