Little Kehena is a prime location (natural Hawaii) and has been the best kept secret on the island for years. It is now becoming more popular and visitors are returning. This area is a major contrast to Kona, which is known as a tourist hot spot. So, if you want a quiet, peaceful place and want to see 'real Hawaii' - this is the place for you!
It is also near the recent lava flows and Volcanoes National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geo-thermically heated ponds, snorkeling w/ spinner dolphins and the whales that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska in winter months. You can often see breaching whales out in the water from our lanai, just several yards off our beautiful coast . Many of my tenants have told me that they were able to swim w/ the spinner dolphins as well - and you can too at the world famous 'Kehena Black Sand Beach' !
This is the place for water lovers and people who want to get away from the crowds of tourists in other parts of the island.
From your lanai, you will see coconut trees swaying w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean .
We also have the best and safest snorkeling grounds just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from our cottage at Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'.
For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.
The cottage looks small but actually is spacious and is a comfortable . The high ceiling cottage has one bedroom w/ queen bed, full bath, living/dining area and 'food prep area' but has a stocked pantry w/ goodies and a prep place for simple meals. Plates/utensils, induction hotplate/convection table top oven/refrigerator/Microwave/blender/coffee w/ coffee maker are provided.
There is also a Hawaiian rock BBQ w/ sink & utensils just outside which is situated in a tropical garden w/ ocean view.
It can't get much better than this. We have a laundry room as well and soap is included .
It can sleep up to 4 w/ sofa bed (firm) or full sized Futon - your choice.
This cottage is just 8 miles from Pohoiki Point (surfing area) and the famous Kapoho snorkeling waters are also near by and remain popular snorkeling, surfing and swimming areas. Compare our rates to those in Kapoho - you will love our place.
Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive where you can walk through Thurstons Lava Tube and look in to Kilauea Caldera.
You will love Kehena in the Puna District of Hawaii.
For those couples w/ babies, we have 'PACK & PLAY ON THE GO CRIB' for the little ones.
We also have a washer /dryer in the utility room for everyone to use, Wi- Fi internet, landline (party line), and Direct TV.

Our experience at the dolphin cottage was excellent our host met us promptly, the space was clean and well equipped. Sounds of tree frogs, falling rain and crashing waves filled the night like a symphony. Also the view from the lanai through the palms facing the ocean was a relaxing spot to read and dine.
The cottage is very spacious and the porch has a great view of the ocean. There is a small black sand beach across the street, however it is down a very steep path. Everything is a fair amount of driving away from this cottage, too, so be prepared. The restaurant that Susan and Andre recommend in Pahoa, Kaleos, is absolutely delicious! The town of Pahoa is an old hippie town with lots of colorful characters. The Kapoho tide pools are nearby and that was some of my favorite snorkeling in Hawaii.
We arrived late and Andre was very patient and kind, waiting for us. When we arrived he was very helpful giving us advice on where to eat, snorkel and visit locally, giving us a map and he explained how everything worked at the cottage.
The dolphin cottage was lovely to stay in although the building work next door spoilt having breakfast on the lanai a bit but that can't be helped. The view was incredible and it's a few minutes walk to a lovely secluded black sand beach.
Overall, a great experience and will definitely go back. You can't beat that view in the morning.
Excellent endroit pour séjourner. A notre arrivée, André, très accueillant nous a donné une carte de l'île avec les choses à faire dans le coin. La vue sur la mer depuis le balcon est magnifique. le lit était très confortable.
Dolphin Cottage is a cozy hide away off the beaten tracks, close to a small beach. It’s a good location to explorer east and south coast and close to Hilo. Susan and Andre are perfect hosts, very concerned easy to talk to and flexible on arrival times.
We liked this cottage very much. The location is nice across from the beach. Andre met us to let us in and answer our questions about the area, something we appreciated. The kitchen is well-stocked with plates and utensils.
I wish there was a screen on the french door so that we could leave it open for the breeze; however they did supply several fans, so it wasn't too hot.
Overall, this place is a bargain in a good location and I would recommend it to others.
Andre met us at the Cottage and since we had our grandson who would be sleeping on the sofa bed immediatley left to get us sheets etc for him. We called from the pre set location and he was there when we arrived. Great people for sure!
