We are a non-smoking environment
You are welcome to use the kitchen equipment - please clean up completely so other guests can enjoy the same. If you have food in your room, make sure it is in a zip lock bag due to the fact that local ants are impossible to keep at bay when food is left out.
Otherwise, enjoy and ask any questions you might have about the area and travel arrangements we can make for you. Happy travels
Great experience: we arrived mid-afternoon and both Peter and Heidi were very welcoming and quickly explained house policies and recommended nearby restaurants & a wonderful bakery. After reviewing the options, we selected a canyoning tour for the next day which Heidi booked for us. Payment was easy - thru PayPal to Peter's account. Then we drove to the Falls and took a swim (too far to walk unless you want to make it an all day trip). Their location in town is convenient but sometimes a little noisy. Peter left that night to travel to the US, but Heidi took care of us the next 2 days (she's normally there noon to 6). We enjoyed comparing notes with other travelers and we would stay there again.
Peter and Heidy made us feel very welcome. They greeted us upon entering and Heidy helped us a lot to find great tours. She gave us several options for activities like the hot springs, zip-lining, and hikes led by a guide. This helped us find just the right activities for our budget and our interests. Peter also called a zip-lining company to help us get a $5 discount.
The room felt a bit humid and muggy since it had been raining for 3 days, but I guess that is to be expected since Fortuna is basically in a rain forest.
The kitchen was very useful for cooking breakfast each morning. That was a very helpful feature in this hostel.
This was my first experience of a guesthouse and it was great! It completely added to our experience of La Fortuna. Peter was a great host, very welcoming and friendly. The house is really relaxing, great vibes and the other guests reflected the chilled atmosphere. The room was clean and efficient. The only downside is it can be quite noisy at night with passing traffic. But all in all it was a very pleasant stay. Thanks Peter!
Chambre confortable mais sans plus. Cher par rapport aux autres offres sur place
Our brief but eventful stay in La Fortuna was incredible, thanks to Heidi! She gave us such helpful suggestions on what to do, giving us options that ranged from free to practical to splurge (great when you're on a budget, which we were). Once you've decided, she makes all the arrangements for you so you don't have to worry about anything.
The place was homely and had everything we needed-- plenty of common space so we could interact with fellow travelers, but also had little nooks like the balcony or a corner couch in case you wanted to read on your own. Either way, I'd definitely recommend to arenal-bound travelers!
We enjoyed 4 nights at the Sleeping Indian. Heidi was there to meet us and help us with an introduction to La Fortuna which was great. The best recommendation was Kappa Sushi - a must do if you like Sushi.
Location was superb, having the use of the kitchen was a big plus due to the high cost of dining here, nice to meet and chat with other travellers in the common area.
The room was basic, with a small bathroom, for us it was a little dark the dimmed lighting doesn't suit our style.
But overall a nice stay - thank you.
I had a great time at the Sleeping Indian! Heidi was so helpful and accommodating, and gave great advice as to where to eat and what to see. The room had everything I needed and the common area was a great place to chill out. I wanted to stay for longer!

Peter Ferguson the owner of the The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse and welcomes international travelers from all over the world.. Peter is a world traveler who has explored many varied countries and environments and has chosen La Fortuna as his favorite place on the planet and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of this special area of a special country. The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse is centrally located in downtown La Fortuna named after a little chain of mountains next to Volcano Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The wind and rain of millions of years of evolution has formed a chain of mountains that looks just like a sleeping indian. The more you look- the more you are amazed, since it seems that these giant mountains actually are a big fat Indian lying down. We think that no matter what kind of traveler you are, everybody likes to feel at home. Making you feel at home is Peter's goal. He loves people and he loves hosting.
