Everyone who lived there was really lovely. I especially appreciated that Phil told me not to do dishes because he would take care of them. I wasn't around much to get to know everyone, but always felt welcome to hang out if I had been available. The room is big and comfortable and the location was great. Walking distance are a Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Noah's Bagels, and Trader Joe's, in addition to some good local places.
I spent a month with Philip while doing a rotation at UCDMC. The house was conveniently located next to BUS80 so it was only a 10-20 minute drive to the hospital depending on traffic. It's also right next to Trader Joes and a few restaurants. The room I was staying in was clean and quiet. There were three other male guests and Philip all staying at the house while I was there. I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Overall it was a nice experience!
This was my first airbnb experience, and it was just what I was looking for. At Phil's GaustHaus you aren't a guest, you are a roommate. The vibe is urban farm, with chickens roaming the backyard and rainwater collected for use in the garden. The decor is more "Mother Earth News" than "Better Home and Gardens", and that's my style, so I felt right at home.
