A permaculture acreage located within minutes of arguably 'the most' breathtaking surf breaks in Bali; this eco-conscious living property would be best enjoyed by travellers with the environment, nature and the culture of Bali at the forefront of their interests.
There’s a certain ideal ‘fit’ for this accommodation community. And we are primarily interested in hosting guests who want to learn and share their knowledge in care giving to the future of our natural and cultural environment - sometimes that's as simple a thing as being mindful.
30 minutes south of the Kuta & Seminyak tourist traps is the real Bali; 'The Bukit' Peninsula's secret wonderland Pandawa beach and bushlands. Secret surf breaks, empty golden sandy beaches, and laid back villagers of yesteryear still exist here. You'll unlikely see another westerner in this entire neighbourhood; yet it's not far to all of their haunts should you wish to get amongst that too.
Pandawa beach is on Bali's most magical southern tip, 'The Bukit Peninsula', and it contains hands down, Bali's best swimming, snorkelling and surfing beaches. The crystal azure waters that wet the sand here are Pandawa Beach, Green Bowl, Bali Cliff, Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin, Dreamland & Balangan.
Green Tara permaculture acreage is tickled by the cool sea breezes. It is located at the end of one of Pandawa Beach's long hilly roads leading into farmlands. When night falls, the only noises you can hear surrounding the property will be geckos laughing and cicadas singing. It is a completely private eco permaculture acreage in the making. Everyday we're setting up new composting, edible gardens, and a vista of tropical flowering plants.
When we took over this property in March 2013, we did it with the vision of providing an inspiring environment in order to offer our gratitude to all Bali has given and continues to give us, and everyone who comes here.
The Entire Bukit Peninsula is only 10 x 15 klms in radius and encased in a coral reef. So depending on the tides, winds and swell it will produce completely different surfing conditions all over The Bukit at different times of the year. We are in the prime location to access all of these places. If yoga is your thing, there are plenty of places to practise in the yoga bales at my local beach, at my property or in a daily class down the road in Uluwatu or Jimbaran.
This property is newly built, clean and in immaculate condition. It has edible gardens to enjoy, an outdoor communal kitchen and lounge / library area equipped with DVD, TV, HDMI cables and loads of awesome books.
This is nature reserve; a permaculture farm set alongside eco-friendly accommodation. It’s for those of you who like getting as close as it gets to nature and Bali's culture without forsaking the majority of your western comforts. It’s a chilled out place ideally suited to single travellers. You'll also get to know other chill expats and travellers as I have many wonderful friends and long term guests.
Our focus on all guestrooms is quality and eco sustainability. The fan-cooled rooms are furnished with new high quality mattresses, custom made coconut wood slat bases, and hypo-allergenic pillows and bedding. Rooms are serviced for cleanliness Monday – Saturday by our lovely housekeeper Ketut.
Eco House Room Rates:
1 week: USD 140 + cleaning & airbnb fees
1 month: USD 300 + cleaning & airbnb fees
Cleaning fees are USD 20 per week. All rooms, all common areas and bathrooms are serviced every day except Sunday.
There is no public transport in Bali. You will need to hire a scooter or hire a car if you stay here. I organise transfers to the property and can have scooters delivered from a trusted local outlet.
Lessons in riding a scooter are available for USD 40 (3 lessons). If you’ve never ridden before, you'll need at least three days to practise before you hit the busier roads.
Internet data for your device (Ipad, tablet or smart phone) is available for USD 10 per 5 gig.
Please note: as this is a conscious living community property - we request that your usage of internet in the common areas of the property is limited. It's not a strict rule, it's a reminder to be mindful that this is a community set up to facilitate down time with yourself, connections with other humans and nature instead of constant contact with technology.
If you would like to stay with us, when you apply, ensure you have a complete profile (photo, and uploaded offline Passport ID). Because this is a home – not a hotel we are looking for the right fit of people to stay here, and unfortunately we can’t say yes to everyone.
Before we can offer you a space, please help us figure out if you’d be a good match for Green Tara by sending us a message letting us know a little about yourself and your plans in Bali.
Warm wishes, Raquel, Tommy & Ketut.

What an amazing experience it was to stay at the Eco Villa! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Georgia, Gule, Ketut, Tommy, Kristen, Made, I feel like I have made life long friends ;o) If you're looking to experience what Bali is really like, STAY HERE! This is a true villa in the heart of a true Balinese village. The location is perfect! Just minutes by scooter from anything you want to do in Bali. Simple, clean rooms with no distractions and none of the crowds or hectic feelings of a resort area. The warung across the street is delicious, go see Made and enjoy some Mie Goreng Ayam ;o) Hire a scooter and just go explore Bali. Everything you need or want is just a short ride away. The beaches are beautiful and the surf is unbelievable. I will definitely be coming back to Bali and I would stay here again without hesitation. Have an open mind, this is not a resort, you will live as the Balinese live their daily lives. Immerse yourself in the simplicity of life in Bali. If you visit Bali and only stay in some resort in a tourist area, you will miss everything you are looking for. The beds are comfy here, there is a kitchen for cooking meals, refrigerator, clean showers and bathrooms, everything is maintained daily by Ketut ;o) There are tomatoes and chilis growing in the garden with many other vegetables just planted when I was there. Super relaxed vibe and energy at the villa, perfect for a true get away from it all holiday. I am already looking forward to returning ;o)
This is the perfect place for a genuine Balinese cultural experience. This was honestly my best holiday ever. Where to start…
Raquel is an amazing host who is committed to ensuring her guests have access to what Bali has to offer. She has many friends in the local community who will take you to areas of cultural interest, and let you know of upcoming local events. Her Balinese partner Tommy took us to his local village where there were festivals and ceremonies featuring traditional Balinese gamelan music. I’m a music lover and without this local connection there is no way I would have been able to see an authentic Balinese music performance without a tourist slant. Raquel also organised a friend to take us for a day trip to Mt Batur, Ubud, the rice fields and coffee plantations (for an extremely reasonable price).
The village is refreshingly detached from the tourist strip (I think we were the only Westerners in the village). As a cultural exchange it was perfect. The locals are very welcoming and they actively invite you to participate in local happenings. The man across the street sought me out to show me a music rehearsal he thought I would enjoy; a gamelan music group invited me on stage to rehearse with them, and a local priest invited me to witness a Hindu offering. This all happened 5 minutes from Raquel’s house.
The house is a short drive from a number of beautiful beaches both secret beaches and surfing hotspots. Raquel can organise scooter hire, which was scary at first but I quickly came to love (website hidden) was great fun exploring the local streets and laneways through the village. There are plenty of quiet and peaceful backroads to practice on for novices like me (and the locals don’t get impatient when you drive slowly). Staying at the house also sparked an interest in permaculture, which I hadn’t been exposed to before, as was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did. Raquel has a permaculture set up on the property where she showed me some eco-friendly practices I can apply back home. She also took me to see a similar farm in the ricefields just outside of Ubud.
I can’t speak highly enough of this place. Raquel is a committed, pleasant and fun host. The house is also a place where you can also just relax and wind down. The rooms and common areas are comfortable, and there is an awesome local food outlet just outside the front door. I will definitely return to stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Balinese culture in addition to the beautiful beaches. I wouldn’t have had the same exposure to Balinese life if I had stayed elsewhere and I am very grateful.
It was awesome! I'm so happy that Raquel and Tommy accepted my last minute request. It felt like home and right place to be from the start...very calm and fresh (can't find better word to describe sounds, smells and ambience of Eco Villa). Actual room was simple yet had everything I needed, including biiig&comfortable new bed:)
As I wasn't yet riding a scooter so Raquel took me around on her bike to make sure that my short stay is very rich in events:) While Tommy showed me how to plant mint (it is very young farm and there is a lot of planting happening around and luckily Raquel and Tommy allow their guests to be part of it and contribute). All the guests I've met were very nice and had their own story, I guess Raquel attracts warm people:)
I'm definitely coming back if Raquel and Tommy have me. Thank you, my friends! It was very refreshing and I've learned a lot...how to be mindful and take care of what is around you...
