  • What a disappointing week. I shouldn’t say this boat ruined my vacation, because Captain Justin clearly told me that it, in fact, did not when I discussed this with him over the phone. He warned me a day before I arrived that the air conditioner in my children’s rooms were broken. Unfortunately, the parts that were needed didn’t come in on time, so we wouldn’t have air in the front cabins. He put fans out. I understood. He was doing his best. My husband’s family lives in Charleston, so my two daughters could stay with them.

I love sleep. In fact, that is one of my favorite parts of a vacation. To our chagrin, we had to be out of the boat by 9 am, so that the air-conditioning could be fixed. Ok. Well, it didn’t get fixed. I was irritated, but it wasn’t any fault of Captain Justin. That was our second night with no air and our second morning kicked out again at 9am. That night once the air conditioner was fixed, it got so cold it blew a fuse; by morning the front cabins were hot and unbearable again.

Captain Justin immediately came and reset the fuse. Fourth and fifth night no problems with the air but the kids were done with the “yacht.”

Then there was the toilet. It kept breaking so here comes the Captain to fix it. We were instructed to go into a cupboard across the boat, screw in a light bulb, flip a switch and wait a full minute and push a lever in - every couple of hours– he shrugged it off as no big deal.

Day four and five it poured down raining(as it does in Charleston most summer afternoons)and the boat leaked on our clothes and all the beds. Captain Justin felt this too was only a minor problem and was angry and surprised by how upset I was.

Since we couldn’t use the front cabins for two days he offered to refund us $60 for each night. Frankly I wanted more money back as my kids only stayed on the boat the one night due to how uncomfortable their quarters were. He said repeatedly that he would speak with the owner of the boat. Two weeks have gone by and I haven’t heard back from him, the boat owner or received a check for $120.

All in all, the boat is like a grande dame hotel, it was once fancy but now it is a bit dingy and tired. Stay at your own risk as Captain Justin said repeatedly, “the boat is 50 years old.” For me though, you’ll find me enjoying the Charleston sunset from the rooftop bar at the Vendu Inn for the same price, closer to it all and without the hassles because as Coco Chanel is famously quoted, "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury."

  • We had a wonderful time on the Rhapsody in Blue, and Cpt Justin was a great host. The location is perfect and convenient to everything we wanted to do. The boat is in excellent shape and much more comfortable than any hotel room. We will certainly book this again, and would recommend it to anyone.

  • The stay was GREAT! Justin met us at the marina even though we arrived late in the evening. He showed us the boat and what we needed to know about living on a boat. The Rhapsody in Blue was a great place to stay and I'd do it again when in Charleston. The view was great and it was so peaceful. The boat is very nice and roomy. We had to call him a couple of times about some minor issues, and he was very responsive.

  • Justin was very friendly and helpful! We had a great time!! The front deck is absolutely the best- looks out over the harbor, great place for sunset/sunrise. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • We spent my daughter's spring vacation in Charleston and it was my first time seeing the city. This boat provided the perfect location to see the city during the day and relax by the water and pool at night. We cooked breakfast and dinner on the boat and it had everything we needed in the kitchen.

Since the boat was docked at the end of the pier, we had great views, too! I would highly recommend!

  • Capt Justin was a very laid back gracious host. Communications throughout the experience were fantastic. Though we had to be placed on another yacht for our stay, both boats were beautiful and perfect for an on the water get away. Everything you could possibly need is at your fingertips.........additional facilities, food & drink, water taxi to Charleston across the bay and the daily sites & sounds of a port town. We had a perfect bird's eye view for Charleston Race Week the largest sailing event in the country. Thank you Justin and airbnb!

  • My friends and I had a great stay on the yacht earlier this week. Justin was very helpful and made sure we understood the ins and outs of living on a boat. The boat was comfortable and the views from the deck were fantastic. The added addition of a pod of dolphins cruising by early in the morning was pretty awesome too!

  • THE best weekend trip we've ever had! The boat is absolutely gorgeous. The unobstructed views from the deck represent the best that Charleston has to offer: breathtaking sunrise and sunsets, the Ravenel Bridge, Waterfront Park, Fort Sumter, the Yorktown, the yacht club and the frolicking dolphins. You can't find a better location to stay. We can't wait to go back.
