About this listing
Our two bedroom unit is centrally located in Capitola, within walking distance of almost all necessities! There is another unit on the property. This is a month-to-month rental, with a longer lease possible. Maximum of four guests, no dogs please.
We offer a two bedroom unit within walking distance of the Capitola Esplanade and Capitola Main Beach (10-15 minutes). We rent for 30 days or longer.
The kitchen has new appliances: a gas stovetop, double oven (one of which is a convection oven), new refrigerator, new dishwasher, new composite sink with a touch-operated faucet on new porcelain tile. There is a counter that seats four people between the kitchen and the living room.
There will be Gayle's muffins, coffee, tea, milk in the house when you arrive so you don't have to go out first thing the following morning.
If you are staying for a week or more, we offer cheese and crackers, and a bottle of wine.
The house has a Hawaiian influence...with island colors on the walls...light green in the living room and blue in the master bedroom. The bedrooms are very roomy and the queen beds are comfy! The outdoor shower in the back patio is private and warm. Is is wonderful to enjoy the outdoor sky while showering, at any time of the day or night!
There are many wonderful restaurants on the Capitola Esplanade within walking distance. You can watch the sunrise, moonrise, and the sunset over the water. There are surfers at the jetty. There are kayaks for rent on the Capitola wharf, stand-up paddle boards (SUP) and sur(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)oards for rent in Capitola Village during the summer. We provide beach chairs, a beach umbrella, boogey boards, and beach towels.
Our place is within walking distance of Peet's Coffee, the Capitola Post Office, Gayle's Bakery, CVS drug store, Nob Hill food store, and all the restaurants on the Esplanade. Shadowbrook Restaurant is a close walk over Soquel Creek, also.
We are close enough to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Big Sur for day trips. You can also drive up the coast towards Half Moon Bay. The beautiful campus of University of California Santa Cruz is minutes away by car, as is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the new Sanctuary Exploration Center (URL HIDDEN)
There are Wednesday night concerts during the summer at the beach for no charge! There is a bus stop across the street from our place, which goes towards the south county.
We have a nice gas grill on the adobe paver patio in the back yard, with a redwood picnic table that seats eight people.
The Capitola Mall is within walking distance, by following a path over the Soquel Creek. There is off-street parking for one car in our driveway.
We live here during the school year, so the cupboard and frig are stocked with condiments and spices you might use for cooking. Fresh rosemary and mint grow in the front planter box. We also have a Meyer's Lemon tree on our property.
We have hardwood floors, so there are few allergy issues in the house. There is a piano; you can enjoy playing the piano if you're so inclined!
There are two other units on the property: the other half of the duplex and an artist's studio, which my son (a college student) occasionally uses in the summer to change from his work clothes to his wetsuit. If he is around, be sure to ask him where the best surf is! He is very sweet and works during the day when he is in town. We travel for much of the summer to Hawaii, Santa Barbara, the Sierra, and to warm lakes. We like to SUP and water ski and wake board without wetsuits when we can.
There is a wine tasting business right around the corner from our house, and also a mini-brewery! You can walk to it! The maps are in the house.
Both showers have shampoo and conditioner available. We provide yummy shower robes for your comfort and convenience.
We have plenty of maps, tide tables, and restaurant menus here at the house. Our place has easy access to Hwy 1.
AND, we did replace the iron and now have a new toaster, also (woo-hoo!)
Back adobe paver patio with outdoor shower, front flagstone patio, all of the house, and the driveway has one off-street parking area.
Interaction with guests
Normally, a short introduction (if we are home) and not much more unless we both desire more interaction. If you are fortunate to stay here while we are in town, stand up paddleboarding is sometimes an option at 7 am. We go out every morning or two when we are in town.
We love the central location: easy freeway access, walking distance to Peet's Coffee, CVS Pharmacy, Nob Hill Grocery store, Post Office, Capitola Esplanade and Beach, Gayle's, Capitola Library, Shadowbrook Restaurant, the Capitola Wharf, which has music on weekends in the summer! There are Wednesday night concerts on the Esplanade during the summer months, also!
Buses nearby, walking (entire neighborhood is friendly), there are shuttle-buses from SFO and SJC airports. There is a seasonal beach shuttle several blocks away that takes you to the beach every 10 minutes or so.
We will lend our bicycles and helmets for a day!
Other things to note
We have central heating, and a gas fireplace insert in the living room (and we turn off the pilot light in the summer, to save energy and keep the house cooler), both on thermostats.
Please limit the number of guests to four. We appreciate you keeping our place as nice as you found it. Please put the dishes in the dishwasher before you go. We will wipe down the stainless steel appliances with a special formula and cloth.
If you have kids or grown-ups that might not be the best caretakers of our fabric couch, we would appreciate it if you would remind them not to eat on the couch (the dining room table is close by!) We would also appreciate it if you would use the fabric throws that we have available to cover the parts of the couch that might easily get soiled, most notably, the top of the couch, where folks might inadvertently soil it. (we know...we live here!) When there are children in the house, we would appreciate it if you would put sheets on the couch cushions, as sometimes they put their feet on the couch without thinking about it, because it is such a comfortable place for kids to hang out!
Please hang your wet bathing suits and beach towels outside on the patio. The garbage and recycling are on the street side of the house and get picked up on Wednesday mornings early, so we put them out Tuesday night.
We have a cat (Ms. Chloe), who has her own place, and she may use the patio when she wants. We may ask you to feed her if we are not in town, as she is on a diet to help her gain weight. Let's talk about feeding Chloe if we are not in town.
We appreciate you treating our house as though it is your own. We have recently had the house re-painted inside, so we would appreciate it if you would take care of our new walls, kitchen cupboards, base board, and trim. We love coming back to our home after an extended absence!
No smoking in the house, please!
Enjoy your stay!
I moved to Santa Cruz in 1988 and was hired by the Santa Cruz City Fire Department. I have another home in Hawaii, where I grew up. I love to travel. We don't do vacation rentals in this part of Capitola. There is a bit of an island flavor in this house...fern green in the living room, and sky blue in the bedrooms. The kitchen has been remodeled and we included original hand-painted ceramic tiles of scenes from Hawaii. The bathtub tile trim is the color of the water in Hawaii.
Our place is named after my cat, Chloe, who was left on our doorstep as a kitten 16 years ago.
We prefer no toddlers or pets, as some of our furniture is new, now that there are no children living in the house! Chloe is restricted to the back patio and if you would like to feed her, she loves the attention!
We love house trades (after I retire this summer). We welcome folks from all around the world and would love to come visit you sometime, too!
We hope that you will enjoy your stay and the house as much as we do!
