  • We enjoyed our stay at the sleeping Indian! It has a great location right in the middle of town. The receptionist was so kind and helpful when it came to figuring out travel plans, etc! It was nice to have a refrigerator to keep our breakfast food. Peter has wifi there which was also nice.

  • It was an amazing experiance. I felt like in a movie. Indian stiye, laid back atmosphere and a calm and relaxed experiance. I would go back and recomend it to all. Rooms are clean, the living room comfy, right in the midle of the charming village.

  • The Sleeping Indian is on a perfect location with a nice view on the actual sleeping Indian when the clouds are not around the volcano. La Fortuna wakes up early so don't expect to be able to sleep till late. Room is spacious and with a big living/kitchen area you have a nice place to relax, have breakfast and meet up with other travelers. Tours can be arranged on the spot for a good price!

  • Our host wasn't there and even before we went to La Fortuna, he did not answer our emails. The young woman who was in charge was delightful and very helpful. The location was very convenient.

  • A lovely place to stay in La Fortuna, centrally located, cozy and comfortable. Peter is an excellent host, knowledgeable about the area and happy to help you out with any questions -- especially when it comes to finding a place to eat (Soda Viquez!). Tours and tour operators know where The Sleeping Indian is, which is another nice perk -- especially when booking through Airbnb,

  • Peter's place was just ideal for a couple of nights in La Fortuna. We were greeted by Peter on our arrival and before we knew it we had a reservation for horseback riding in the morning and a complete rundown on the town including a recommendation for dinner at a restaurant just a few minutes walk from Peter's front door. His place is clean, friendly and overall just as expected. The only thing is that our room was very small with no windows and felt confining. But, after all it was only $45/noc so, who's complaining. Thank you Peter. You're a great host.

  • The Sleeping Indian is a really lovely hostel. Spacious shared area, lots of people staying and friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Peter was super helpful, full of ideas and information about things to do in the area. La Fortuna is a charming little town, and the location is great for visits to Arenal.

The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse
Peter Ferguson the owner of the The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse and welcomes international travelers from all over the world.. Peter is a world traveler who has explored many varied countries and environments and has chosen La Fortuna as his favorite place on the planet and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of this special area of a special country. The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse is centrally located in downtown La Fortuna named after a little chain of mountains next to Volcano Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The wind and rain of millions of years of evolution has formed a chain of mountains that looks just like a sleeping indian. The more you look- the more you are amazed, since it seems that these giant mountains actually are a big fat Indian lying down. We think that no matter what kind of traveler you are, everybody likes to feel at home. Making you feel at home is Peter's goal. He loves people and he loves hosting.
