Large private bedroom with a private 1/2 bathroom!
It has one small window, large office desk, dresser, nightstand, and a hanger rack. There is a spiral staircase that leads to the kitchen. A private door from the room that leads to the backyard/garden. Keep in mind that it is not very sunny. It is great space for those who like to sleep in late, Its very quiet, great for those who are looking for a peaceful spot to escape the city.
Guests will have access to the whole apartment. Kitchen, shared bathroom with shower, washer/dryer and backyard/garden.
Interaction with Guests
Three other rooms in the apartment are rented on this site. You may have interactions with other guests in the common areas. I work very long days so you may only see me on occasion. My roommate Dave is home more often, he serves as a host when I am not there. I am always reachable by phone or text. You can view my other rooms under the "Other Listings" section.
The neighborhood is a Puerto Rican immigrant community. This area of Bushwick is at the beginning of getting 'hipster' bars and coffee shops. It is a vibrant neighborhood, specifically in the warmer months, and can be busy at times outside the house but generally quiet inside. I like to remind guests to keep noise to a minimum being that it is a shared space.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS VERY SAFE. I have been here for 10 years without any issues. My guests have never had any issues as well. There are many people around on the streets at all hours. We are right next to the train for those who are out late in the evening as well.
We are 1 block away from the L train, 15 minutes to the city and a few blocks away from the JMZ train.
USE HOPSTOP FOR DIRECTIONS!
It is also available as an app. This will tell you much more clear detailed instructions on getting here from the airport and getting around the city in general.
Bushwick car service is another service I use.
The house is approximately:
20 minutes away from LaGuardia Airport
25 minutes away from JFK Airport
35-45 minutes away from Newark Airport
(these are average times with minimal traffic)
Other Things to Note
The rooms are cleaned before arrival and upon exit. Fresh linens and towels are provided. I unfortunately do not provide toiletries. The second bathroom with shower is shared and can be busy at times in the morning, I like to remind all guests to please keep bathroom time to a minimum for other guests.
CHECK IN TIME IS 2:00 and after
CHECK OUT IS 12:00 NOON
I unfortunately do not store luggage or personals after checkout time.
The earliest guests can arrive is 2:00 to allow former guests to depart and rooms to be cleaned.
There is a quick turnover with guests and exchanging keys is difficult with my work. Please arrange travel accordingly.
In the pictures section you will see a lockbox, this is how keys are exchanged with guests 50% of the time because of my schedule. I will leave a detailed message on how to use with code once the room is booked.
Unfortunately I do not allow guests under age or any one with serious medical issues due to liability.
Profile pictures are also very helpful to have up; it's nice to have a face with a name.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS WHEN STAYING SO WE CAN QUICKLY ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
I try to keep everyone happy who stays with us, please communicate any concerns before leaving.
Please keep common areas clean (kitchen/bathrooms)
Please be mindful of noise for other guests
Please keep parties outside house
Mark's apartment is large and clean. Location is great and he was quite helpful and direct about logistics. I recommend it.
I had a very pleasant stay with Mark in Brooklyn. We didn't get the chance to meet, but he was very available and checked in with me regularly. The room was nice and tidy, I stayed in the basement, which is a room with a private bathroom and has access to the yard. It has a good bed, actually evertything you need to make you feel at home. It's a nice neighbourhood, the house is very near to the metrostop on the Kalb, the L line will take you to Manhattan in about 15-20 minutes. Towels are provided for, you'll be able to cook your own meal instead of having to go out for dinner which is a bit expensive in NYC if you have to do that every night. I would immediately recommand this place to other guests.
Mark was a very nice host! We never saw him, but he was easily available for help when needed and flexible. The room was nice and clean, and in a very accessible location due to the subway, making it easy to get to Manhattan or other places.
Wonderful stay! I was sad I didn't get to meet Mark but the apartment was wonderful and very clean.
After spending a week in NYC and more specifically at Mark's AirBnB, I would reccommend his place without any hesitation. First the room that my friend and I choose is located in the basement and comes with its own private washroom and easy access to the garden out back (ideal for smokers). I will definitely be staying here again.
The area is conveniently located close to both the L train (Dekalb) and M train (Knickerbocker) either takes you to various points in Brooklyn or alternatively straight into Manhattan.
If you are looking for an 'authentic' NYC experience, this particular neighbourhood will do the trick. It has character. Plus, it has everything you can possibly imagine a few feet away from the apartment, to make your stay more enjoyable (bars, grocery stores, coffee shops, all types of food/takeout, transportation) and a diverse population of individuals who call this area home .
Safety? I never felt uneasy walking around at all hours of the night/morning. You have a better chance of being hit by lighting than being a victim of crime. Don't believe the misconceptions, this is 2015 not the 80s NYC.
Both Mark and Dave are so accommodating and are always available if you need anything. I enjoyed when both were around as we shared a laugh or two. The check in and check out procedure was seamless.
In closing, stay at this place. Manhattan is overrated and is becoming generic and boring. Enjoy this lively and unique part of NYC before gentrification ruins it.
Thanks again Mark and Dave!
PS- One final tip of advice, if you plan on staying in NYC for a week, please do yourself a favour and buy a weekly pass for $31 bucks. It's worth the investment. Plus, you'll be surprised at how much money you save in the long run.

About the Host, Mark
I am an artist originally from Rhode Island. I have been living in Bushwick for over 10 years. My roommate/friend Dave is a musician and here to help when I am not available. As a host I like make myself available if needed but otherwise try to give all guests their privacy.
